Timothy McVeigh

I guess you just had to be there (OKC).
I was. Not as a victim, but to help after. I won't get into the idea of how McVeigh thought such an act would even a score, but if you could smell that carnage you might rethink compassion for him. I guarantee you, he had absolutely none.

A few things if I may....

1) There is no legitimate research that the Death Penalty is a deterrent.

Personally I could care if it's a deterrent or not. What it does is remove a threat to society, permanently. Once the killer is a dead piece of meat, no more worries about them repeating a crime, ever.

2) It is significantly more costly to execute someone than it is to put them up for the rest of their lives.

I've heard this argument over and over in almost every death penalty debate I've ever been privy too. Care to sight a reliable source on this? Or is it one of those,"I heard it from a friend who heard it from his cousin's, sister's, uncle twice removed on his mothers side"?

3)I'm sorry, but I cannot support state sanctioned killing in any capacity and in due time I think it will be looked upon as a shameful practice.

As for your opinion here, I can respect it, but I don't agree with it.

As for McVeigh being a martyr if we execute him, he will be one to the lunatic fringe whether we kill him or not. Those who agree with his actions see those actions as just and right. So it matters not a whit whether he is sitting in a jail cell or is cold in a grave. He will be their hero. The sooner we get rid of him, the sooner his memory will start to fade, reducing his impact on the imagination of his supporters.

That's My Point...

Did you smell the Carnage in Waco? See the film Rules of Engagement...Have you ever seen the Mile of Death outside of Kuwaite City? Senseless slaughter upon senseless slaughterers...When will we begin to be good human beings again?...I've been reading about billions of tax dollars being allocated by the Bush administration abroad, and still we have a homeless problem, drug slayings everywhere...If we can't take care of ourselves, why should we foot the bill for the rest of the world?

The mathematics behind this statement and proof for it is based upon the appeals process that can take as much as 20 years in some cases. The cost of appeal upon appeal is what makes the death penalty so costly, not the actualy injection, electricution, hanging, and/or bullet.
