Time Waits for No One: Closer Than Family(Closed for The_Gladiator)

April's grin widened a little, though the fact that he was keping his distance frustrated her. "Sounds like a good time. I bet with someone else there, it could turn into something special," she murmured to him, trailing her hand down his arm.

Roxanne smiled. "No need to thank me...I plan on repaying the favor to her when it's my turn for all of this," she teased with a laugh, her eyes dancing with merriment. "I think mom would be up for another dance...she was working on some champagne last time I saw her," she told him with another laugh, then rolled her eyes at something over her father's shoulders. "Can't say I didn't warn him," she said softly, seeing April dancing with Mark.

"I didn't say I'd be alone, did I?" Mark said to april not moving his hand from her waist to remove her hand from his arm, pretending not to notice. "I do have a girlfriend afterall." he added.

Her father looked over his shoulder, "She seems quite taken with him, such a nice young man. "You know, Kyle mentioned wanting a dance with you too." he said changing the subject, "Yes don't remind me I'll have to pay for your wedding as well." Her father said poking her in the ribs.

"Of course you do. It's a pity though...I bet you and I could have some fun," she told him, her hand continuing to move down his arm. "I've got a room at the hotel next door...no need to drive, so we can get as drunk as we want," she added invitingly as her hand reached the one he had on her waist, starting to slide it down lower.

Roxy was distracted as she watched Mark and April, barely hearing her father. "Hmm? Of course...I'll find him in a little bit," she told her father laughing as she turned her eyes back on him. "I promise it won't hurt your pocket too much...you know I'm not one for a big celebration," she told him with a smile, knowing that when her wedding day happened she wanted it to be a low-key as possible.

"I'm sorry but no, I'm spoken for tonight." Mark said taking april's other hand as the song ended and a fast song started so that he had an excuse to stop her efforts.

"You say that now, but when it finally comes around you'll change your mind." Her father said as the song ended, "I love you sweety. Now you go over there and see your grandmother before She has my hide." he said, "And I'll go see if your mother can still cut a rug like she used to." he said as the faster song started.

April's face fell into a small frown at the rejection, positively stumped. No one had ever said no to her before and she found it quite infuriating. "Well, then...I'll give you my room number for if you change you mind and want to have some real fun," she told him, pulling her hands from him and patting his cheek a little. "Thanks for the dance...I'll be around," she told him with a determined look, before sauntering off to find another partner.

Roxy smiled as the song ended, leaning up to kiss her father's cheek. "I love you too, Daddy....go have fun with Mom," she told him, giving his hand a squeeze before she went off in search of her grandmother. She finally found the elderly woman at a table with a few of her other cousins, taking the time to sit and talk with her for a bit as well as relaxing her feet.

Mark kind of felt bad at rejecting her and caught her sleave, "I'm sorry. I guess I wasn't the nicest, we could get a drink, as friends?" he said cursing himself for being friendly and not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings.

"Roxanne my dear, its good to see you!" her grandmother said grabbing her in a hug, as if she hadn't seen her granddaughter in years. "Where's that hansom fellow?" she asked lowering her voice, not much which is to say it was still rather loud.

April's lips curved into a tiny smirk as she turned her head to look back at Mark. "As friends...of course. That would be nice," she told him, taking his arm to walk with him to the bar that was set up across the room.

Roxy laughed softly, hugging her grandmother back. If there was someone she loved more than life itself, it was her grandmother. "It's good to see you too, Gran," she told her with a smile, even though they'd seen each other the night before at the rehearsal dinner. "Who...Mark? I think he's off somewhere possibly being mauled by April," she answered with a wink, knowing that her grandmother was one of the most good-natured people there was.

Mark nodded and lead her to the bar, "Jack and coke." he told the bar tender,"
"And for you Miss?" he asked April.

"Mauled... now there's a thought." her grandmother said, "If I was into women, that April seems pretty enough... Does Mark deserve congradulations or condolences?" she said laughing pulling Roxanne to sit beside her.

April smiled. "I'll have the same, please," she told the bartender, then turned to look at Mark as their drinks were being made. "So...I have to say that I'm surprised your girlfriend let you come here without her. Isn't she worried that you might not go home alone?" she asked, then raised an eyebrow. "Or do you already have someone in mind?" she asked, remembering his earlier words.

Roxanne couldn't help but laugh, leaning over to kiss her grandmother's cheek. "You're one of a kind, Gran," she told her, giving her hand a squeeze. "And I'm quite sure Mark deserves condolences. You know how he hates being pawed at," she teased with a grin, grabbing a flute of champagne to take a sip. "All he wants is to eat, drink, and sleep...he's not really up to dealing with someone like April tonight."

"I didn't say that, did I?" he said, he said to her question whether he had someone in mind, "Why do you ask? I didn't exactly give my girlfriend a whole lot of choice in the matter and we had it out a couple of times about it. She's worried I will sleep with Roxanne." here he scoughed but smiled.

"Well you really can't blame her for wanting to paw at him can you?" her grandmother said laughing, "Watch it child, one who is in the mood to eat drink and sleep can usually fit that fourth activity in." she said with a laugh, "And don't you blush like that, you know what I'm talking about. That boy screams of wanting woopy." she said, "Oh you think I don't see it, "No gran you're too old." I see it." she said enjoying just a little bit making her grand daughter just a little uncomfortable.

"I recall you saying you were spoken for tonight. My fault for assuming it was someone other than your girlfriend," she said, picking up the drink that was set before her. She took a sip, raising a brow when he told her about his girlfriend's worries. "Can't say I blame her. You and Roxy are inseperable," she told him, remembering all the times she'd seen them together plus the stories she'd heard from Lena. "I'm surprised there's never been anything between you two."

Roxanne couldn't help but blush. "God, Gran...now I remember why I was always so afraid of you when I was younger. You see and know everything," she told her with a laugh, knowing it wasn't far from the truth. "And even if he was looking for that, not that I'm going to admit or deny it, April's all wrong for him," she added, taking another gulp of champagne. "But yes...I can't blame her for wanting to paw at him," she admitted under her breath, blushing some more.

"No we've never done anything together, she's my best friend, Imean I love her, but, I don't know I just feel, well anyway." Mark shrugged it off blushing, That subject with roxy wasn't his favorite. "How about you? Who do you plan on going home with?" he asked curious if she didn't get him who she would try.

"Then maybe you better snap him up and take him to your bed then?" Her grandmother said, "I keep asking you when's your wedding, its survival of the fittest, if she paws him faster than you, you might lose out." she patted her arm, "Oh don't blush, I'm sorry did I bother you? He's not gay or something is he?" she asked kind of out of the blue.

"My apologies again. If that's the case, then your girlfriend shouldn't be worried," she told him, though she knew it was a bit of a lie. She heard him ask about who she was going home with, a smirk coming to her face as she surveyed the room over the rim of her glass. "Mmm...whatever guy, or guys, I can manage, of course."

Roxanne's mouth dropped, speechless by her grandmother's statments. "You know it's not like that with us, Gran," she mumbled as she blushed, though she knew some of her family members had been placing bets on the two of them since they were in their teens. "And even if it was like that, which it's not...he has a girlfriend," she told her, suddenly feeling as if the room was twenty degrees warmer. "Don't worry...you didn't bother me," she told her with a reassuring smile, giving her hand a squeeze. "And no...he's not gay," she added with a small laugh.

"Oh." Mark said blushing a little, "Aren't too selective are you?" he said trying not to make it sound too scathing.

"Not like there's anything wrong with being gay. You know the man who cuts my hair is gay, nicest man I've ever met." her grandmother rambled on smiling at her blushing grand daughter.

April laughed. "Oh, I'm selective...I just don't limit myself," she told him as she saw him blush, taking another sip. "I've gotta say....that girl of yours is lucky. Not many stay faithful after a few drinks at one of these things."

Roxy smiled. "And he does a wonderful job," she said truthfully, admiring her grandmother's hair. "I may just have to get his number from you...next time I feel like being tugged and prodded," she added, her head still aching from all the pins in her hair.

he shrugged, "Who knows what will happen." he said non-committally not really sure what to say.

"You do clean up well my dear. Should I let you go rescue poor Mark?" her grandmother said, just as the bride and Groom arrived to see her grandmother smiling in their happiness. Both greeted Roxy Kyle expressing that she still owed him a dance which he said with a teasing smile.

April only raised a brow at the statement. "Well...I should make the rounds...there are a few of Kyle's cousins that I haven't met yet," she said with a grin, finishing the rest of her drink as she saw Roxy approaching. "See you around," she told him, leaning up to kiss his cheek before she walked off.

Roxy's eyes fell on Mark and April at the bar, nodding a little when she heard her grandmother. "I'll be sure to see you before you leave," she told the woman, kissing her cheek and giving her a hug. "And you'll get you dance soon," she told her new brother-in-law as she stood, smiling as she gave both him and Lena hugs. She started to make her way to the bar, stiffening a little when she saw April kiss Mark's cheek. "Wow...you're in one piece," she joked when she got to the bar, ordering a beer before she turned to look at him.

"Yes one very hard piece." he said with a straight face, before he lost it and laughed, pretending to shudder as she left, "That woman breaths something and its not sentuality, creepiness? like a predator looking for dinner." Mark said as he tossed back the jack and coke ordering a screw driver, "Yes I know, he who mixes his licker gets sicker." he said laughing at Roxy.

Roxy patted his back as if consoling him, though she was laughing a bit. "You're one of the lucky few, my friend," she told him with a laugh, taking a swig of her beer. "Not many manage to get away without some damage done to them," she said, remembering the majority of stories she'd overheard throughout highschool. "And if you get sick all over my bathroom you're not only cleaning it up, you're definitely on the couch. I don't need to smell it on you while I'm trying to sleep," she warned teasingly.

He laughed, "Oh come on, I'll be fine, that bed's big enough you could let an army sleep there and you'd never notice." he saidrubbing against her hand on his back, "Mmm scratch right there..." he said almost purring like a cat when she complied.

She rolled her eyes, but did what he asked. "Oh...I should warn you. Gran is extra fiesty today. I believe she mentioned something about wanting to paw at you, so I'd only be around her if other people were close by," she told him, scratching his back a little more. "Ok...my turn. Can you get out any pins you see on top?" she asked as she tilted her head down a little, knowing that he'd be able to see the top of her head better than her just feeling around.

He moaned happily agt her scratching, "You sure know how to please." he said with a small smirk as he began to depin her hair, "Sure I can help you," he said, "For a price." he teased.

She couldn't help the small moan of relief as he started to take out the pins, her head already feeling so much better. "What more could you possibly want? You're already sleeping in my bed and most likely eating my food in the morning," she teased, though she wondered what exactly his price was.

"Another dance of course." he said with a smile, "Anything to make that April jealous." he said without hesitation.

She raised an eyebrow, her hands going up to take out the pins that were at the back of her head. "I feel as if there should be a catch, but I'll be daring. Another dance it is," she told him as she ran her fingers through the hair that had already been rescued.
