I was told after baby number two (number 1 was a csection) to do kegels religiously and i did. I went to the doctor and told them there was a slight leak...ignored...went back again and told them it was worse...ignored. Sneezed and knew my bladder fell out one day and still they had to run tests before surgery. When they went in my bladder was stuck in my pubic bone and attached to nothing. I then asked the doc why the kegels didnt help and he said kegels dont fix anything and all that had to do with my genetic makeup. I still do kegels but dont think they really help avoiding any physical problems.Hence I didn't make a blanket statement and say it was the magic cure, only that is can and could help prevent such things thinking people would understand that didn't mean it saved everyone. One of my friends had 4 children and had prolapse and she too had been given the exercises and not had it work. They said part of the problem was the huge weight she had gained on top of already being a big girl.
The incontinence thing is often about having a small leak when you sneeze, cough etc. For that, kegels seems to be one of the preferred treatments before considering surgery or resigning themselves to a worsening condition.
