Just thought someone might enjoy a space where we could discuss ideas which explore the joys and tribulations of poly relationships.

What makes then different from "conventional" relationships?

what makes stories about them different?
what specific story ideas do you imagine?

I've a story already on the list about a young man being invited into a preexisting FMF poly relationship. A married MF couple have a poly lover (F) but aside from sex she has her own room and doesn't share a bed with the couple. She's a little unhappy with it as the man seldom spends the night with her. She feels like a guest who gets fucked so she insists on adding her own man to the family.

Cue our MMC who has returned to a job after being laid off, now single, and is reunited with the two MFCs on the job. It's not long before the woman chooses him as her lover and needing a place, the man moves in.

But the presence of a virile young man (28) in this 40+ family causes issues from the get go when both women are sexually drawn to the young man and the older fella is feeling a bit cuckolded in his own home.

what makes stories about them different?

Lots of positive emotions. Everybody is into everybody else; nobody is jealous (or if they are, a single conversation fixes it); protagonist gets to explore a wide variety of sexual tastes and then sit back and watch when he's personally worn out or needs to recover.

What makes then different from "conventional" relationships?

In real life?
1) Dealing with the emotions of two people you care about, both of whom want your time and energy.
2) Scheduling romantic moments like they were doctor appointments.

Threesomes sound like they might be fun for special occasions, but other than that, I agree with @usable001 . Having one spouse to try to keep happy is more than enough trouble.

There's an episode of Schitt's Creek where David sleeps with a guy after a party, then finds out he slept with Stevie, and the guy thinks they're a throuple after that, but neither David nor Stevie is interested.

Maybe do a fanfic story where they're eager to be in a throuple.
