I lived there when I was four. I remember the swamps and the cypress the most. There was a trail behind our apartment building that we'd go down and play on with the older kids. My mother used to freak out.

Anyway.

I forgot the name of the city that I used to live in and my mother doesn't remember either. I'm writing an article.

I think it's near New Orleans. It was one syllable. I'll know it if I see it and so far, the map hasn't helped. Of course, it's hard to read, too.

Um. Help?

I have no idea, but I am interested in why your mother freaked out at you playing near the swamp. Were there alligators and big snakes?

Also, that's kind of wierd that she doesn't remember the city you lived in.

My mother is a nutjob. She was terrified that the cajuns would kidnap us.

Like that'd happen.

Ty, I can read the word Louisiana. I've been roving all over randmcnally.

I figured you could find the city on the map...guess i was wrong.

KM

could it be Chalmette? Or Gretea? Those are the only two small towns I see anywhere near New Orleans on any map that I've looked at.

Tyrael.. that map that you linked is so small I couldn't read it.

Ask Ginny!

UncleJ too but I'm not sure he lives there tho.

Freaky ..doesn't your image veiwer have a magnification option?

KM Maybe it's not on the map. I don't see any one syllable town names near new orleans

Checking by area code, these are the cities the local telephone company list as being in the surrounding area of New Orleans. Anything that doesn't have a Post Office isin't gonna be here though.

Hammond, Slidell, Covington, Amite, Kentwood, area SW of New Orleans, Houma, Thibodaux, Morgan City

It was probably just pronounced as a one-syllable word. It could actually have had five or six syllables.

The great mystery is solved....they'll be talking bout this one for...many moments hereafter.

:)
