leslie van houten, 69, and still in jail for her part in the manson murders is going before a parole board next week seeking freedom.

what do we think, folks? let her out or let her rot?

She was sentenced to death and now she may be set free?

I think she will be staying where she's at for a while longer.

This is all a matter of what is California's legal standard for parole release. I have no familiarity with California law, but, if the law states that the punitive aspect of the sentence has be exhausted at the time of eligibility and none of the current evidence indicates that she is likely to commit another crime, she should be released.

There is a reason that crime victims don't have authority over parole release.

Justice must be dispassionate or it isn't justice. It's revenge masquerading as justice.

Leslie, she was the one who stabbed that poor woman Rosemary LaBianca, in the back, spinal cord area, while she was dying after knife blows by that ruthless bitch, Patricia Krenwinkle. She was old enough to know better.

Nah, she can stay where she is at.

That all came back to me when I heard about the Sebring Florida bank shooting this week. One of the Manson family's victims had the name Jay Sebring.

If parole release decisions were left up to society, no one would be released and you'd pay more to keep people incarcerated then to fund the Pentagon.

If punishment were left up to Society, parole for this woman would not be an issue. She would have been put to death decades ago.

Almost everybody voted to boot Rose Bird off the State Supreme Court.

I am aware, I'm just trying to provoke people to think past revenge and look at the societal problem while considering how they want their tax money spent.

Eliminating heinous criminals is one good way. And, if she had been put to death fifty years ago, we would have saved money.

The justice system also includes an appeal process which you probably don't agree with which can go on for years and cost a lot of money.

“Squeaky” is an awesome nickname that really ought to be taken away from her and given to someone else who can actually rock it right. :D

director john waters has been campaigning for the last 20 or so years to get her released. he claims that she's rehabilitated and a different person. of course, he also thought the manson family was cool and funny because they were the anti-hippies. i think she and mark david chapman need to stay in prison until they're carried out feet first.

I hear what LincolnDuncan is saying, but actual brutal murderers like Van Houten should never be released. I feel the same way about Sirhan Sirhan.

I have no problem with that. I'm not taking any position on the death penalty here. If society thinks that the death penalty should be the law of the land, I'm o.k with that. My problem with this is the same as my problem with most things which is the abuse of power.

If the law in California states that she should be released at the completion of a portion of her sentence if she is mentally stable, good inmate and has a supportive parole plan, then she should be released. If she's been tearing the place up, shows not even an act of remorse, then she should stay in jail. If she's not a danger to society our revenge is costing us a lot of money.
