This time next week...

It will be the last minutes of Christmas Eve and Father Christmas will be on his way! :nana:

Sorry, I get rather excitable at this time of year. :D

This time next week I'll be sorting out the girls pressies and bracing myself to enter their rooms with their stockings, and praying neither of them wake up.

What will you be doing?

I'll be at midnight mass at a local church.

It will be strange, just me, no last minute panicking to wrap presents, fill stockings. Very strange.

Wierd indeed, but no different than thousands of other single people. It'll just take some getting used to.

I have a close friend - also single - coming to share lunch with me, but apart from that, my time is my own.

Weather permitting I hope to spend a lot of time walking along the seafront, catching up with reading, chilling out, relaxing.

I'm actually looking forward to it. :D

Good! That is the most important thing.

Glad you'll be sharing lunch with someone.

It's also nice to be on your own - crazy families.

Family events in the Midwest, where it will be coooold. We open presents on Christmas Eve, so we'll all be picking bits of wrapping and ribbons out of our wine at midnight. My thinned-out California blood will be frozen, so I suspect I'll be wrapped up in sweaters and wool socks, and dad will have turned the heat up to 1,000 to accommodate me, and I'll still be cold. Good times.

I've finally reconciled with my family after about 9 years of no family holidays. I've gotten so used to spending Xmas day doing what I want, with no family demands, that I actually like it that way. Visiting at Thanksgiving was great, but I'm spending Xmas right here, doing my own thing.

I'll be at my parents. Probably asleep.

The big day is Christmas at my brothers. I figure about 20 adults and about 10 house apes will be there. It will be a good time.

Well, I actually braved the crowds and took my girls Christmas shopping this afternoon. I expected it to be really busy, and it was relatively quiet! We had a great time, buying gifts for their cousins and so on, now we just have to wrap them. :)

I finally found 'the gift' for my eldest, I couldn't believe how perfect. Years ago, he made for himself and me, a very detailed model of an old sailing ship, complete with rigging, sails, the lot. Unfortunately it got broken beyond repair in the housemove.

I have wanted to make it up to him, and today, in a little backstreet shop, found the most wonderful photograph of The Endeavour, taken last year off the South Coast by a very old established photography company who specialise in sailing pictures.

It was the best and safest way I could think of replacing his ship, with something that will not be so fragile. Its magnificently framed and will look wonderful in his study.

Ya think ???

Mat (feeling very pleased and happy with that shopping trip)

Yep, I think that's the perfect gift. :)

I found a great one for my Dad today. He's always loved fruit machines and one-arm bandits and has wanted one for as long as I can remember. I can't afford a full size one, but I did find a little version today. He can even play blackjack on it. LOL. I do like buying novelty gifts. :D
