This & That 2

Since you like thing that twist and turn, try "River World." My mind is a blank at the moment on the author. Joseph Farmer, I think.

Philip Jose Farmer. Yeah, Riverworld was an interesting concept. Too bad they keep making terrible TV movies out of it.

Thank you. I could remember the Farmer but not the exact first names.

Yeah, they've tried it twice and screwed both of them up.

Thank you!

Your welcome. Sounds like you have an impressive library already. Some great books out there. I am hoping to get back into Phillip K. Dick's books. They are familiar from all the movies they inspired, but I like how he plays with perception and reality.

My library is decent cuz of people like you who make recommendations.

I just 'discovered' John O'Hara. He wrote some decent erotica. Its not what youll find at LIT but its good. In one story a girl lures an old man into her bedroom where she's naked, then chases him out after he see's her nubile charms; in another story a teen lets his imagination run wild about his girlfriend then hears her on the phone with her married cop lover, and Ma travels to New York from Pennsylvania to Christmas shop and spend some quality time with strange men. Just started reading BUTTERFIELD 8.

BUTTERFIELD 8 is a good read so far. O'Hara's known as the best writer no one ever read. And he is good.

Read another short story, this one about a young woman who prefers older, married men. They exist. Married men are better then single men when youre not ready to settle down and let your ass inflate.

Read a Chester Himes shorty. I dont care for his short stories though they contain some excellent writing, he simply cant make a story with 1000 words.

The Worlds Great Questions:

I always wonder why a woman has a man unfasten/fasten her bra when theyre so simple to put on fastening/unfastening sliding to the front.

My dog died this morning, about 90 minutes ago. Gotta bury her after the Sun comes up. A sunny spot in the garden where she liked to sleep. Its the perfect place. No?

She didnt suffer. She died on the bed where she was born.

Sorry to hear that. My condolences. Pets are sometimes more and better family, than family.

My condolences, JBJ. :rose:

Yes - it is the perfect spot in your garden as she will be resting in her favorite spot.

(I'm glad she didn't suffer!)

Thanks. She had a good life, cant imagine it being better.

Got Max (Maxine) buried. Wrapped her in her blankie, and sealed her inside 2 stout garbage bags. Set 8 stumble-stones atop her grave and planted a Calla Lily.

My daughter says it was a stroke that killed her.

Read some unpublished George V. Higgins short stories this afternoon. Theyre okay but not great. Somewhere along the way he got the idea to toss the narrative and go with robust dialogue.

JBJ, I am truly sorry to hear that your dog passed away.

To answer your question about bras, it's a turn on for a partner to take off a woman's underthings, and the bra's just for starters... :)

****

I, Robot by Isaac Asimov was really good. (The movie was certainly different)

Did you ever read The Hitchiker's Guide to The Galaxy by Douglas Adams? The books are much better than the movie.

Thank you, dear. She was special.

Deeply regret to hear of your loss.

I prefer narrative to carry me where dialogue would bog down conveying the story, but nothing lets you share in a characters' experience quite like the interplay of dialogue.

Thanks.

What Higgins did was use dialogue as narrative. None of his characters are laconic.

I was thinking it was a polite invite.

Some women like to play on the idea that having us do "little things" for them brings us closer.

The family dog we had when i was growing up lived for seventeen years. I was a month shy of joining the Army when he died. My mother called my work to tell me. I always thought she couldn't stand the little guy (he was a long-haired red dachshund), but she was crying on the phone. She couldn't take care of his remains, so she left it for me when i got home. He died of a stroke but had apparently bitten through his tongue in the process and there was a fair amount of blood. Not the prettiest sight. Still, he'd had a good life.

So sorry to hear about your dog dying. It's amazing how these little creatures can wrap themselves around our hearts. :rose:
