I have just been notified that my story "A Christmas Future" has been rejected on the following grounds:-

It is satirical, humourous erotica (I think) and features Prince Charles, Nelson Mandela, and Bill Clinton, plus plays on other lesser known names but relevant to Clinton's era in completely fantasy and unlikely situations.

What relevance has it to modern day politics? None whatsoever!

This seems like a lot of bullshit, but that's what you get, posting on a privately owned site. They can allow or reject anything they want.

Still, seems like a very stupid reason to reject a story. People who don't want political stuff will simply not read your story. Not to mention that satire and parody are not really political

I have a feeling that your story may have been rejected by a bot that searched for the name "Clinton". You may try to contact website's admins (Laurel), explaining it was not the modern rage-of-the-day Clinton. Maybe that helps.

This is a stupid rule. Was a vote held or do the admins have their panties in a bunch? Under the guise of "feedback" they are taking away a creative outlet. I don't care what politics you have, you should be able to see opposing viewpoints without cowering in a corner. Honestly, this rule has absolutely no purpose.

Back in 2000 , after the elecgtion, the snowflakes went bat shit crazy over all humor relevant to the election. I got banned from a site for making a post about VOTAGRA, a new election marvel you coat your stylus with the make it hard and stiff to give you the penetration and full depth you wanted. I thought it was funny and the snowflakes leapt off the bridge. The site didn't survive the snowflake angst. It failed because these sites are entertainment, and people come for entertainment not to get right with Allah. You cant appease snowflakes, they'll return till LIT is a crypt for fun. But some other site will come along.

The real problem is that snowflake snits never stop. And snowflake toerance is all one way. Poking fun at our beloved leader is fine but oh my, the outrage if you poke at the shibboleths of the left. Only, you see Snowy, the right in the US is learning and responding using the lefts tactics.

And as LIT now seems to be noticing, it can get rather bitter. To my mind its a good policy if equally and fairly applied. So anything with the C word in it is probably very appropriatly flagged. That C word is very topical. Best not mention it.

I'm inclined to agree though, that this is all getting a bit much now, with the current political climate.

It's all a mess in which the media is holding the whip hand and making everything indistinguishable from the cheapest kinds of ideology on every 'side.'

Even I want to 'pivot' (chuckle) away from this subject. It's hard to do for those who just want to be 'topical' but at the same time, for creative people, frankly, surely 'politics' per se is the thing that is really getting stale.

I must admit I for one, have struggled to get away from the subject altogether, but I have a feeling I'm going to find it easier and easier to do.

Yeah yeah I get the point about writers requiring a free hand to create - maybe this is a challenge for you to find a way to 'nuance' the subject at little.

Depends if its a chat thread or a story tho. Snowy wrote a story with the C word in it and it seems like thst was why it was rejected. Good enough. I know I've strayed into political asides in some of my stories but that was a while ago. Fair enough editorial decision, I say, as long as its consistent and fair when it's applied to stories. Chat threads are a whole different issue.

The only disappointment for me is I've been working on a political erotica piece inspired by Carnal Flower's suggested challenge and it doesn't look like I'll be able to post it here now. Oh well.

Its Laurels site to do with as she pleases. Based on my experiences her goal is futile and defeats her in the end. I'm sympathetic because I wanna scream from all the political crap on tv. But that's where America is for now, its not what we like but it is what we want.

The reasoning is bullshit; just stick a content warning at the top if you really want to "protect" certain readers.

Here on the forum, it's perfectly ok to say some pretty abhorrent things, because "freedom of speech." Ok, fine, sure. Freedom of speech is valuable, I won't deny that. But then to turn around like that... I find it pretty off putting :/

Agreed, its a private site.

For the ten years I've been here Laurel championed free speech, then she trimmed. The AH usta be Dodge City with constant hostility. Its slowly changing to an old ladies tea social when never is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all day. Verily the snowflakes will go after real PC standards.
