...because I have become even more ocd about cleaning and minimising than before :(
I'm running out of stuff to do in my downtime.

On a plus note, most things smell cleaner/fresher.
Except my car..... still trying to get the smell out of the upholstery (I never stopped anyone else from smoking in my car, even tho I only did so occasionally.)

Can't call myself a non-smoker yet as I still have cravings. Once they subside, I will accept my new status :)

Now to stick to my NY resolution to quit eating panda meat! ;)

Hang tough. You can do it.
If you haven't totally kicked the habit, I suggest getting cigarettes that have no additives. I switched brands to the very pricy Natural American Spirit and, I believe, weaned myself off of the cravings. After that quitting was easy.
Don't know if I was just ready to quit, but that's what happened.

Thanx :)
Yeah, I tried several times in the last few years, but lapsed each time.
This time has been a lot easier for some reason - started slowing down in Oct last year (not as many, and the ones I did have I never finished...) but I still get the occasional full-on craving. I'm resisting though.
Finding I can't actually stand the smell of someone smoking near me has been a bit of a surprise!

I think you'll do it.
I'm six years in and will go days without thinking about smoking. Out of the blue, I guess it's about twice a month, I'll get just a bit of a craving, but it's over in less than a minute.
And I really, really feel much better.

Did you smoke all the way through your cancer treatments? Tsk tsk.

Though not at all surprising... I've seen cancer patients outside the hospital smoking through their tracheostomy.

I never even think about it since I stopped until someone has just had one and I think "God, did I actually smell THAT bad too?" It's a dreadful habit in so many ways, stick with it WQ.

For the longest time after I quit, the smell didn't bother me. I don't mind that the car smells of smoke (my wife still smokes), but it does bother me slightly at other times.
I'm not going to turn into one of those reformed smoker assholes. I'm just happy I quit. Hell, I used to get winded getting in and out of the cart and walking to the ball on the golf course.

It will never happen. The Queen purchased a car for a very good price from a smoker. She replaced the headliner and the upholstery and carpet, yet every time I get in her car, no matter how many air fresheners and Febreze applied, you can still smell the smoke.

It's been 14 years since I quit. The first 3 days or so were the worst. I think if people try to quit they should do it cold turkey.

The cravings never really go away. I still think about having a puff from time to time. Thankfully, the last time I gave in to the urge, I felt nauseous and it tasted awful. Never again.

At the time I quit, cigs were going for about $3 a pack. Think of all the money you'll save and stick with it. Good luck.

A big bowl of white vinegar left in the car overnight will neutralize odours. Repeat if necessary.

Then shampoo all the upholstery and carpets. The Bissell Little Green Machine is perfect for that.

Put a couple of unscented Bounce dryer sheets under the seats for fresh-maintenance.

Don't forget the cabin filter.

What he said.

Thirteen months, now. Used the patch for about three months, in decreasing doses... I do the non-smoking thing a day at a time. It's a Journey..

I feel much better, as well.

I call bullshit.

The headliner is typically a cloth and being overhead absorbs lots of smoke.

I found staying off smokes easier than quitting. A year later pick them back up.

Cold turkey may be best way. Try to out stubborn yourself. Your not really stubborn if you can't quit.

Best of luck. One of the best things you can do for your pocketbook, health and hygiene(smell).

First time I quit I substituted the stimulant of nicotine with very strong black coffee. Was a milk and sugar person before.

I just can't seem to get that do you smoke after sex joke out of my head...:)

No, I quit when I got the dx for cancer...... but lapsed pretty much as soon as my radiation finished.
Quit again a few months later for another couple of months.
And again at the end of that year, and a few times since then.
Each time I have lapsed except this time. Coming up to 2 months now and holding.....
The difference this time I didn't tell anyone and I didn't make plans for a quit day - I just stopped.

- I just stopped.

That's what I did 30 yrs ago next year. Tossed a half pack I had left and said I'm done. Bummed a smoke about three weeks later and the taste made me immediately put it out. Have never smoked since. Cold turkey doesn't work for everyone, but it sure did for me. Now I can't stand to be in smokey rooms, and can smell a smoker a mile off.

Good luck with your effort to quit.

I went a year after both heart attacks before starting smoking again. Had it licked for 5 years until brother died of heart attack the started again. STUPID MF!

"Harold, that forum member warrior queen just posted another useless thread."

Who cares? I'm going to bed.

"Harold, did you purchase me a carton of Lucky Strikes like I asked you?"

Yeah, I left them on the kitchen table.

"You bastard. I have to get up from my chair."
