Personally I don't care, but considering the amount of "bad feedback what do I do" threads is seems to be an issue and maybe the site should be open to it.
The site has already addressed it. Years ago. Authors have the ability to block anonymous comments, and have had that ability for at least as long as I've been here.
Unlike so many other things, it's also straightforward. It's under the heading "options" on the member page, and thus something almost anyone would reasonably check out. The page is short, to the point, and well documented with discussions of the pros and cons.
You can also delete comments with impunity. You can disable public comments on a story-by-story basis.
Any Lit author upset by comments has a wide range of options to deal with it. That being said, I don't begrudge anyone coming here venting about negative comments, even if they choose not to utilize the available controls.
They just can't blame it on the site "not doing enough" and maintain even the slightest shred of credibility.
