Notice in the upper left hand corner - the circle - that is his shoe. This guy was hit from behind while sitting still at a stop light behind the white line.

So much for the argument that if you ride carefully you don't need protective gear. Notice that the guy is in t-shirt and shorts. Besides being hit by the car, flying over the car, when he hits the ground he is going to have some serious road rash.

Ouch. Just ouch all over the place.
Yeah - exactly. That is going to hurt in the morning. At first glance I thought it was faked then I saw the stuff in midair and the attitude of the car (with it's brake belatedly slammed on).

Would protective gear have kept his shoe on?
Protective gear includes riding boots which stay on. BTDT, have the scars to prove it.

First of all…ouch! Secondly, how do I paste a picture into a thread?

Gee I'm glad you posted that, makes me feel real safe. Good point though, so many drivers don't "see" motorcyclists.

While it is good advice (and common sense:rolleyes: ) to wear protective gear, I am against so-called "Helmet Laws." Let evolution take its course.

That's an incredible picture quite apart from the nasty subject. Getting hit from behind makes even the best protective gear useless.

i've been hit by cars while riding my bike six times in my life. worst thing that ever happened was a big bruise on my left shin when dodge ram knocked me over at an intersection. it also bent my bike up a little bit. not a single peice of protective equipment on my entire stupid body. what can i say, i like to press my luck.

Agreed. Unfortunately it is idiots like that who make data for the do-gooders who support helmet laws.

Wrong. LC has been hit from behind as have a number of friends of mine. Protective gear does help, it just isn't a panacea.

Don't worry, I wear so much gear I look like Gort.

I don't see any knee joints - how do you change gears or brake?

KindaKinky - first of all, you need a net address for the pic you want to post. Then you use the vB IMG code (remove the *):

[*img]Net address of your pic (including the http)[*/img]

Sorry for the hijack, Heretic - and I only hope the rider in that pic has:
  1. a quick and complete recovery
  2. a vindictive nature
  3. a good lawyer

Then that bonehead driver might just get what he deserves!

Full face helmet is much better.

leather jacket
It better have armor and padding or the leather will only protect you from road rash and not the impact. BTDT, have the scars and photos to prove it.

Take it from me, just plain jeans are little better than nothing.

and boots
Better be real riding boots, not hiking boots, logger's boots, cowboy boots, army boots or any other kind of boot not specifically made for protecting you in the event of a crash, as they are little good compared to a real riding boot. Any boot that you would wear off the bike probably isn't a real riding boot. BTDT, spent over $7000 to pay for the reconstructive surgery so I could walk again (and even then the surgeon wasn't sure), and I have the scars and limp to prove it.

Hmmm...

I've been looking a little more closely at the pic...

Heretic, is this an Australian pic? Because I think I recognise the buildings on the skyline(and they're a LOT closer to me than I'd like to think!) In addition, the car that's doing the damage looks like an Aussie Holden (can't remember the specific model :()

Not that I'm offended or anything - just wondering...

I'd say probably not Australia, judging by the "Controle Electronico" sign.

I don't think so. I know it isn't in the US. I can tell that much from the the signs which seem to be in Spanish or Italian. Look at the sign on the traffic light pole. Spain is well known to be the absolute worst place to ride a motorcycle - with regards to safety that is.
