This is to Lurkers who want to change thier status but are afraid

Hey mg5, i *like* the title. Is it new or have i been blind?

It's been there for about a month. The holidays are beginning to get to me, though, so i'll probably change it soon.

Yeh. Uh huh. A 13 month Lit Board resident lurker? You just like looking the newb's over as they come out from behind the curtains. Admit it.

mg5?
The holidays are getting to me, too.

Maybe, at least, you'll have more fun losing your virginity this time than you did the first time.

Oh, I had fun the first time. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I even had an audience... ;) I'm just hoping the second time will be fun, too.

Well, one things for sure the second time....

Like it or not you will most definitely have an audience. :D No unlurking, now, you have been called "quality" by cymbidia.

Wasn't Larabee that "other" agent who never seemed to get street duty on the Get Smart show?

All right, I admit it. I've been lurking for a while now. But not behind the curtains; its way too crowded back there and I couldn't see very well. I had my very own potted palm to hide behind.

OK, Desdemona

What was the palm drinking at the time it became potted? Was it something seasonal like hot buttered Rum or Schnapps, or is this one of those stuck in the mud palms that only drinks a shaken martini?

AHA! another shorty! I can tell. We *always* get stuck behind the tall people in a crowd and then can't see. Either the tall people or the ladies with big hair. Or those guys who never take thier hats off. ~grumblegrumble~ When i go to the movies, i look for kids to sit behind...

Ahem.
Welcome Desdemona.
Should we call you Dese? Mona? De?
Don't mind Siren; she'll shorten it to whatever she wants it to be. The rest of us though - mostly - will make some kinda effort to not offend you with the shortening of your nick.

And Lady, you'll definitely have an audience at this virginity-breaking, too - and a bigger badder mouthier audeience than you had the first time round. Bet on it.

hot buttered Rum
You're stuck on that recipe tonight, aren't you? Is it a fave of yours or can you jkust not get it out of your brain?

I changed my mind in the store and got brandy instead, and am mixing it with 7Up. I can't remember the last time i even tasted rum and if i'm going to feel not-so-good tomorrow, i want to enjoy it while i'm getting there - and i *like* brandy.

I fear my long-ago hard drinking self would scoff at the pitiful wimp i've become with regard to alcohol these days. And i live in the *heart* of CA's fabled wine country, too.

On the radio right now, something perfect from Dylan:
Ah but i was so much older then
I'm younger than that now.

Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Why, thank you!

Yes, I believe he was. But I was thinking of a different one, also on TV (and not all that long ago), either. :D

Here's to the ladies

Larabee's or otherwise.

Cym, it is as I said, a seasonal thing. Hot-buttered Rum is hugely under-rated, particularly when made with a spicy rum (Myers, etc.) It is about long nights, when something extra is good to interest the palate.

...and never you mind about your capacity to endure alcohol, what matters is that you learn how to enjoy the proper amount. Recuperative powers diminish with age, such is life. Now warm that brandy and enjoy it.

Thanks Cym

I didn't take the opportunity to show my gratitude for the de-lurking encouragement.

~prostrates himself and plants kiss on Cym's feet~

You are a darling, Cym.

OH!
I *like* feet kisses.
Getting and giving...
;)

It's all warmed up, Lukky; trust me. Definitely warm.
However much i like brandy, and its refined cousin - cognac, your hot buttered rum concoction sounds distinctly intriguing. I'll have to try to find a good one somewhere sometime soon. This is, after all, a decidedly wine-drinking area.

cym, some of the best wines in the world are made in your area, in my opinion. :) Maybe we should fit a wine tasting tour into our get-together?

Lukky, I never knew what actually went into hot-buttered rum. It sounds kind of watery - like tea. Is it actually drinkable?

A wine tasting tour would be fun, darlin'. I've got some good ones, too. Been taking visitors wine tasting for many years.
Sonoma Valley?
Dry Creek Valley?
Russian River area?
I'll go to the Napa Valley if you insist - it's two vallies to the east - but there are better wines and far more atmosphere to be had right here in Sonoma county. One really needn't travel all the way to snooty Napa for either of those things.

Ruby, here's one recipe, and it's a good one and easy to do because you can leave it alone for the longest part of the preparation.

And yes, it's very drinkable.

-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 pinch salt
3 sticks cinnamon
6 whole cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups rum
heavy cream -- whipped
ground nutmeg -- for topping

Put all ingredients, except rum and cream, and nutmeg into crockpot.
Add
2 quarts hot water. Stir well. Cover pot and cook on LOW for 5 hours.
Add
rum; stir to blend. Serve from pot in warm mugs with a scoop of whipped
cream and a dusting of nutmeg.

My World Wide Web bulletin board debut

I accept your invitation to dance in the spotlight, Cymbidia. I guess the first number is a conga to 9 more boards. Where would you like me to place my hands?

And i think there's a statute of limitations on lurking, anyway. [/B]

Limitations?? I thought you had to be 18 to be here...

oh ...

sorry that's statutory...

never mind :)

Good morning all! Thanks for the warm welcome.

Lukky, its way too hot here to drink anything without ice; or mabe its just me....hmmmm. Anyway, last night that naughty palm was imbibing homemade hurricane punch.

Hi Cym, at 5'6", I'm not really a shortie, I just had a crowd of big haired ladies wearing cheap perfume in my way. Besides that, they kept knocking my drink over with their Wall Mart shopping bags. Sweetie, you can call me Des or Mona, whichever makes you happy.

:)

I think 10 posts a day is too many for us new ones. Its too hard to do that. What about 5 a day? Honest. Coming here is a sort of scarey thing for me and i think many other people too. It looks fun but is hard to break in here. So, is 5 day for posts okay?

5 is fine

3 is fine. What it boils down to is participating, which must be done at a level you are comfortable in. Watching from the shadows you miss the best of the give and take.

Pick a name, it need not reflect anything but your desire for a bit of anonymity, nobody needs to know your email address - we just know it's better from the inside, and to know this you need to register and every so often you should give back just a little in the form of a post.

OK?

Not asking for your firstborn or your home phone number, just your participation.

OK, Unregistered lurker person

Did you take the plunge?

Consider that rhetorical, I don't need you to out yourself in this thread just to make cym feel good about starting it, the idea is to get you in here and adding now and then...

But ask yourself: did you act?

I'm Guilty

Been lurking for awhile now and finally registered about week ago. I am quite a shy person so i will stick to trying to post 1 a day instead of 10. Most of the time i like being a wallflower. :)
