Traditionally, the mid-terms mean that the sitting President's party loses many seats.

The Republican red wave was expected to be just that and wasn't. Even if they regain control it will be by a very small margin.

They should have done much better. Worse - the younger voters turned out in force and generally voted Democrat. As the older generation dies off, the die-hard Republican voters are eroding.

Portraying Joe Biden as an elderly incompetent didn't work. Attacking the Democrats for the ideas of weird left-wing extremists didn't work either. The weird right-wingers seemed to have shouted louder and were deterring people from voting Republican.

If the Republicans are to have a serious contender for the next Presidential election they need to rethink their strategy and policies and finally ditch Trump - two times sore loser and a malign influence.

I was reading the comments section under a Fox News thread this morning, it was full of new born not-trumpers.

Most of the messages on the most viewed right wing site were saying that Trump is damaged goods, he has too much baggage. DeSantis is the new GOP golden god.

I’m suspecting that Trump will not go quietly, and while DeSantis has a good amount of money behind him, Trump has been taking huge amounts of GOP donations for his own PAC.

It will be an interesting show.

if that means when desantis gets the nod to run, it could well mean the die-hard trumpies will not vote at all... some might even vote dem because sticking it to de santis over his 'betrayal' will mean more to them than sticking it to the libs. All good for dems.

There is a reason the usual suspects aren't flooding the board per usual. Of course, traitorous republicans retaking the House, and potentially the Senate, would still be consequential for a number of reasons. - No "Red Wave", but they can still do a lot of damage.

*nods*

So, a nigh-two-year grudge match between The Would-Be Prince of Floridor and The Lich King of MaraLaGo over who gets control of the orc armies of The Realm before The Next Battle begins now.

Winning the House is nice, assuming it does happen (I would guess there's maybe a 10 percent chance the Dems could still hang on). But the responsibility of running things without the votes to actually get anything done is going to drive them crazy.

The other problem they're going to have is that their majority is probably going to hinge on several freshmen in New York, who aren't going to be highly motivated to go along with stunts like impeaching everyone in the Biden administration.

Funny the board Trumpies here don't understand this...

You mean the Republicans might actually need to show leadership and offer up policy, not just point fingers and fear monger?????

LOL get your popcorn, Trump is not going to go quietly......

Republicans should be encouraging mail-in and early voting more.
Ivanka Trump recommended that on twitter.

That said, I don't think this can be characterized as a disaster for the Republicans--at least not yet and not probably. Chances are great they'll take the House and even that they'll take the Senate in the end. At most it's a reveal that just because they make a trend up and peddle it hard doesn't mean it's going to happen.

"This was the end of the Trump era and the dawn of the DeSantis era," a Republican operative close to the Trump orbit told ABC News. "Like every other Trump catastrophe, he did this to himself with stupid and reckless decisions."

The losses in Pennsylvania of Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz and gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano were particularly jarring for Trump. Sources tell ABC News he blamed his wife, Melania, for pressuring him to endorse Oz. He also blaming aides for leading him to endorse other failed candidates.

There are no Republicans posting right now.
They're busy processing and coming to grips with the reality that their establishing of an American White Nationalist Paternalistic Authoritarian Theocracy might be slightly delayed

I expect them to re-take congress, and I also expect them to fuck up their majority control big time.

i've not gone into it, yet, been busy canning tomatoes but: how did the parties do down ballot? not just governor, but secretary of state (who runs the elections), and other, lower positions that still have influence over health, education, policing in their respective states.

Yup, the GOP is fucked.

Hard to get excited for a bunch of do-nothing weenies.

The USA will thus be turned into a Democrat run shit hole like California, Chicago, Portland and NYC. Filled with homeless junkies, rampant crime and extreme wealth inequality.

Looks like? The issue is that he is an incompetent fool and always has been. He's a rotten businessman even. The Trumpers are idiots for not having seen that. He's just a good con man and Trumpers are dumb as a fence post.
Okaaaaaay........

If I was responsible for Democrat policy, I would distance myself from the extreme lefties, and put some of the Republican ideas on crime and immigration on the table just to watch the Republicans block those policies.

That's pretty much what the Biden administration has done, although the mostly centrist (and middle class-supporting) issues they've put on the table haven't been much in the way of Republican ideas because the current Republican ideas all center on the word "no."

Love anti-Americans and their bid to destroy the USA and persecute anyone who doesn't?

Your safe space can still get fucked, free speech is still a thing despite Democrats best efforts to subvert it.
