I didn't know there was such a thing. Third degree burns, sure. Getting the third degree, yep. Third degree murder, WTF?

All those degrees are just so the Lawyers no where to set their fees.

3rd degree is for child abuse murder.

The judge threw it out.

The motion was absurd because child abuse cant apply unless the killer is the childs custodian. That is, the killer must be responsible for the dead child. Zimmerman wasnt Trayvons legal custodian, or any custodian at all.

The motion was nutz.

Lately my threads have been attracting the worst of Lit. I apologize to anyone decent who may have wandered in.

I'm not, just asking a logical question. They might as well drop the entire penal code on the jury and say consider this shit too.

I think this has already been determined by legal minds much sharper than your own.

I'll be honest, I'd never even heard of "third degree murder" until today.

Our resident legal beagles have let me down.

Neither have I. What a strange charge. I always thought manslaughter was 3rd degree.

Same here. I suspect this 3rd degree child murder was a sop to the wingnuts who wanted to "protect babbies".

With 887 practicing attorneys on the General Board, you'd have thought ONE of them might have brought this up before now.

Florida...anything is possible

Know what freaks me out about Florida? The fact that when I look out the window every morning I'm not entirely sure of what I'm going to see. Might be just trees and grass, might be an alligator in the front yard, might be a giant snake, might be a bunch of frogs attached to the window, might be someone dressed as Mulan getting ready for work.
It's a very odd place.

I have given up on trying to understand court procedure. It all looks like Calvinball to me.
