Think about your avatar

What? You don't like my nails?

My dogs are barkin'- your sig line got my attention more than the av. I had a favorite teacher that used that phrase many many years ago. I haven't heard it since then I don't think! Thanks for bringing back a happy memory this morning. :rose:

As for my av, I keep it because I like it. I'll probably switch between Lady Liberty and the Cheyenne cars sales sign every now and then. I like that one, too, because friends thought of me when they stopped to take that pic in their RL.

If you want the naked pic av, you have to do a little work to go look at my profile. I figure by the time someone is looking up my profile to read, they are already interested in something about me. It isn't just the naked pic getting their attention. It's a kind of "weeding out" process, in other words.

Uhh...this isn't running for office or even going for a job interview. This is the fucking Litcom General Board. My avatar is my choice. Like it or not--I'm not here to make friends and influence votes.

The only thing I can see is that my palms are not quite as hairy as some of the lurkers behind the GB threshhold.

I put some thought into my Av. When I finally reached 100 posts, I wanted an appropriate AV. One that would match my name, my personality, and my posts. Finally I realized that only one would work for me.. one thats of me. So I cropped a photo I had scanned in a while ago, and.. ta da. Maybe I'll change it if I see something more fitting, but unless it's something that directly relates to myself, or is a drawing a made or a photo I took or something I created on my computer, I doubt I'll use it.

But that's just me. Other people's AVs don't really bother me. Althought I agree that when guys have women in their AVs or vice versa, it throws me for a loop. It's hard enought to tell who you're talking to on the net; I like to at least know the gender of who's posting.

It is really wrong to associate ones av to ones intelligence/sexuality. This ranks right up there with judging a members value to lend anything to a conversation by the size of their post count.

I change my avs frequently and they sometimes reflect my mood or are flippant/funny to give others a laugh. And recently I plucked up the courage to post an av of my boobies.
I will continue to change avs depending on my mood. :)
I turn off my avs during the time my kids are awake and in the house so I sometimes miss out on new av changes.

Judge me not by pixel pic but by my words posted.
:rose:

AV's are one form of communication, and as such they matter. They are not as important as the words, obviously, but they help set the tone.

For instance, I am incapable of seeing Soblue's AV without thinking about sex. Happens every time. That does not mean that I judge Soblue by her AV, or that I do not read her words, and think about what she is saying. But I do always stop my scroll when I see one of her posts, look at her AV, and go "wowza!"

And appreciate the communication... :D

Never, as to your original post, (because I haven't read the entire thread) Yes! Very well said! This is why my breast av (for the av contest) had to go after only 2 days, it just wasn't right to force that on anyone, and also, who could possibly take me seriously with my nipples in their face?

Excellent! :)

Well after reading and remembering intrigued's nipples I have lost all train of thought....Seriously I think we need more nipples....;)

Hmmmm now do my lips say I am joker, a smoker, a midnight toker???? :p

Bravo Never! I think this is a great thread! I've often thought the same things that you pointed out when I see an av. It definately plays an important role in how we "judge" someone. In Lit, an av makes the first impression. Once that's been made, there's no turning back. It's hard to take someone seriously when they have a goofy av. Likewise, if someone has an offensive av, I wouldn't be inclined to talk with him/her.

hmmmm...that's interesting Never never thought about that before. I would only load up a picture that I enjoy looking at but it does not necessarily portray who I am in any way.

By that criteria I'd only pay attention to 5 people. I'd miss out on some great comments and intellectual thoughts.

I'd never talk or pay attention to myself......holy moly!!

Only if they want me to be. ;)

I'm not adversed to putting on a catholic school girl outfit if he wants me to dress up innocently. Shoot, I'd even sprout the wings if I could.......What the heck are these two bumps growing out of the top of my head. :)

Hey, I bet if you were to put that picture up again no one would feel forced into viewing your breasts. I vote for a peek at that picture since I did not get the opportunity the first time. :)

This thread is really bizarre. How many threads have there been about not judging people by how they look. Race, Body shape, Cloths, Age etc. And now we have a thread promoting the choice of appropriate AVs to be accepted.

Get Real.

I change my AVs and my posts don't change. So I maybe I post a serious post on the GB and then a picture on the AP Board. One I might want an AV flipping you all off and there a picture of the stunt cock getting sucked off. But it cant happen. We cant change our cloths as we change our rolls. To satisfy the masses maybe we should have a AV with a picture of "Wonder Bread"

I admit it is mildly amusing to see someone post supporting Bush while claiming Clinton was the worst thing to ever happen to our country and their AV is a big ol' dick. But the chagrin is but momentary. Its the content that really counts.

From an old thread

Why I have an avatar

We’ve passed the age of synergy and entered the Age of "Niche", where you've got a massive, digitally expanded broadband marketplace and only seconds to capture consumer attention before they're off to the next channel, the next web site, the next On Demand Video. There's no value in being a content diversifier anymore. No more will you see networks providing everything, a little comedy here, a little news there, not in the age of specialized content providers like the Comedy Channel, the Church Channel, the SoapNet Channel, and the All Words Beginning With the Letter Q Channel, and when even established channels like TNT are narrowcasting themselves to become easy-to-chew things like "the channel that knows drama".

You can't just have a gimmick anymore, you've also gotta carve out a content-cubbyhole, something immediately definable that a genre savvy public can latch onto in an instant; you have to define yourself faster than DSL, and you have to do it with a single image. In a world of 2,000 channels, a little all-descriptive logo in the bottom left hand corner of the screen that gives a fast-clicking surfer pause is all that stands between your voice getting heard or lost.

But it’s got to be more than a logo. You have to encapsulate your entire mission statement into one single simple image that will generate instant "genre knowability". In the academic world you publish or perish, and in today's cyber townhall you either visually encapsulate or virtually evaporate.

Today a logo is more than branding, it's a neon shingle hung over a soapbox in a hangar-sized hall full of soapboxes. This is not a sell-out to the short attention span theatre that we call the Broadband Marketplace of Ideas -- it's just good common sense.

I have been told (in rl) that I have my head in the clouds and that I have an "artistic, sensual nature"
I chose this av to reflect those words and I have used it longer than any other.

Honestly, I associate all of your avatars with you, when you change them it confuses me  :D I look at your names and get a mental image of the av you used when I 'met' you. Does this make sense at all?????

Not me, I'm the t-shirt and shorts type ;)

I bet you change t-shirts. If not, it must need a wash and I'll have to pour my pitcher of ice water on you. :)
