Things to say during sex

So far I've got five sex scenes in the draft of my series, and I'm trying to make them as different and in-character as possible. This thread helped me a lot with introducing variety into the narration, but what about the actual words that characters say during sex? There's only so many times I can use ohh, ahh, oh my god, oh jesus. I also tend to stay away from things like "fuck me" or "suck it" when characters are already performing said actions, because, well, looks a bit silly in paper.

I was thinking the same thing.

What gets said depends on the woman and the circumstances of the liaison. Some of the married ones like to talk about cucking their husbands or their illicit pregnancies, or how they like the feelings of wildness affairs bring. Some bring up things they wanna try. I recall a teacher who wanted me to procure a prostitute she could use with me. Another one talked about a preachers wife she seduced, and how she wanted to pull a train.

The part that I highlighted is not true.

Think about it; you're fucking you're in the throes of passion. people say silly things. A woman will say, "Oh, yes lick it" when the guy is going down. you can add to it with "Oh, yeah lick it, just like that, baby, just like that" but things like that are not silly.

I take it you don't want your scenes to sound like a porn flick. That's a good thing.(for my tastes.) Not a lot of conversation goes on in my own experiences. A few grunts, sighs, gasps, occasionally a giggle, but then you just have to concentrated. And when it's going right, words just don't form for either participant. But this is fiction. Some readers want reality and some complete fantasy. Write whatever works for you and your characters.


The conversation would probably depend on the characters. Shy, insecure, flirty, funny, dominating, or just plain out there.

If the man's nice, he can ask, “You okay?” “Am I too massive for you? I've never measured it, but the nuns used to call me Trigger.”

You can make an amazing scene without words. Eye contact, teeth digging into to his shoulder. Hot breath in her ear. The chain reaction of goosebumps. Words aren't always necessary to make the scene steam up.

There can be some interesting and lengthy conversations when she's negotiating where the next vacation is going to be. Also, there can be some dialogue during the foreplay. Teasing, begging, whimpering, whatnot.

“Come on, baby. Just this once. Let me do the babysitter.” That, of course, precedes the butcher knife “accident.”

If you're talking, you're not concentrating on the job at hand. Little words of guidance and encouragement are one thing. Saying stupid shit or unprovoked dirty talk can bring things to a screeching halt. Sometimes out of anger. Sometimes out of laughter. It's a bad day when you roll your eyes during sex. A worse day when the “Jaws of Life” clamp down.

Isn't it the words that aren't said, but that you as the author can put there, that matter: the ones that reveal the inner thoughts, which are much more engaging anyhow?

I have focused on that, to explore the inner clock work of sex, at times perfecting it through dialogue or sensations that likely occur but are rarely memorable. Otherwise I feel I am just describing a picture of sex, lovely but without meaning.
