1. More funding for space exploration. Yeah I know we're not going to have moon colonies and stuff like that but what we learn as we try to do those amazing things will help us to build under sea colonies, and other remarkable things.

2. Assholes that drive to the top of the merge lane then stop to be let in need to be run off the road. You have a 200 foot lane to merge into the other one, USE ALL 200 FEET! When you stop, the other lane has to stop, and just because you are 4 cars ahead of the line doesn't make you cool or means you are going faster. You are going SLOWER, and making the rest of us go slower too because YOU HAD TO STOP TO MERGE.

3. A really sense of what world hunger is. Yeah teh pictures of starving kids in Africa is depressing. Be depressed. Better yet, get angry. Get so pissed off about it, you want to do something about it. Then do it! And if you think that Africa is too far away, I'd bet there are hungry people not 20 miles from wherever you are right now. Donate to a local food bank, volunteer to serve a meal now and then. When you throw out that half eaten sandwich cause you just don't like, put that same amount of money into a charity to feed someone who would eat it gratefully.

4. Encourage people to be world citizens. The more I learn about places outside of my home the more I am impressed with how little I know. Cultures, foods, musics, arts, dances, symbolism and philosophies. The challenge of facing somethign new and even a bit unsettling makes me either appreciate what I have more or makes me want to give it up.

5. Realize teachers have a profound impact. They are hard pressed, deal with all the problems of families that come their way, and have to answer to legislative bum fucks who have never walked the hallways in their shoes, much less a full mile. PRotect your future, hug a teacher. And legislative bum fucks, you are where you are becuse of teachers. How about you repay the debt and give them a raise huh?

Ok, now everyone else can post their ideas for a better world.

Imp beat me to the punch, but here's a philosophy that has helped me become infinitely happier in life.

When something begins to bring you down, take a moment and step away, think of something that brings you joy and smile. You'd be surprised how quickly those bad feelings go away. I like to pull out old pictures of times my friends and I hung out together. This morning I looked at an old photo from a tour our band did in Lake Tahoe. We were at a buffet, and it was at the end of the meal where everyone decided to put whatever they could into a cup and drink from it. Stupid college kid stuff. I took a couple pictures of the disgusting concoction, and of people drinking it. I'll never forget the look on peoples face after they drank it, or of J when he chugged the last of it. :p Things like these. Simple things. They are the best.

Also wanted to say I loved #5, and couldn't agree more. :D

One more before I go...

Take an opportunity every once in a while to observe a child in play. Try to see life through their eyes. We get so distracted by stress and our every day lives that we forget those innocent times. Those carefree lives we lived. For me, it gives me hope, especially when I feel down.

Remember those days when we used to play in the sand and swing on the monkey bars. Try it sometime. So what if you look silly? Sometimes that's just what we need.

Realising that it's not necessary to work more than 30 hours a week. We live much better quality of lives than people 50 years ago, why do we have to work quite so hard in order to make our lives even more comfortable ?

Split off the Blue States of America, which would include many of the best parts of both coasts of the U.S., plus Chicago and Minnesota. I'd have to leave Florida, but as much as I love my little house, I'm willing to do my part.

Start at home. Start now. It costs nothing to smile.

Smile. :) It's one of my main philosophies. I love to smile, and it truly is contagious. Who knows, just by smiling at someone, you may prevent an adverse action. :):D (Not to mention that smiling requires fewer muscles than a frown and is actually a stress reducer.)

And when I see you in that dress I can't help but smile!!!

:cathappy:

I'd go with the 'world citizen' idea myself.

One of the biggest problems with human beings is their inability to comprehend 'the other'. 'The other' is not like us, many people think, and so decide that 'the other' can be treated in a way they wouldn't like themselves treated.

Smiling is good too.

1. Treat yourself. Sex, food, booze, etc. Short of extreme excess, this is not a bad thing now and then. Say, screw it and just do it.
2. Treat someone else. Give them a hell of a time. Put a smile on his or her face. I don't care how you do it or why, as long as you don't harm someone.
3. Spend time with your family, no matter how much they annoy you. They are a part of you and you of them. Blood truly is thicker than water some time.
4. Look out for the interests of children in some way. A child rescued from evil of some sort is a child that will not have trauma, scars, etc. from that experience. Who knows how much better that life will be.
5. Don't be so litigious. Law courts are expensive and make things harder on everyone.
6. Don't lie to yourself. Lying to yourself is what causes falsehoods to others, ultimately.
7. Relax. Take a deep breath. All of the worry in the Cosmos will not change something waiting for you the next morning, be it that doctor's appointment or the final exams.

1. Pay it forward.

2. Believe in Karma.

3. There's a saying about HIV/ Aids: If you're not infected with it, you're affected by it.

I would suggest beginning with the self

Go out of doors, out of the city and reconnect with the natural world. Allow clay to return to clay. Up to 93% of Westerner's lives are spent indoors. With over 80% of us urbanized it is as if the vast majority of us live in a concrete bubble - a roofed-in terrain composed of a succession of boxes that fit around us like the layers of a Russian doll (house, car, train, office, bar, gym). Even the main avenues of release from this manufactured world are, well, manufactured (internet, television, radio, ipod, books). So go outside, but do so alone - yes, alone.

One might think that an invitation to enter the stillness of nature is merely naive romanticism that likes to indulge itself and escape the concrete bubble into some narcissistic cocoon. Yet the aloneness is anything but lonely, I assure you. Solitude gradually clarifies the heart beyond the machinations of the ego where the cocoon whisps away. The irony is that at the heart of that aloneness you feel intimately connected with the natural world that you belong to. And yes, you do belong to it - it does not belong to you. The beauty of nature is often the wisest balm gently relieving and releasing the caged mind where calmness washes away anxiety and worry.

On your way there and back do not forget to shake your fist at the stupid fucker who stopped while in the merge.

Everyone devotes one day a year to a selfless act on behalf of someone we dislike.

Think about it: it's fairly easy to do good deeds for the deserving; it makes us feel good about ourselves. But for the undeserving - and even ungrateful? That would be character-building.

And you share with all of us when you laugh and smile! It makes us smile too to see your enjoyment.
