Things that disqualify Democrats:

In 1972 Ed Muskie was forced out of the Democratic Party nomination because he became upset about his wife being accused of being a drunken racist.

In 1988 Gary Hart was forced out of the Democratic Party nomination because he spent time in a house & sailboat with a woman not his wife. He mortgaged his home to self-fund his campaign (refusing to accept money from PACs) which meant he had unacceptable debts.

In 2004 Howard Dean was forced out of the Democratic Party nomination for yelling ‘Yeah’ too loudly whilst giving a speech.

Things that Republicans insist on:

Stealing from pets charities.
Having racist policies for your rental properties.
Telling a porn star that you need to screw her because she looks like your daughter.
Saying on TV that you want to have sex with your daughter.
Mocking the disabled.
Boasting that 9/11 meant that your name was now on the tallest building in New York.
Disparaging people in the military.
Running businesses into bankruptcy.
Failing to pay contractors and lawyers.
Wearing diapers.
Announcing that you want to suspend the Constitution.
Announcing that you want to be a dictator.
Stealing classified documents and keeping them where hostile foreign agents can access them.
Announcing that you will only accept the result of an election if you win.
Having multiple felony convictions.

What has been missed off the list?

Keeping factory original gonads, and suggesting kids keep theirs until they're old enough to make adult decisions.

Paul Manafort running election campaigns for Russian stooges in Ukraine and for Republicans in the US.

Draft dodger running for President.

Staining an interns blue dress in the oval office.

Oops that was a Dem.

There are plenty of jack asses on both sides.

That was also about 30 years ago. Perhaps something more recent?

Does the both sides fallacy make you feel better about Trump?

The original post refers to the 1970's and 1980s. Yet the 1990's to 2001 is to long ago.

Going with the time heals all wounds. The ex-president who stained the dress is still one highest regarded and influential people in the democrat party.

Not to mention politicians using influence and threats for personal financial gain of their families.

The fallacy of one side is without issue, is a true fallacy.

I did not say anything in support of Trump.

Clinton is the go-to justification for Trump's behavior.

Clinton is an example that the jackasses are on each side.

Yup. Clinton has an inappropriate affair with Monica Lewinsky and took advantage of the inherent power imbalance. He then tried to equivocate about it. He was impeached and had a hearing in the senate. He was not removed from office.

Trump slept with a porn star while his wife was home with their newborn son. Then further tried to use his power to continue the affair by stringing carrots in front of Stormy. After it was all said and done he tried to pay her off to keep her silent to try to influence an election.

Both weren't good... but considering Trump purposefully tried to hide it to lie to the American public to swindle his way into office... yeah, not quite the same.

You should have added Trump's problems with abdominal gas emissions.

Thank you for noting that both sides have issues.

You seem to leave out, what Clinton was impeached for. Which was lying to congress. The definition of lying is to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive.

Also, I do not think you want to go down the path of Presidential candidates lying and covering up affairs. Look up, Gennifer Flowers.

Yes he got impeached for lying to congress. Just like Trump got convicted for lying on his financials. That's what happens with a lot of these powerful men who believe they can get away with this type of behavior. It's not the act usually, but the coverup that gets them.

In the meantime we also have Ivana Trump, E Jean Carroll, Jill Harth, Summer Zervos, Alva Johnson, Jessica Leeds, Kristina Anderson, Lisa Boyne, Cathy Heller, Temple McDowell, Amy Morris, Karena Virginia, Karen Johnson, Mindy McGilivray, Rachel Cooks, Natasha Stoynoff... etc - there's about a dozen or so more names but I'm tired of typing them - to add to Trump's list of sexual assaults.

Not to mention that the consensual affair occurred in Bill Clinton’s second term, so there wasn’t really an opportunity for Democratic voters to reject Bill Clinton at the ballot box.

Ironically,(infuriatingly) it was Al Gore and Hillary whose political campaigns / aspirations took the brunt of the Bill Clinton scandal at the ballot box.

😑

I love the smell of "30 year old both sides-ism" early in the morning
It smells like.....desperation.

Read the previous messages, I think this has been covered already.

So then this was all ok 30years ago, but not today, cuz its the other side did it. Got it. Let me update my rule book.

So what is the point then?

The point was: Democrats do hold their own to a high standard.

😑

Bill Clinton was in his second term when the scandal hit.

There was no way for Democratic voters to reject him at the ballot box.

(And no, Democratic senators were NOT going to remove Bill Clinton from office for trying to cover up a consensual affair. Also: 10 republicans voted against the impeachment on the first count, and five republicans voted against impeachment on the second count.)

😑

Or is this simply for propaganda and not a discussion forum?

Kudos for using the standard talking point of bothsideism.

The “propaganda” is yours.

Calling a spade a spade is NOT a talking point.

😑

I don't recall Monica saying that Bill wanted to screw her because she looked like his daughter.
I also don't recall the Democratic Party saying that they approved of the affair because that reflected their values.
But I do recall the Republicans blocking appointments to the SCOTUS because there was only 12 months before the election.

So then the higher standard of the Democrats is marching Bill Clinton as a prominent figure at every convention since he left office.

Simply not true and hardly propaganda from what I have written. Nothing was said to defend Trump only that both sides have issues. Unlike those who think the Dem's are pure and honest.

As noted, I would prefer a different candidate as a Republican and a Democrat.

Both sides have several spades in the hands they play, yet play their hands as though they do not.

My point is simple, if you are going to throw stones, at least acknowledge there are issues on both sides.

When you want to be sure your coverup stays covered, you have that person arrested and killed in prison.

President Clinton had an affair and tried to conceal it from his wife.

Trump had an affair, boasted about it to his friends and tried to conceal it from the voters.

Clinton is an example that the jackasses are on each side.

What the fuck is wrong with you that you literally are calling staining a dress and grab em by the pussy as both sides have jackasses. Clinton cheated on his wife. The closest anybody can argue to it being nonconsensual is that no person is capable of consenting to sex with the President. Say no and you wake up in Gitmo. According to Monica she initiated.

Grab em by the pussy is ASSAULT.

So its really showing what kind of person you are that you would compare these two things.
