Things like this make me believe in America again.

Sorry, too distracted by the picture of Whitney blowing a giant black dildo to actually read the text.

Can you say ......"soft targets?"......

P.C. is really great, until it kills a couple of thousand citizens.
The terrorists will go where they can operate freely, and kill for their Jihad with impunity. But, that's freedom in America, like you said.

Of course, you have nothing to worry about.

But, I'll be damned if I'm under surveillence because I have a copy of the Q'uran in my backpack, or I speak my beliefs in public or in private conversation.

Did you read the fucking article? Or did you come in and paste in your usual shitty response? Jesus fucking Christ, what kind of fucking Libertarian are you if you can't see the absolute bullshit and liberty-depriving senselessness that is the USA PATRIOT ACT. God damn.

You're just another Republican. Say it. Embrace it.

You don't give two shits about liberty. You're just scared of another attack.

I support the President in taking out Saddam and his stance on terrorism. That being said, I think that enough of our rights have been whittled away over the decades. We can't become a police state, it is just not what we are about.

Dix mentioned the power of the states earlier. Excellent point, as I feel that too much power has already been transferred to the Federal level, again, over the decades. It has to stop.

Imprisoned without a trial, yikes!

An interesting and well intentioned gesture - but little more than that. Kind of like some city declaring itself a nuclear free zone.

While I may agree with the intentions - it is fraught with problems if the city tries to enforce it. For one thing, if this is law and not just a meaningless resolution, it puts a city employee in danger of either breaking city law if they cooperate with federal investigations, or in danger of breaking federal law if they don't. The employee would be between a rock and a hard place. Moreover, now the employee has to be an expert on civil rights to know whether they should or shouldn't cooperate with the Feds on anything.

I will reiterate - I agree with the sentiment, but this is your typical feel good nonsense.

OTOH, you've got the idiot in Flagstaff who said ""Just about all of us realize that we're going to have to give up some freedoms to make sure we're safe from terrorism," - yeah right.

Please Lord, send down some wisdom to these idiots (on both sides of the issue). :(

I think that this is a good gesture, but ineffective. I think that for something like this to actually be of real service, it must be passed at the state level, not just municipal.

A state flouting GWB is a fight that can be won.

Most states have constitutions that mirror the federal consititution's bill of rights. Passing a resolution that upholds those rights on a state level would be nearly impossible for Ashcroft to win. GWB would have a choice, rescind the patriot act or face the prospect of being the guy who re-started the civil war--well, without the war part.

I"m of two minds on this particular statement. Part of me says "Right on!". The other part of me says, "Yeah, well, it's tough given the one common thread to the Al Qaeda terrorists".

I honestly dont' know where I fall on this.

I feel ever so patriotic whenever I see a man in BDUs :D Politically speaking though, I don't care what the cause, I support our troops

Agreed. I think it's interesting that local governments still aren't seeing their appropriations for homeland security/ emergency preparedness that followed 9/11, either.

Maybe librarians & other local officials wouldn't "have time" to cooperate, since they're already way over budget due to previous unfunded mandates & alerts.

Today I learned that part of the basis for our orange alert is merely word from an imprisoned Al Quida member. So basically, an enemy with nothing better to do than seek revenge can spend the rest of his life making up terrifying stories, and the US government will empower him by issuing warnings.

You do have to realize is that the Patriot Act, if left in legislation is going to come back against us. It's too much of a loophole in the constitution for it not to.

as for the AQ thing... Al Qaeda is a fringe group. They are a very very very very very very small group of extremists. Most Muslims are peace loving. I hope I never see the day where having the Koran is enough to get rid of you, but every day, it just seems closer and closer. :(
