The way that the water comes out of the tap cold enough to drink without ice.

The way that you can see your breath.

The crisp air that makes your cheeks rosy.

Winter Bliss

The chill night, with a clear high sky. The stars are so sharp that it looks like a bag of gems was scattered int he heavens.

Snow at night. It gets so very quiet that you can hear the snow falling through the trees. The gentle hissing, and the snow drifing lazily to earth.

Or...to put it another way (look Ma! Jim has a hobby!)

Snowflakes fall to earth
Embraced by the cold bare ground
The soul of Winter

Hot radiators
Firmly closed windows
Securely fastened draft excluders
Sweaters
Overcoats
Fur lined boots
Hot toddies...

:D

I never much cared for Winter....more of a Summer girl. But when you explain Winter like that, I may just have a new favorite season.:)

Why thanks! I've recently started trying my hand at haiku writing, just because it looked so neat.

But if the chill gets to you, come on over here. I'll keep you warm :)

Ah yes! A clear, cold night with a light snowfall with the moonlight glistening on the newly fallen snow. Man, that's hard to beat.

Unless it's jolie coming to bed in her favorite flannel night gown with the moonlight filtering in through the window...no, WAIT! NOW I'm getting a little scared! That things itchy!! ;)

(Kidding...Kidding)

Phantom. :D

Winter :

* Getting to wear gloves

* Going outside and feeling the cold air on my face.

* The idea of a cold night & me so warm and cozy under a heap of blankets then throwing them off in the mid of the night .. my skin feeling hot .. my pjs soon following.

* Getting home and drinking hot chocolate.

* Winter nights ... looking up into the clear sky & making a wish upon a star.

I wish I may, I wish I might!

I hope your sky was clear tonight, and that you get the wish you wished for...

Winter Loves:

-Fires in the fireplace

-Cute sweaters

-Flannel sheets and warm pj's

-Spiked hot chocolate

-Peppermint ice cream

-Knowing that since I live in Florida, by the time I get tired of the cold it will be warm again!

  • Wrapping my cold fingers around a cup of coffee.
  • Snowballs. (My dog loves to chase them.)
  • The quiet. In the woods with fesh snow, complete silence.
  • Flannel.
  • Beard. The cold is an excuse not to shave.
  • The stars, in winter they seem just a breath away.
  • Fireplace; snap, crackle, pop.

winter

definately my favorite season. . .

homemade cider and the way it makes your house smell

a nice fire in the fireplace and how fires die down later at night. . .the coals just glowing with the little bit of heat left in them.

sweaters, coats, gloves, scarves, hats. . .anything that you can bundle up in!!

Snow!!!! *except driving in it* Playing in it is fun!! ohh, skiing too!

Flannel sheets, down comforter and someone to keep warm with

how grass crunches under your feet when you leave in the morning and it has frozen.

Christmas lights & decorations

seeing the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains covered in snow on the clear crisp days in Fresno (rare, it is usually foggy)

knowing that spring is just around the corner. . .

Raindrops on kittens and warm woolen mittens

:p

Hmmmmm, some things I love about winter.....well, the best thing I love is playing Snow Baseball with the neighborhood children.

Right after I moved to Ohio, the area had a most snowy winter. It seems the snow was on the ground from November until April. Well, my son was starting to have withdrawal from playing baseball outside with his friends.....so we started our Snow Baseball league.

The great thing about Snow Baseball is that you can play it anytime it snows. We don't use a wooden bat, though, because that would ruin the wood with all of that wet slush, but we do use a plastic bat. The baseballs are tightly packed snowballs.

It's become a tradition, now, and each time it snows the boys still get together and have so much fun. But, in all honesty, I probably have the most fun of all because I get to see the boys laugh and enjoy themselves. Then it's time for all of them to come inside for some hot chocolate and cinnamon muffins.

Standing outside at night, listening to the hushed silence. Looking at the snowy landscape illuminated by the reflected starlight and moon.
Walking in the quiet, feet making the only sound in the still. Feeling like the last person on Earth, only to be reassured by the sprinkling of footprints from critters who make their nightly rounds, no matter what the weather.
Oh, did I mention piling the quilts and comforters on the bed, and opening the window a hair, to smell the "new" of freshly fallen snow while I sleep? :D

I love winter

- Snowmen
- Being able to see my breath
- Watching my dog and cat trying to walk through a few feet of snow.
- How everything seems almost magical when all the Christmas decorations are up and the snowflakes are on the streetlights Downtown and South Street. (anyone from Philly will know what I'm talking about)
- Ice skating
- How the sky always seems so clear at night
- Bayberry candles
- Hot chocolate
- Snowball fights with all the kids in my neighborhood
- Mittens, scarves and hats

I'm not a teal winter fan, as a rule, but this one might be a little different. I'm looking forward to snuggling next to Draco this year, under my flannel sheets and comforter and sharing a little body heat. :)

The catwalk at South Haven pier when the ice frosts it and the sun makes it glitter like a million diamonds.

Ice caves big enough to walk in on Lake Michigan.

The smell of wood burning and the glitter of the snow at night.

Coming up over the hill and seeing the trees dusted with snow at dawn, the way it glows and then explodes when the wind hits the branches.

Getting up in the middle of the night and seeing the snow flying in the streetlights.

Coming in from the cold and warming yourself in front of the fire.

Snowboarding.

Crunching the tops of ice covered puddles, that is so much fun.

things I hate about winter:
Trees exploding
waking up to 6 feet of snow that wasn't there when I went to sleep and having to wade through it
waking up every two hours to feed the fire so I won't freeze to death
tree limbs falling and hitting the powerlines, leaving me stranded here without power or telephone
being alone on a cold night when there is nothing I'd like better than to have someone to cuddle with

Happy Fucking Christmas people,
Scrooge.
