Trump was never a morally virtuous person by any sane or reasonable metric. He was at least somewhat better restrained when he was younger (though there were disturbing signs, as with the Central Park Five), but that's another issue. He seemed likeable and pragmatic, or more so, to a younger version of me, at least, but that was back in the 90s or early 2000s. He was also a bit more liberal on some issues (some of which I would agree with, some not so much) back then, and he noticeably backed out of the Reform Party bid due to the taint of association with people like David Duke. The fact that he later pretended not to know about David Duke, well, that's telling. The man is just...not his former self. He's all of the bad from the past....and it's hard to find the good, if any, that used to be there.

If you look at the full quote, it's patently obvious that "they let you" is simply his way of saying "they can't stop me because I'm rich and powerful". And even you quoted "I don't even wait," which of course means he has no way of knowing if they're willing to "let" him or not.
