I just got a nice letter from a reader who liked my stories. That's nice.

What's not so nice is that he said he found it posted at a site called "thehun.com." I went there, but all I found were pages and pages of links to various smut sites.

I only post my stuff at Lit., and I never gave permission for "thehun.com" to use any of it. Anyone know what's up here? Did they just find it here and steal it to put on another site?

I think it was just spam. Somebody trying to promote thehun.com. As far as I can see there are no stories there - whoever sent you the message I'd say is lying.

You know that there are webpages that just take random sections of sentences from Porn sites and splice them together on a webpage. When you click on the webpage you get all kinds of neat neverending popups. You also get a number of spyware programs downloaded to your computer. (Not that I've ever done anything like this)

However, at another site, Only Movies I think, I often get linked to Literotica. Only Movies is, in fact, featured as a Top Site on the opening page of Lit.

Only Movies promote their site on TheHun.

Beyond the smile your posts give me on this thread (for your wit, not the incident), here are some disturbing thoughts that we may want to bring to the attention of Laurel and Manu.

Apparently Literotica, the site, has no objections to having their pages (and our stories) scanned and indexed by search engines.

Just to prove I really do provide more information than anyone probably wants to hear:
To prevent a page from being indexed (as opposed to being submitted) it has to have the following in the header section:
<meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow">
the first part applies to the page itself, and the second to any links found on the page.

What this tells us about Lit is that they let search spiders crawl through their content to use at search sites. How those sites use the information is what should really come into question. For them to find one of MathGirls' stories and use part of that content to link to the story at Lit, or to link to Lit is ethical and within the bounds that Lit apparently allows. To use it to link to some other content (not Lit) is not ethical and should be reported to the site administrators so they can contact the misuser and ask them to correct the link to a page that at least mentions Lit as the source of erotic stories.

My advice, MG, is you should try to grab the MathGirl.com domain (tucows says its expires 11/13/2003), redirect it here to your story page and take all this as advertising.
