This thread is to help Svenskaflicka reach her target number of posts before 9 June.

All you have to do is change the subject with every post, and Svenskaflicka has to post something on the each subject.

So here is the first NEW unpolluted subject:

Ants' Eggs

Get going, Svenskaflicka. What can you say about Ants' Eggs.

Relevance is not necessary.

Og

*giggle*

Thanks, og, I appreciate the effort! OK, here goes:

Ant eggs are surprisingly similar to a certain type of puffed rice cereals.

Ant eggs are great with ketchup.

and, finally, with the courtesy of my dear, sweet Snape:

Ant eggs are vital to Stomach Growl Potions.

Next challenge: Floccinaucinilipilification.

Go for it Svenska.

I'm using the no-relevance-required loophole here.

I've misplaced some quilt blocks. I sew them this morning, and now I can't find them. I've been looking everywhere. Even in the fridge. (Hey, I've found deodorants in my jewellery box, so ANYTHING's possible!)

Where can they be?

Salted herrings.

Sorry, that's my last tonight.

Over to the rest of you.

Og

Ooh good answer. For those who are interested floccinaucinilipilification is the action of nothing of interest or value.

Next up: Newbies.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

The old favourite we test the kids with, hehe!!!!!

Antidisestablishmentarianism.

In the old days, before the fridge was invented, Swedes used to salt fish, especially herring, in order to make it last over the winter.

Newbies. They are cute. Innocent, curious, and unknowing. Whenever I see a newbie asking questions about things that are obvious to the rest of us, I get nostalgic.

When I was an idealistic teenager, I almost joined an extreme communist group, just because there were so many cute guys in it.

Swedish folklore and a pesky thread

Is there a relationship between dopp i grytan and garderobe habits?

more Svensk lore

Is this true?

On good friday in northern Sweden there was a custom which wasn't that pleasent for the girls... Early in the morning the boys in the village gathered, equipped with birch twigs. Then they went to every farm in the neighborhood and whipped the girls with the branches until they gave the boys something to drink, and that wasn't water...

Kind of. Dopp i grytan is a dish served at christmas. Chunks of bread is dipped into a spicy broth. A few hours after eating this, one might have to go to the garderob. In the case of og's strange friends, to get rid of the "dopp", or, in the Swedish sense of the word, which is "wardrobe", to change into something more elastic.

There. 3600 posts. 400 more to go. I'm going to bed. Nighty-night, y'all!

Svensk fashion designer

Who is the Swedish Fashion designer trained in the couture houses of Paris and now at the helm of Bill Blass, one of New York's most famous sportswear houses?

Trollsländiana

Flicka: I was surfing, trying to find stuff you could post to. This is very interesting and hopefully will be for your other Lit.pals. No wonder you are hooked on Hogswortsiana. - Pear

"The Swedish name for dragonfly is trollslända, which means "hobgoblin fly" in English. Long time ago people in Sweden believed that hobgoblins, elves, brownies and such creatures lived in our great woods. In that folklore the dragonflies was considered to be the hobgoblins twisting tools. During the history the dragonflies even have been connected with love and female, the names damselfly (England), Demoiselle (France) and Jungfer (Germany) are some examples of those nice associations. An old Swedish name for dragonfly is Blindsticka ("Blind stinger"), this name comes from the opinion that a dragonfly could pick out your eyes. Other people thought that the dragonfly could sew together your eyelids.

An other old Swedish name is Skams besman ("Devil's steelyard"), this name probably depends on the dragonfly's body shape that, with some imagination looks like the weighting tool. In the folklore this was interpreted as that the Devil used the dragonfly to weight the people's souls. When a dragonfly flew around your head, your soul was weighted and you should expect seriously injury as punishment. It is very interesting that, despite of those ideas that the dragonfly should be the Devil's tool, the dragonfly have been a holy animal in Scandinavia. In the Æsir cult the dragonfly was thought to be the love goddess Freya's symbol.

I haven't heard of that one...

I do know that on... you call it good friday? The one in Easter? We call it long friday. That's because in the old times, you weren't allowed to do anything fun this day. No singing, no dancing, no going out. You just sat and read the bible and suffered, out of sympathy for Jesus, who suffered on that very same day, many years ago. That was one onf the looooooooooongest days of the year.

And in the morning, in order for people to really suffer, every family whipped each of its members with birch twigs. Imagine trying to sit still and read the bible when your ass is smarting!:(

Christianity is a weird thing!

I don't know. Who?

Re: Trollsländiana

It's fascinating how many legends there are about dragon flies! I've heard that if a dragon fly will sit on your head, you'll be blessed with good luck.

We also used to have 3 different kinds of dragon flies. The young, slim, green one was Jungfruslända, the Virgin Dragon Fly, because it reminded of a slender young girl, without her forms yet. The second, I can't remember the name of, but it was in the middle, the woman, so to speak.
The last one was a short, plump one, which was called Trollslända, Goblin Fly, and was regarded as the mother-in-law, the old woman, the "troll" - a goblin!:)

If people would recycle more, we could re-use the wood pulp, and wouldn't have to cut down as many trees to make new wood pulp, which would
  • give us more trees, who in turn would make the air fresher for us, and
  • not have so many big dumps rottening here and there.
    [/list=a]

We need to take better care of our world.
