The Woke Culture War is Making Americans Socially Conservative

Wokeness rules America. In the last three years every element of public life from governments to corporations has been conditioned to impose a radical social agenda on the nation. Women have ceased to exist and the government is forcing schools to sexually indoctrinate children.

A new Gallup poll suggests that this culture war has backfired. Badly. This year the largest number of Americans has come out of the closet as social conservatives since 2012.

Biden has taken us back to Obama’s first term in more ways than one.

That’s all the more remarkable because even last year the country was nearly tied between social conservatives and the socially liberal. This year the number of socially conservative Americans shot up from 33% to 38% while the socially liberal fell from 34% to 29%.

That’s a massive inversion from 2021 when 34% claimed to be socially liberal and only 30% were socially conservative, and the end of American values seemed to be here.

The shift is driven by Republicans. By 2021, only 60% of Republicans described themselves as socially conservative while a third identified as moderate. This matched declines in religious belief and values recorded in other polls: some of which showed barely half of Republicans describing religion as being important to them. But what a faltering religiosity in a nation losing its values could not accomplish, the woke culture war did.

74% of Republicans now identify as socially conservative. What drove a 14% increase in a few years? Perhaps seeing the alternative socially leftist dystopia made up their minds.

Democrats met declining religiosity and values with a kulturkampf that was not satisfied with adult sexual license but became perversely obsessed with sexualizing children. The electoral consequences of that toppled Democrat rule in a number of statues. And as the Biden administration doubles down on sexualizing children, threatening to investigate schools that don’t serve pornographic materials to children, Republicans are realizing what they believe.

The growth among independents, a majority of whom identify as social moderates has been marked, but limited, with social conservatives rising from 24% to 29%. Equally importantly, the number of social liberals among independents has fallen from 27% to 23%.

More independents, by a narrow margin, are now socially conservative than socially liberal.

There is no such thing as Woke. It is simply the next boogyman. Just another baseless fear to propagate and scare the sheeple of Hannity and Trumpism and Jordan Peterson.

It is not even a right or left thing. It is the Haves using a tool to keep dividing the Have-nots into tribes and warring groups and factions so the Haves may continue to divide and rule and take and exploit.

Selfishness rules America.

The so-called "culture war" is done to stop people blaming the super rich billionaire capitalists for society's problems. Wake up, FFS.

When they do things like end Roe v Wade and moan about "woke", they want to divide people and stop us blaming the super rich. It's a classic "Oh, look over there" tactic. Both conservatives and liberals in the establishment are in on this divisive strategy.

“Both sides” rhetoric is always a defense of conservative misbehavior.

I think that we're seeing (as I posted in the other thread) that this is especially true of our recent immigrant populations that trended towards Democrat because, well, you know, the pervasive political propaganda that Republicans are Racist and Xenophobic, but the longer they reside here, the more they become aware that not only do the Democrats run counter to their traditionally conservative cultural leanings, but they are absolutely hostile towards them and trying to indoctrinate their children by destroying their cultural values and then replacing them with a shallow, cartoon image of what the Left imagines/wants their culture to be.

We don't want your values! We want your skin color, foods and holidays!

So you're raising your daughter according to traditional Chinese culture?

The woke culture is a harbinger of the collapse of American culture as we've known it to be. It is a descent into chaos.

That depends on who the two sides are. Liberals and conservatives in the establishment both have shared interests in dividing anti-establishment opposition, and the culture war suits their purposes. The biggest problem in society is economic inequality and imperialist warmongering, both of which are caused by the super rich and their capitalist system. When the politicians start saying that things like abortion rights, gun rights, trans issues and pronouns are the problem (whichever side you may be on in that) they are trying to distract you from something.

And what enables conservatism is the following:

1. Democrats claim to represent the working and middle classes, and then pursue a pro-big business agenda in power
2. Congressional Democrats appease Congressional Republicans
3. Congressional Republicans appease the conservative crazies in the GOP base.

Point 3 then emboldens the conservative base to go further. It's been happening for decades.

Human rights are as important as economic rights. There's no reason we can't fight for trans equality WHILE we overthrow capitalism.

Meanwhile capitalism pays the bills which allow you to post your anti-capitalism thoughts on this board.

No. Workers' labor does that. It creates every bit of real wealth. For example, workers make computers, distribute them in delivery vans to people's homes or onto shop shelves etc. Without workers making, distributing and buying, there is no wealth at all and society comes to a standstill.

This is interesting, a guide on how to erroneously interpret polling data to see the outcome a person wants it to be. The data definitely says that independent voters are becoming more socially conservative, but that doesn't mean that existing independent voters are going in that direction. It could indicate (and with the rising number of Republican voters identifying as Independent I will argue does) that more Republican voters are declaring to be Independent voters. Abandoning the republican party does not mean they abandon all their conservative beliefs. It does mean they are probably disgusted with what the Republican party is offering these days.

All that said the polls show 49% of voters identify as Independent. I think both parties should pay attention to that. It shows that almost 50% of voters are looking for something new, something less divisive and are willing to vote either way when they find it. Won't happen? all anyone has to do is look back at the 2016 election. Hillary was a shoo-in, remember? It didn't work out that way though. And it doesn't matter a damn bit if Hillary got more of the popular vote, Trump won. What that means and what I'm saying is with almost 50% of voters ready to vote either way, taking any thing for granted is stupid and stupid is as stupid does.

Publicly traded companies are realizing that wokeness often doesn’t play well with investors and customers.

Companies Quiet Diversity and Sustainability Talk Amid Culture War Boycotts

Mentions of social-impact initiatives during earnings calls have declined, reversing a trend that had picked up after the killing of George Floyd in 2020

“The easiest thing to do is just to stay out of the conversation and emphasize other facets of business that are going to be perceived as less controversial and more core to the traditional metrics of the business,” said Jason Jay, senior lecturer of sustainability at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

And liberalism created this board which allows all the conservatives to come here and post their anti-liberalism thoughts.

And dagnabbit, let's get rid of this rock and roll music, with its undulating African beats! It's the work of the Devil, l tell ya!

Who establishes the initial investment that starts a business, the innovation that gives birth to its product, business plan, place of business, innovation, management, sales, and production objectives, that dictate the hiring goals of a workforce?

Most of those people started out as part of that same workforce.

Lol, more of socialism's lies.

Workers do all that because they get PAID MONEY. If you're not getting paid, you don't work.

Or do you think unions going on strike over pay and benefits isn't a real thing?

You've got it completely backwards. Without making, distributing and selling, there is no real wealth at all (nor money to be paid), and society comes to a standstill. And the bosses are always trying to get people to work extra without more money, or shipping the jobs abroad to cheaper areas. Workers' labor creates the wealth, and the bosses take most of it for themselves. And then they say what you do, i.e. that "they" spend the money and make everything possible, rather than workers' labor creating all that wealth that they've stolen.
