The Weekly Weigh-in Thread.

Fuck the world, man. I had a shitty day. Our trip is postponed, our flight was supposed to be tomorrow and now it's not till Saturday. We got takeout Thai for dinner. Yeah, it's not what I should be eating. And I weighed in OVER 165 this morning but I still got Thai. But I am just so mad.

I know I shouldn't eat when I'm emotional, but I have a headache from crying and I didn't feel like eating properly and I just hate everything.

Can you forgive me, guys? Hugs please?

awww *hugs* don't worry I had to have nachos with cheese and salsa last night at the concert... they were tasty.

So sorry, Etoile. But you'll get to Vegas eventually. Just enjoy your trip and don't worry about your weight until you get back.

The weather will be better when you get back and you can do your walking thing. Not to be critical, but your motivation to exercise seems to be lacking. If you want to lose weight you need to exercise. If you don't it's like translating into English but leaving out the verbs.

It's possible to lose weight without exercise, but you'd end up what they call "Skinny fat" Think of a chick with an eating disorder who weighs 90 pounds but is just skin hanging on bones. Yuck.

GRRR I'm about a kilo (2.2lbs) more than I was a couple of weeks ago, but I've been doing quite a bit of weight training/boxing/cardio, so more muscle I'm thinking.....plus my period is due in a few days and I always get a bit of bloating round the middle before it starts.

Fitness levels are improving quite a bit, I was able to do 60 crunches (3 sets of 20) yesterday (but my tummy muscles are complaining today!) :D That's twice as many as I was doing a couple of weeks ago :nana:

The tale of the tape

1/15 to 2/15

Gained a half inch on my chest
Gained half inch on bicep
Lost 1.5 inches of belly
Lost 1 inch of butt
Gained half inch on thigh

alright here goes nothing...
since June of last year to now this is how it worked out so far.

Feb 2007
Lovehandles/Sides = 33 Inches
Upper thigh/left= 22
Upper thigh/right=21
Hips/middle butt=40
Waist=28

weight=154 lbs

Lost: 2.5 inches
10 lbs gained

Total: 9 inches overall
10 lbs gained

So basically I had to gain a bunch of muscle and I've been working my abs a lot for a while.

My scale is bumming me out. I really need to get a proper digital one... because yesterday I was apparently down to 168 from my start weight of 175, which thrilled me to no end... but now I'm apparently back up over 180? Considering how I ate and worked out yesterday (i.e., awesomely) that just ain't right. I suppose I could learn how to use the balancey scale at the gym...

I've always thought the important thing is using the same scale every time, no matter what kind it is. If you use different scales, you are likely to get different results. For example, the scale at my doctor's office consistently weighs me in about 5 lbs heavier than at home! So when I record my weight, I make sure I'm using the one at home. I'm not sure what the "most accurate" type of scale would be, though...which would be closest to a person's "real" weight.

Eh, I wouldn't worry about day to day differences. A pint of water weighs a pound. It's not uncommon to see a fighter or wrestler lose 10 pounds in hours to make weight. They certainly aren't losing fat.

Digital isn't necessarily better either as far as scales go. At least mine isn't. Learn to use the balancey one. But do it at the same time every time. Like the first thing in the morning before you eat.

I use the scale at the dialysis unit (they have two but I always use the one Master uses), it has to be accurate to make sure the patients get the right amount of fluid taken off when they are dialysed. Master loses between 2 and 3 kg three times a week ;) (1kg=1 litre of fluid).

Okay.... I'm making it official. I'm moving my weigh-in day from Fridays to Saturdays.

252 again today. *sighs*

No progress but at least I'm not losing ground.

In other news, I may have mentioned back before my heart attack, that I was being considered for a position with a different company, doing first line tech support for their credit union customers. Long story short - between heart attack, surgery and recovery from same, I was out of commission too long and they hired someone else for the position.

I found out this last week that the fellow they hired just got canned Monday for soliciting someone while on the job (I wasn't clear if it was a customer who called in or if it was someone he was chatting up OL). MORON! :p I think I will call the VP (who gave me his _personal_ cel phone number last time) and tell him that I'd be interested. :D

I think I, too, will make Saturday my weigh-in day since I'm pretty much guaranteed to go to the gym that day.

The official balancey scale says 175, so that's what I'm going with. Sigh.

Started keeping a diet and exercise journal, I'll see how long that keeps up, and bought a load of healthy food today.

Oh well, we decided to bite the bullet and go on the diet we had been talking about for weeks, yesterday. We have chosen different ones and I told him it wasn't good to weigh ourselves each day, but he insisted and I thought it might inspire me to hang in there....the first 3 days are always the killer for me. LOL, have to say I am happy....in 24 hours I have lost 8 lb!! He hasn't lost as much, but then he is allowed more than I am on the method he chose. At this rate, I can hang in there and not give in to temptation, even the gorgeous chocolates he bought me on Valentines Day which sit beside my computer trying to get me to eat them!! :D

Good for both of you! I suspect though, that you will be disappointed in the long run if you continue weighing in daily. You will see a LOT of variation on a daily basis - down 8, up 3, down 1, up 2 - it can be amusing to weigh in daily, but you might want to only record your weight on a weekly basis.

Can I ask what sort of diet each of you chose? In my experience it is a lot harder to keep it up when one's spouse is eating differently!

LOL, that is what I told him, but he was keen to see if his suffering had come to anything!! I am doing Modifast which I have done before with success, though not usually this fast..it always gives me a kickstart though and improves the way I feel internally...he is on Weightcare which includes lots more food (3 course dinner) and more calories a day. My son just gets to eat away and laugh at us suffering when he puts on some lasagne or something that smells delightful. :p

Modifast! I think that's the same thing as what they call Medifast in the U.S., maybe? It's an all-liquid diet? I was talking about it earlier in this thread I think, I'll be interested to hear how it goes for you.

I've never heard of WeightCare, I will have to look it up when I get back to a proper computer. (Right now I'm on a bus in Arizona, heading back to our hotel in Las Vegas!)

How old is your son? I miss the days when I could eat whatever I wanted!

He's 21 with waist length blonde locks that most women would envy. :D Yes, Modifast is an all liquid diet, if that is the route you choose. They do have foods and snacks as well, though when I first tried it I was in Oz and the foods had been removed from the market as they had not gone through the usual period of time of testing by the government. I have seen them here but apart from the occasional fruit and chocolate bar (which are delicious), I am not really interested in trying them. The liquid is just made from powder and 200ml of cold water and if you leave it more than a couple of minutes it becomes a pudding instead of a drink. The last time I went on it I lost several clothes sizes in a short amount of time and felt very healthy and energised due I think to the heaps of vitamins and minerals in the formula.

Here and in Oz it is not sold in supermarkets like most weight loss products, meaning you have to go to a pharmacy (or drugstore here) to buy it. I managed to keep the weight off for a long time after the last diet of it, but coming into a new environment and not knowing what was what in foods etc., and other temptations, it has slipped. I find the first 3 days the hardest, but usually after that you can wave chocolate or anything under my nose and I can easily walk away without a second thought....I actually get to the point I don't want to eat food anymore so then have to force myself slowly back into normal eating habits. LOL, one of the hardest things to get used to is all the spare time you have to fill which normally was spent preparing and eating food!!

Finally, 60s and 70s in the 5 day forecast. Nothing like spring to put a spring in your step.

I am doing a TON of walking in Las Vegas. I must have walked a couple of miles today up and down the strip and all over the place! I don't think it's making up for what I'm eating, but it's good exercise anyway.

600 calories on the elliptical yesterday. Even if it's off by 15% or 20%, that's still an erased meal.

Woohoo...another 2 lbs!!! It's been 8 or 9 years since i've wieghed this much. It feels great. The thing is, i'm not doing much to lose it. It's coming off VERY slowly but it's coming off and that's all that matters. i can't wait to lose another 6 lbs....i will have hit one of my goals. Mind you, i made that goal months and months ago. That doesn't matter. i'll still be accomplishing a goal.

I've seen those calorie counting things on various exercise machines, but how do they work? How does it know?

And yay Kailey!
