The War on Easter

Jesus H. Christ. It's like you people were born under a rock.

Everyone isn't acting like Easter is a Christian holiday - CHRISTIANS are, numb-nuts. Easter is a celebration of the Resurrection of Christ. That's what Christians believe and that's what Christians celebrate on Easter.

If you aren't a Christian; don't celebrate Easter, or celebrate it for whatever fucking reason you want it to mean.

Like the dumbass(s) that always say "Oh my GARSH! It's SO not a Christian deal!!! Those pesky Christians STOLE it!!!!! It's pagan and EVERYONE is too stupid to know that but MEEEEEEEE because Ooo, eeee, I gots da Google!!!"

Fuck sticks.

Get naked and roll in pig shit if that's how you want to recognize the last Sunday in April. Nobody gives a shit. Nobody gives a shit about where the holiday came from, or what other celebrations coincide with it.

Easter, as it's commonly recognized in 2013 America, is a Christian celebration of the Resurrection of Christ. Deal with it or shut the fuck up.

OK.

Who shit in his Cheerios?

people were celebrating at mid-winter way before it was called christmas, celebrating hope, family, tribe, whathaveyou - in other words an excuse for people to gather, form alliances, broaden the bloodlines, booze, and eat. why shouldn't non-christians celebrate it? we all call it 'christmas' simply because it's what we're brought up to call it.

why shouldn't non-christians enjoy the paid holidays and presents? do you propose only christians should have the days off as a paid holiday whilst everyone else works? (plenty work over christmas, regardless of their religious leanings). why should christians have it as a paid holiday? why should christians get presents and not others?

You wrongfully assume I'm against non-christians celebrating Christmas.

All I'm saying is that if you're going to observe a religious holiday, then you should also observe and honor the reasons behind it. It's contrary and flippant for people to want to dismantle and attack those who do believe in Christ, but they damn sure would piss up a storm if we take away the benefits of the very holiday they're attacking wouldn't they?

He makes a good point. I can relate. It's like celebrate and enjoy it for what it's worth or STFU. Why screw up a fun day for the rest of us because some stick-in-the-mud wants to be the Scrooge of Easter?

You didn't answer any of my questions. So you're saying our government is acting unconstitutionally on several levels against the proscription against "respecting an establishment of religion" in the First Amendment?

Why do you insist on being purposely obtuse? Easter eggs rolls, like the commercialization of Christmas, is less and less about Christianity and more and more about enterprise and just having fun. Just because some nitwit school principle insists that Easter egg rolls teach Christian ritual doesn't make it so.

I am enjoying your decline :D

the cultures have blended - people would STILL have been observing a mid-winter celebration (religious or no) even if christianity hadn't arrived and taken over that specific cultural event. so, why should people who want to enjoy a mid-winter celebration 'honour' the christian religious aspects behind why it began to be celebrated in our countries?

personally, i feel people should feel free to call it what they like, celebrate how they wish (so long as it's not hurting others), and generally lay off calling out others for their religious beliefs or lack of during that season of goodwill even if they can't resist the rest of the year.

what i emphatically do not believe is that anyone who doesn't accept christianity as their specific religion should have to accept that christmas (as a celebration of hope) would suddenly cease to exist and that they need be ever so grateful to a faith they don't believe in that we get to celebrate it at all.

and to quote from Little Women: Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without any presents.

You still don't get it. And you're actually lending support to my POV, because we're in agreement. But you're blinded by the fact that you just want to argue.

You can still honor and respect a religious holiday. And understand the reasons behind it. It doesn't mean you have to accept it in your heart - that's a matter of personal choice. And it doesn't mean you have to attack the people that DO accept it in their hearts; of which you reap the rewards.

I think it got called Christmas because of a guy named Christ. :rose: I just want you to know if we were friends I would give you a present. Whatever you believe. I would take a day off to let someone else celebrate what they believe. Just to be supportive you know.

i do get it

i also understand we agree about certain aspects

i don't 'just want to argue', i'm not that petty. i was attempting to get you to clarify why others should 'honour' something the way you suggest they should. any honour awarded should have the integrity of at least being genuine.

you clearly seem fixated on this whole 'there'd be no social advantages in this season if not for the advent of christ'. i will agree to disagree, but wonder why you are so keen to believe i wish to argue. oh wait, i remember now.

dear tryharder :D

i am perfectly aware of why this particular celebration got called Christmas (brought up roman catholic and spent most my pre-teen years in or very close to church).

i love christmas! i love the spirit of it, the giving aspect, the sharing, the great food and the alcohol ;) I would most certainly give you a present. giving gifts is, for me, the best part!

Your whole premise was the Easter egg roll was unconstitutional. So I advanced some questions...which you still avoid.

I did not avoid your moronic questions. I asked you a question, which is why do you hate the first amendment? Why do you hate separation of church and state?

You evaded with ignorant and moronic questions because you don't want to admit that you hate the constitution when it doesn't give you things you like (Christian nation, equal rights for women, blacks, gays).

God bless you and Happy Easter.

I guess by some of the logic in this thread we should make kids go to school on Saturday and Sunday. After all, giving those days off is shoving religion down their throat...

Vette loves the Constitution. He just wants to change it.

People work on Saturdays and Sundays. Many buy alcoholic beverages, go to saloons and public houses. Gamble. Solicit prostitutes.

He loves HIS version of the Constitution, where there's no seperation of Church and State, where only Christians have the right to say whatever they want, where women have no right to vote, where gays aren't supposed to marry, and neither are interracial couples.
