The War on Easter

My thoughts and only my thoughts: Easter being the celebration of Jesus resurrection. The eggs were thought about as a birth. New. They were often given up during lent the time before Easter and brought back colored red for the blood shed by Christ. Bunny's are also the newness of spring. This all got jumbled together. There isn't anything about easter eggs in the bible. But I still like them. We'll be having a hunt. But hey if you can incorporate a celebration for sex I think I could handle that.

Why is everyone acting like Easter is a Christian holiday?

I'm not being facetious. I wasn't raised Christian, I didn't know that was a thing.

Jesus H. Christ. It's like you people were born under a rock.

Everyone isn't acting like Easter is a Christian holiday - CHRISTIANS are, numb-nuts. Easter is a celebration of the Resurrection of Christ. That's what Christians believe and that's what Christians celebrate on Easter.

If you aren't a Christian; don't celebrate Easter, or celebrate it for whatever fucking reason you want it to mean.

Like the dumbass(s) that always say "Oh my GARSH! It's SO not a Christian deal!!! Those pesky Christians STOLE it!!!!! It's pagan and EVERYONE is too stupid to know that but MEEEEEEEE because Ooo, eeee, I gots da Google!!!"

Fuck sticks.

Get naked and roll in pig shit if that's how you want to recognize the last Sunday in April. Nobody gives a shit. Nobody gives a shit about where the holiday came from, or what other celebrations coincide with it.

Easter, as it's commonly recognized in 2013 America, is a Christian celebration of the Resurrection of Christ. Deal with it or shut the fuck up.

Well, the sex one came first, so you're actually incorporating your god into the preestablished sex holiday. Not that the sex is being incorporated into the preestablished god holiday.

Which came first? The zombie or the egg?

It's not like I was born under a rock. I know Christians, I just literally did not know that Easter had a religious connotation. I thought they celebrated Easter because everyone did. I never connected the goddamn mall bunny with the Resurrection! It's not that stupid! Christians always be posting resurrection bullshit, it's kinda the cornerstone of their religion. It's not relegated to just around Easter. Easter's not a holiday that I paid a whole lot of attention to. Remember what Santa said in Rise of the Guardians? "Easter is not Christmas". No one gives a shit. At least I didn't.

No clown, I do not agree with the contemporary liberal interpretation of the First Amendment. Where can I place my finger on that article of the Constitution where I can find the term "separation of church and state." If this was the true intent of the founders, why is every session of Congress opened with a prayer? Why is "In God We trust" tolerated on our money? Why is the symbolism of the "Apotheosis of Washington" tolerated on the ceiling of the Capitol rotunda? Why are the Ten Commandments carved into the wall opposite the Supreme Court Bench? Why do we tolerate religious symbols on the grave stones in our national cemeteries? Why do we have Chaplains in our military? Where in the Christian Bible is there a mention of the fucking Easter Bunny and his eggs?

Here, maybe reading will help you. http://wp.patheos.com.s3.amazonaws....st/files/2012/01/ahlquist_decision_011112.pdf This is a recent judicial ruling regarding separation of church and state in schools. Maybe, just maybe, if you take the time to try to learn something, you will. It's like magic! Have faith!

You didn't answer any of my questions. So you're saying our government is acting unconstitutionally on several levels against the proscription against "respecting an establishment of religion" in the First Amendment?

Why do you insist on being purposely obtuse? Easter eggs rolls, like the commercialization of Christmas, is less and less about Christianity and more and more about enterprise and just having fun. Just because some nitwit school principle insists that Easter egg rolls teach Christian ritual doesn't make it so.

I didn't say anything was or is unconstitutional. I asked why you hate the separation of church and state? You claim to love our nation but hate that we are were founded as a secular state. You can have a secular state without eliminating reference to Fake Invisible Guy in the Sky, but you cannot if you teach Christianity in the public schools. Why should a school do anything at all for Easter? It is a religious holiday and the schools duty is to teach, not to teach religion.

Actually it's just another manifestation of the left's general war on ignorance.

FYP, YW.

Doesn't seem to be gaining much ground in your case, but you'll be dead soon and don't matter.

At least Christians had the good sense to rename the holiday they stole and we now know as Christmas.

With easter they just took the thing and said "Yeah, 'Easter' means Jesus stuff now. Because Jesus."

um... ok...

Not everyone is Christian, you know. Easter is so obviously a fertility holiday that it never occurred to me to Google it. I've always known about it in the context of a fertility holiday. It makes more sense as a fertility holiday, celebrating the rebirth of Spring and the goddess that bears it's name.

I'm so sorry that Christians think that everyone is supposed to remember what fucking holidays they stole.

If they were going to try to make themselves the center of attention, might have tried to cut out all the fertility symbols like the eggs and rabbits.

Some Christians tend to think their religion is the only religion so screw everyone else even when some of their traditions are built on pagan symbolism and practices, which is highly ironic on several levels.

Does the White House have an Easter Egg roll every year? Why, if it's unconstitutional?

Please allow me to explain the difference and hopefully lessen your ignorance somewhat.

The White House Easter Egg roll is a voluntary event, children are not required to be exposed to an event.

A school room, by contrast, has a "captive audience" of children. They have no choice but to be exposed to things that may run contrary to their faith. This is an "establishment clause" issue, whereas the Easter Egg roll is not.

Put another way, let's suppose for a second that your nominally Christian children's mental retardation was less severe and that they were allowed be mainstreamed into the general school population.

And let's say that their classmates were....horror of horrors!....largely Muslim in nature and wanted to celebrate Ramadan or some other Muslim holiday on the school's dime.

As a nominally Christian parent, you'd likely be outraged....outraged, God dammit!....that your tax dollars were used to expose your precious snowflakes to such a "gutter religion", right?

Now, I realize I'm a bit inconsistent here because of nativity scene rulings and such, but I think even a dullard such as yourself can catch my drift.

How can it be a "war" when the Constitution and other laws are correctly applied?

Oh that's right, another Christian delusion.

The same thing. Just like every spring. Wild birds lose nestlings, broken eggs on the lawn. Bunnies going at it, like....bunnies.
Wild flowers, come to bloom. Achoo! Pollen. Soon, the fawns will wander with their mothers. Walt Disney noticed that cute,
sells.

Oh creepy. You could come with me to my church. You can wear jeans. People will probably dress up a little more for Easter. I'm going to wear black pants and a blouse. People will want to shake your hand to welcome you. We have a really awesome praise band so they play a mini concert first. There will be an easter egg hunt for the little ones. Sermon should be great too. It's not scary there.

I just do egg-centered activities. My grade level has our own chicken eggs, from our VP. We have an entire unit focused on oviparous/non-oviparous animals. I use plastic eggs in math, reading, and science right now. No one has complained yet. I wish my school was having an egg hunt, but I'm competitive and would be drilling the hell out of my class to find the most eggs. ;)

I agree, to a point. Everyone is so worried about stepping on each other's toes and pissing off the wrong parent in schools. I just don't see it changing. Usually my school just turns its back and doesn't even acknowledge Easter. I teach the younger ones and as they use my plastic eggs they call them "Easter Eggs" all the time, but I just make sure that I'm not the one calling them any thing other than eggs. I'm just impressed that the this particular school is still able to have an egg hunt.
So there's still hope that kinder garden kids can still have fun w/out everyone making a big issue of it?

Do you celebrate Christmas? Where in the Bible is there a mention of Santa Claus, Reindeer and the North Pole? Elves were evil spirits in the Bible, why do Christians teach their children that evil spirits make their toys?

If we use the schools to teach Christian rituals, how is that not creating a state church?
You both have a good point. But as much as the LWCJ is in opposition of Christmas being based on Christian origin, it doesn't stop them from celebrating it does it? Oh yeah - take away the reasons behind Christmas and destroy those that believe in Jesus - but take away the presents and paid holidays - Oh no, we can't have that can we?

Thanks for injecting a little truth. It's often overlooked and left behind.

Where the hell do you get these assumptions? You do know that the Santa Clause thing is all make believe, right?

people were celebrating at mid-winter way before it was called christmas, celebrating hope, family, tribe, whathaveyou - in other words an excuse for people to gather, form alliances, broaden the bloodlines, booze, and eat. why shouldn't non-christians celebrate it? we all call it 'christmas' simply because it's what we're brought up to call it.

why shouldn't non-christians enjoy the paid holidays and presents? do you propose only christians should have the days off as a paid holiday whilst everyone else works? (plenty work over christmas, regardless of their religious leanings). why should christians have it as a paid holiday? why should christians get presents and not others?
