The Walking Dead

I'd like to see a vignette about some government lab working on a cure. Or maybe one showing what's going on in the rest of the world.

I think it's safe to say at this point tha the Governor probably represent(ed) one of the biggest extant governments left in the world. The US fell completely as far as we can tell and most countries have similar or worse situations to the US as far as this went. Asia in general but China and India are grossly overpopulated, a zombie plague that hit there wouldn't have anything like the American South East where you could be reasonabbly far from the nearst real population.

South America and Australia might be ok.

I doubt there is a cure and what we got was more than we got in the Comics already. They (last I checked which was a few years back) they didn't even know what we do about the CDC and it being kinda like Meningitus. So that's unlikely.

I wouldn't mind vingnettes just for shits and giggles but I'm against anything that doesn't move the story especially on shows that only get a dozen episodes. I'm still pissed we wasted an episode on the governor and hoping it ties back well enough not just be a waste.

I mean, who is left back at the prison? Carol was banned; it’s now Rick, Daryl, Glen, Maggie, Mich, and Hershel. Hershel might die from the flu; they haven’t promoted any of the other minor cast members, Maggie’s sister, Sasha and Ty (a little, but he’s just running around being the angry black man). So what about that storyline is so intriguing?

However, I do hear you, I hope those screenwriters don't go the way of the show, Lost, with multiple storylines and new character introductions every episode. That gets disjointed and frustrating. Seems to me though, when you have a tribe of people, you have to find them shelter and food. I am guessing the prison is on the Governor’s mind again, he won’t be the leader at first, but people follow the Governor, so I guess he takes over at some point. Also the man gets a little booty on the side as well. God bless him, one eye and all. Pretty hot woman to boot…

Nevertheless, it’s the inner drama, the inner conflict and depth of the characters (as well as the acting) that is compelling TV, oh, and Zombies… I think this season has been a little slow in building, but we’ll see how it goes.

At least with Lost (which I only got through about two seasons of and keep meaning to go through on Netflix) all the people mattered. The only reason we know the Governor is coming back is because of how stories work. He didn't die and they've shown him twice since and that means he'll be back. Based on what we've seen it looks like he's going through a Heel/Face turn and when he shows up he's gonna have I dunno OXYGEN TANKS which might be nice for our nearly dying sick people to have and that'll buy his way back in. And if they do that then the episode wasn't a total waste because it'll just show him having "Randomly" acquired goods that the rest of the cast happens to need.

I agree there is nothing interesting going on at the prison right now. That's one of the major pitfalls of survival scenarios. Things naturally settle into lulls and half the time if they don't you start getting more upset because the cast just doesn't seem to be learning.

These guys have done a pretty good job overall of not holding the Idiot Ball for dear life and that's why the disease kicked in which basically turned all their normal defenses against them and they reacted rather well all things considered.

As far as I'm concerned though Carol is dead. I just wish they'd done that to Dale instead since He was someone I wouldn't have minded coming back at some point in the future.

Yeah, Dale was good....Carol WILL be back..

"You have to be able to come back from this."

They are on a serious redemption theme. What better character to explore with than The Governor?

Carol will come back and I'll be pissed. Ironically not because I disagree with the steps she took. I don't. She should have discussed it with the people who clearly have rank on her first but I'm a fan of "it's better to ask forgiviness than permission" so yeah. She made the right call. She's our redeemer.

The Governor. . .really he's too dangerous to let live. He's like Shane but with less reason. In reality Shane just kinda lucked into the worst scenario ever. He should have taken our other dead character and left when the leaving was good.

For sure. I think the story will be explored, but the Gov is one scary character. We have seen what he has done. To come back from his bad deeds would entail a massive save. What that might be I daren't speculate.

I wish they would do backstories for the characters when their life was 'normal'.

Without the rule of law it's not so cut and dried. Merle, at the end found redemption and he had his share of faults.

God bless Merle. Damn. That was wonderful.

But were his faults as grievous as the Governor's?

I hope the Gov makes it to the other side. My sympathies were widened last week for the character.

Rank? Rick is the reluctant leader....aint no rank, thats why she did what she thought best.

No. Merle was more reactionary. Personal survival. The Governor is a manipulator. But, the loss of his daughter really twisted him up, and he lost her twice. I do hate the way the show scares the bejesus out of me. It took an unexpected side road.

The Gov lost his wife as well. Totally messed him up is my guess...

Of course there is rank. Rick is in charge followed by Hershel. Even then there is an official council that seems to be Rick, Hershel, Glenn, Maggie and Carol and she didn't discuss it with any of them and she didn't fight when Rick told her to get the fuck out because she knew he had every right to kick her out because he is the man in charge.

Why? What they did before the outbreak doesn't matter. Nothing before the outbreak matters anymore because that world is dead (and still walking around.)

I tried watching with my friends but I couldn't figure out why they don't just use a flame thrower or something for all the zombies.

Simple. They don't have a flame thrower. Do you? You might as well asky why they didn't go back for that perfectly functional tank that they know of. It takes too much fuel to operate and Rick probably didn't know how to drive it (not that that should have stopped him)

Fire doesn't kill them, though it does make them smell better.

Fire does too kill them. That's part of why they are so insistant on burning the bodies though they do usually headshot them as well but fire works. It just takes a long time and you're better off shooting/stabbing them.

The Gov lost his wife as well. Totally messed him up is my guess...

So did Rick he didn't go crazy and start keeping zombie heads in fishtanks.

Besides I'm not saying the Governor doesn't have a reason why he is the way he is, I'm saying it doesn't matter he'd have to come bearing really good gifts for anybody to even give him a chance.

I spend too much time thinking about what I'd do in a zombie and/or post apocalyptic world. I don't think I'd throw in with a group... I'm more of the chick with the sword type.

I don't take orders well, and I have no desire to be in charge of anyone.

I'm a loner Dottie, a rebel.

Good luck with that. You won't survive long on your own. Not that anybody survives long in a Zombie Apocalypse. You can count the stories with long term survivors on one hand.

You need a team.

Rick, I guess is the de facto leader, and usually the doctor in the bunch is at the top as well. So you're probalby correct. Carol, on the other hand, said, bunk! Didnt bother to ask Rick, just took action. Whether you think its right or wrong. What Carol did, I believe, was wrong.

But Rick did go crazy after his wife died. Remember taking phone calls from imaginary people?? The Gov is batshit crazy, not just the fish tanks, that's Zombie TV as far as I'm concern. The man murdered the blond, then mowed down his own army....

What about the Omega Man?

Aren't those Vampires? Crappy vampires but vampires like in 'I am Legend'?

Rick is more than the de facto leader. He's the real leader and everybody treats him as such. They keep returning to him for instructions over and over again. We can debate if he's a good leader I think personally he's a rather shitty leader but the people need a man to follow (tis human nature) and they follow him. And Hershel's in charge cus. . .he used to run the farm and was the leader of his team but he submitted to Rick ages ago. Still they are one and two in charge.

I think what Carol did was right, but as you stated she doesn't have the rank to take action without discussion. And thus she was rightly expelled.

Yes I remember Rick going crazy. And as bad as it got he was just made to step down while he got his shit together. He didn't you know, start holding gladiator games with the dead or launching unprovoked attacks. I'll argue that perhaps he could have tried harder to be diplomatic with the Governor but that's it.

Rick was also a cop, so natually he took leadership. But I wasnt saying Rick got as crazy as the Governer....not even close.

I dont think you can just arbitrarily say, these people are probably going to die, therefore, lets kill them now before they die to prevent more deaths....How about just locking them up in a cell, they have cell's remember? But also, to prevent deaths, why not everyone lock down in a cell while they sleep....Its a damn prision for christ sake

I've never been a cop, only a Marine and I'm not really buying that it actually equals leadership skills of any sort. Just authority. A lot of the "problems" they had early on would have been solved if the Old man had been in charge with Rick and Shane as his enforcers.

You could lock them down, and they do that immediately after Carol makes her move. And they still have a zombie outbreak inside there and since they can't put healthy people in there they only have six people who can hardly defend themselves. It's a wonder that didn't turn out worse than it did. Little girl and Hershel could easily have gotten killed in there for example.

As for why not lock down everybody at night I do agree with you. Especially since Zombies are sufficiently stupid that you wouldn't have to lock them in really, you could just take a rope or soemthing and wrap it around the bars everal times, enough that all you have to do is unwind it or untie it, something that requires manual dexterity that zombies lack and be just fine. However they DO address that directly in the series. A sad heart kills faster than a virus and the thing that's keeping people alive is being able to convince themselves that this is "natural" and ok.

Personally I think they'd benefit more from setting up a mini-golf range like in Lost and running scavenger hunts for the kids and zombie killing parties for the adults. Combined with making noise to lure them out and killing them they could probaby clear out th eimmediate area of Zeds pretty easily.
