Go to User CP towards the top left of your screen. As you are new there are bits you can't change yet, such as having an avatar. That depends on having a minimum number of posts.

You should be able to turn on PM's and add to give more information about you.

You can't actually edit the profile part of the profile (location, about me, occupation, etc.). The link takes you to the password edit screen.
