Ooohhh, January, good for you, sweetie ;)

Well, after a false start my reading/ Q&A session as my alter ego went swimmingly and just generally the weekend was lovely.:D

Nice one! I've only been to one book reading, that was Iain Banks which was superb.

Well I'm beginning to think I'll never get out of there.

Mum keeps going "thats just life" and thats all well and good but I DESPISE working their. I can't go in one day without there being a critism or a snide comment made about our performance that doesn't NEED to be made.

I almost cried in the car on the way there this afternoon.

It's sheer hell when work gets you to that state :(

Just keep trying Harmony :rose:

One of the other 3 girls who is trying to get out handed her notice in on monday, my friend Sarah has an interview on thursday and Amiee is trying to find anything.

Just for some reason, no where wants me.

Well, my gran used to say in situations like this, that you're having to wait so long because there's something extra special waiting for you.

Just keep plugging away at it and don't give up.

Thanks guys, its just so hard to stay positive when one job after another says "no thanks" to you and you absolutely despise going to the place you're working at now.

Don't tell me, almost cried as in, just when the tears were about to start you threw a comfort cheesecake down your throat.

So I'm seriously considering changing career path and heading into nursing.

I can specialise in children's health, which would be perfect.

Professional nursing is a good profession, I can recommend it (though I never did paediatrics.) You'll get a good pay-rise from nursery work and there's more job security and scope for overtime and extra cash.

I really hope you find your personal niche somewhere soon honey xxx

Did you do a degree in nursing Velvet or did you do a diploma?

Right now I'm looking at the diploma course, as I already have a degree lol.

I did the diploma because if you do that you get a bursary but on the degree course you have to take out student loans. I did a 6 month conversion course after the diploma so now I do have the degree. It doesn't make a huge amount of difference but you can move up through the staff grades a bit faster with a degree.

I did the nursing diploma and like Velvet then finished my degree.
I did my degree with the open university which suited me better.

I work in private practise not the NHS and have found it a much better place for career development.

My experiences of NHS nursing was that of people hanging on to grades and jobs, leaving little room for advancement.

In private everyone is equal until they prove otherwise.

Again, that works better for me.

Pay rates vary in private and we don't get the same pay deals as NHS nurses but the other benefits of being in more control of your own career far outweigh anything else.

I hope you find the right place for you, and if you want to chat more about it we could that when we get together in December.

I am going to be pretty much off line after the next couple of weeks so I will make sure you have my number before I vanish xx

Thing is I technically already have a degree, in education and music. Do I have to write a dissertation on the diploma? Because thats the one thing I truly struggled with on my degree.

In other news, I went to my first much tonight! There was me, my friend, another girl, the organiser and another dom, and we had a riot! We spent about 2 hours in the pub just talking about allsorts, then went back to the guy's house for a play session after, and we did alot of talking and looked at all the organiser's toys, then I got tied up!

So much fun.

The diploma course does not require a dissertation and really I couldn't see much else to choose between the two options besides funding. If you already have a degree then I don't think you'd get another set of student loans but (as far as I know) the NHS bursary is a separate thing and one has no bearing on the other. Entrance requirements are 5 A-C GCSE grades including English, maths and 1 science option. If you already have A-Levels and a degree though, this should be a moot issue.

Applications are now all done through UCAS, as for other courses so they should have all the info you need.

Yeah I'm going to call the nursing school on monday and get more info, find out if I'm too late to apply for the spring intake, which starts in January.

Lol, I know my first reaction today to seeing the cold wet rain and looking at my very active toddler was 'oh $££^&*&%$%':D

And her reaction was 'tell the rain to go away and not to come back another day' *snickers*

Harmony~ *hugs* and the trip sounds cool. I've lived here 4 1/2 years and I still haven't been to see hardly any of the things on my list in the UK to see. If you get to go to Ireland take lots of photos for us poor sods not getting to go. ;)
