The Truman Show

Well in either case it's on right now and I'm enjoying it...he's about to run the boat into the side of the dome...that's my favorite part...

Now that you're at the end tell me, do you think it would be better if it ended as soon as he steps through the door or do you like the few minutes of reaction shots after that?

Okay, sorry if you haven't seen this movie, but if you have: Don't you think that if you were going to do that to someone (put them in a big dome from the day they are born, fill them full of bullshit and make their entire life a gigantic parody) don't you think you would be original about it? Like instead of having him be an Average Joe with a completely normal (as normal as someone's entire existence can be) life, wouldn't you spice it up a little? Just wondering if I'm the only person that wouldn't half ass a perfectly decent opporunity to pull a brilliant mind fuck. (Not that I would ever do that to someone, it's horrible and I wouldn't...but still.)

Why? Most television shows aren't like that at all. There are of course your Beverly Hills 90210, or the OC, or Dallas. But most shows are just average people dealing with conflict in their lives. Id wager even shows about people in power like the West Wing have characters that deal with love & loss. I think people would resent watching a show where some guy is "handed the keys to the kingdon".

Oooo...I'd hate to say that I would rather them leave the reactions out because they DO add to the movie, but sometimes less is more and I've always been a sucker for sudden endings...it would've been artsy and really stuck with me if they just faded out when he went through the door.

That's exactly what I've always thought. The audience in the movie wouldn't know what happens, we shouldn't either.

You know, I have only met a small handful of people besides me who actually enjoyed this movie.

I haven't met very many people who have actually seen it, I was surprised.
