The Threat Of A Red Britain

The shit that Boris is facing right now demonstrates one of the major difference between our democracies. The pm mas limited power, can be ousted if enough politicians want it, and often need opposition party support to carry through major changes. Seriously, don't get your knickers in a twist about us swapping the jack for a hammer and sickle.

Our democracies are very similar in those respects.

The radical/anti-American and anti-Western left, like BoyNextDoor, just doesn't have the support here that they do in the UK.

Personally I'd love to see the UK go full progressive communist utopia.

TBH that is more of a USA construct than a reality. What kind of country, other than one obsessed with money sells its own dead elderly to its own army to blow up?

Righties really don't like democracy, do they? Boris tried to be a dictator and parliament fucked him. And we're watching the destruction of the Conservative party, which is quite fun. When the walking haystack expels the likes of Ken Clark and Fatty Soames, you know they've been taken over by a bunch of nutjobs.

I don’t think it’s the” right”.

Parliament voted to give the people the referendum, they chose to leave.

They said they respected the referendum result and invoked Article 50.

There was an election and elected a government with a mandate to leave.

Since then Parliament has done everything it can to thwart that happening and still it continues; Liberals, Conservatives, Labour, SDP. This is contempt for democracy, by people who see themselves as rule givers and not public servants.

Ironically, it seems only Johnson & co are intent to carry out the only mandate available. At this point I don’t see any other way than yet another election. But, of course now they don’t want that either. It needs someone to force the issue or we’re going to carry on for another 3 fucking years!

Woof!

Leaving with no deal wasn't on the ballot. Boris and Gove spent the entire campaign telling people we'd leave with a great deal and it would be a piece of piss.

You call it your Labour party....not a construct, very real.

Leaving with no deal wasn't on the ballot.

I didn't think there was a mandatory "Bend over and take it up the ass from the EU." qualifier either....awww so sad for the UK's leftist. :D

Ken Clark and Nicholas Soames are leftists? Phillip Hammond is a leftist? Fucking Oliver Letwin is a leftist? STFU, you moron, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Fuck me, Ken Clarke just called Boris a liar on the floor of the House.

So were that to occur would the UK cease to exist? Would the Queen have to stop vacationing in Scotland? Would there be a royal family if it was just England and no Kingdom?

There was a Royal Family and a Kingdom before the Union. Some Scots see Queen Elizabeth as Queen Elizabeth the First. as the first Queen Elizabeth was Queen of England, not Scotland.

The Queen could still vacation in Scotland. She is a landowner there, and not as Queen - just like President Trump owns a Scottish golf course.

If they absolutely insist the UK get catastrophically fucked up the ass by the EU in order to regain its sovereignty??

Most likely.

^^^ Still moar #TotallyNotHomo mental imagery from Lit's incel Welfare Queen.

Rob, desperately trying to use homosexuality as an insult without directly saying as much, while deriding me for my sexual orientation in the process.....suuuuuuuper progressive.

A little more rage and he'll be hurling racial slurs in no time :D

Yeah, Thatcher was famous for appointing leftists to her cabinet. This is why you're on ignore. Not just because you're a retard, but because you're a BORING retard.

It would probably just revert to being the Kingdom of Great Britain, which is what it was known as prior to the decision to end Ireland's smidgen of independence.

Like I've said before, the whole reason this is dragging on is that there was a majority for Brexit, but not necessarily a majority for all the things that would result from Brexit. The campaign tried to tell everyone that they could have all the good stuff about life in the EU and none of the hassle, and that is predictably proving impossible.

I actually do have some sympathy for the belief that this has to end, one way or the other. Brexit may be a ridiculous mistake, but democracies (or constitutional monarchies) have the right to make those once in a while, as I am reminded about 100 times an hour.

Yeppers, somehow it's my fault calling attention to your "up the ass" imagery.

#TotallyNotHomo nosiree.

Neither was leaving with a deal which is why the referendum was a bad idea in the first place and trick which lacked political responsibility .

And it’s an absurd negotiating position to say we will only leave with a deal. In that circumstance the EU would never negotiate in good faith and they haven't.

Parliamentarians cannot be that naïve, could they? I think we both know the majority don’t want to leave at all and this is what this is all about and why we're in a worse place than either in or out!

Woof!

Never said she was.

You have me on ignore because you can't effectively argue much of anything, all you can do is name call and shit talk and that fucking infuriates you.;)

A few posts above reinforce things I've read before ... that the whole mess was a huge misunderstanding or deliberate misinterpretation and that those voting to 'leave' weren't really given full information on the consequences and implications.

Personally, I think the EU is full of hooey however. They seem to think far to highly of themselves. Rather than being a unifying economic body, they seem to want to make rules and impose their will on others who may not agree, even those outside Europe altogether.

The referendum was purely and simply so the pig fucker could stop the right wing lunatics in his own party defecting to Farage.

Well it must end, one way or another. Where we are now is paralysis and living ground hog day with no end in sight and little else politically getting done.

I voted remain but accept we have to leave; it would be better if some others did the same. Be that with a deal or not, where we are is worse than either outcome.

Woof!

Well that and to fuck over Farage, which it did for a time.

Woof!

Botany, This really isn't a left/right issue. All parties are split. Some hard right want to stay, or leave with the deal. It was a Tory government leading the campaign to stay, and a Tory deal.

Parliament seems to have a majority against No Deal but NO majority for anything else. That is nonsense.

And just to make it all the more fucked up, Corbyn has been a Brexiter all his political life!!!

Lefties hate the EU as a neo-liberal corporate club. Tony Benn, my political hero, railed against it for decades.
