Isn't this the guy who also said, "Our purpose is peace. We have no military, political, or territorial ambitions in the area," and then proceeded to launch the U.S. into a long term 50,000 dead investment?

Actually John Kennedy started our involvement in Vietnam...

Johnson esculated it...

and Nixon finally got us out of there....

If you want to get picky about it, it was Eisenhower that started US involvement in Vietnam.

LBJ also said:

Prior to Johnson's esculation (sp) very few Americans knew French Indochina / Vietnam existed.

Kennedy was a hawk dupe. Nixon, hardly a savior. It took him almost four years (he let Kissinger purposely bungle peace) to get "us" out of there.

The understanding of Vietnam gets less and less as the years go by...
