Hi everyone,

I just wanted to see what you guys think about this speech by Ann Coulter. Has there ever been a better classic example of a super bitch?

At the annual Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday in Washington, Coulter said: "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I — so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards."

I know that I am just an old hippy but this woman seems to me to repersent everything that is wrong with our country.

That remark could be justification for a prosecution in the UK.

Who cares whether our Members of Parliament are straight, gay or celibate? As long as they are competent as representatives, they are acceptable.

We might object to their views on various topics, but not their sexual preferences.

Mikey,
Ann Coulter is one of the most intellegent and kind individuals in the entire world. She would never even think of stepping out of bounds in either the assessment or discriptions of anyone. This kind and gentle soul works across all party, ethnic and social lines for the betterment of all mankind. She's caring, giving and naturally soft spoken.

People crave her company and comfort because of the fine, tender person she is. It would not surprise me to see the Nobel Prize people giving her an awarde just on her wonder personality.

If you believe one word of this, you are a total dumb-ass. This bitch will write or say anything to make herself controversial because it's the only way she can sell her shoddy attempts at writing.

She has a product to sell, and she sells it successfully.

To many people, that's the only thing that matters.

Such is modern politics, Mikey. I really have no idea about the context or the whole speech, but I have noted PR and speech writers have always misunderstood the concept of debate. :)

I didn't even know who Ann Coulter WAS until I started hanging at Lit... :x (Nancy Grace either) I'm not sure what that says about me... I'm uninformed? Biased? Naive?

It seems crazy to me that people pay attention to her, though, at all? Opponents seem to give her even more attention than her admirers!

*scratching head*

I wish that it was the same over here. The rightwing nimcompoops who run our country have soiled their minds with putting down different groups in our country. It is like they think that if every group or speical interest has to attack everyone who thinks differently from them. So our goverment is more like a dog-cat fight then a reasoned debate. People who like and think like Ann Coulter are the reason that we have a prison in every county instead of one in every state like before the rise of the right wing.

I wish this woman could start selling her ass instead of her views. But then again it might be just as nasty.

I am really not sure that this is unusual?

I don't think that she would get the attention that she does if she wasn't a tall leggy blond, that looks like she might be a decent fuck. However I think that in real life, there is not enough sex appeal in the world to help get me past her closed and programmed mind.

I'd call her an attention whore, but I've heard that calling women whores is considered slur.

So I'll just call her an attention.

In a system like ours where people elect their leaders we owe it to ourselves to be aware of the trouble makers amonst us. If we don't take the time to mark them as stupid roadnoise on the highway of life then we run the risk of taking them serious. This kind of thing leads to situations like when the good people of germany elected Hilter.

We are responisble for what our goverment does because we el;ected them.
When we see our prisoners with bags on their heads and wires strung to their crotches, we are seeing our tax dollars at work. The right knows this so they use it to stop funding for abortion clinics. Why they can't apply the same reasoning to what our tax dollars do to the rest of the world is a puzzle to me.

How divided can 'united states' be?

How are we divided by the right? let me count the ways.
Christian against non christian is just the beginning, you could break it down to church against church if you wanted to.
Gay against hetro,
Old against young,
Rich against poor,
Division and hatred between races,
gender divisions,
Personal choices like drug use used to divide us.
To some in america everybody reading this is a prevert and should be controled.

Ever since The election of 1980 I have felt like a jew in germany in 1935 or so. I can feel the boot of the goverment on my neck.

Unless you had all your belongings confiscated, were humiliated, beaten up and abused and then transported to your death in the most base and degrading of ways? I am sure you can't relate to a Jew in Germany.

Nonetheless, I personally admire the questions we all have.

I doubt a Woodsworth sonnet reference is appropriate here.

As I stated - I do not know Coulter - and there is a greater world beyond the USA, you know?.

same old stuff,

coulter's vitriol has great appeal to the disillusioned right wingers.

it should be mentioned that Coulter and Limbaugh are the ones who do the dirty work for the Republican National Committee. they are not accountable in any way. she is used, just as the ranting Hitler was used, by certain interest groups who remain in the shadows and are thought to be respectable.

Fox and the slime brigade will be trying out various bits of sludge, like Obama's schooling, his middle name, etc. What backfires will be disowned by mainstream Republicans, and and what doesn't will be picked up and used by Romney Brownback, etc.

If I'm electing someone, then I do my research. If Coulter ran for office, or was actually in a position of power or trying to attain one, I might pay attention. *shrug* As it is, she isn't, and so she flies under my radar.

So did I! "Burning down the house" seem a little appropriate here?

I would tend to disagree with you a bit here, Og. The majority of people in the US don't care that much about a person's sexual preference, although they would draw the line at allowing gay marriage. There are several openly gay or lesbian persons in Congress, and they get reelected. There are some who consider homosexuality to be a form of perversion, but they are in a shrinking minority.

I expect the situation is much the same in the UK. Most people don't care much about the sexual preferences of others, but there are some who strongly oppose what they consider to be perversions. And they are a declining minority also.

By the way, is same-sex marriage legal in the UK?
