Construction eventually got me back to college.

Being behind a desk, dealing with clients, trying to overcome the I don't want any change attitude of their secretaries and just the stress of having to concentrate for hours on end to prevent the creation of bugs...

Yeah.

It got me back into a physical career path; that's no way for a real man to exist.

I just couldn't abide any more academia, really.

But I could do the workshops and certification classes very successfully.

Oh well, I've never been the most patient person, nor does it look like I ever will become one.

But I can be pretty fucking consistent.

My favorite philosopher, as you probably know well by now, was a blue collar type named Eric Hoffer. He was a voracious reader, used to be a migrant farm hand and became a longshoreman. Moving shit around gives you the freedom to think since it requires minimal brain power...

That background gets you away from the stupid shit like the idea that you cannot know what is real and what is your brain fooling you.

4AM and undergoing a freak cold spell...

;) ;)

It's all the way down to 75 which means the trailers will be under 100.

Yay me!

Happy Tuesday!!! It's just going to be hot all week - it's what it's going to do.

I still have to play inspect the truck later this week, but a friend will lend me his car to use in the interim, which was awfully nice of him. I really need my own second vehicle again.

Silly first-world problems stuff. Hey, gotta job!!!

Cuidado in the heat, Seenyore Gringo. Coca Cola and juice and other stuff isn't plain old water, and plain old agua is best

Sodas are diuretics and I am always faintly amused by the collection of mountain dews that my crew drinks. They're young, so I don't say anything and won't until they start to keel over...

Always...

My favorite phrase at work is, "This is a job for a young man, so get to it."

My second favorite is, "I have a strong mind and a weak back and your next task requires just the opposite."

:D

People look at me funny when I ask for water when soda is offered. Thirst is the body telling you need hydrogen and oxygen in a 2 to 1 ratio.

Well, as promised, it was cooler today than yesterday . . .

by one entire degree. It was in the 70s in Mexico City and Guatemala City. Chingadores!!!

I was glad to see that the new roofing crew is very diverse. They brought a couple of women with them. One of them is showing a baby bump. Give the girls credit, they hung with the guys. They got the leasing office building just about done today. But their gran jefe told me that he had told them that BB had to stay on the ground - no more climbing for her. That's okay, she can keep the area around the building tidied up and free of debris and nails . . . an' shit.

They brought some sodas, but they mostly drank gatorade and plain old water. Good for them

Soda is not a diuretic, the small amount of caffeine in a drink does is masked by the 12+ ounces of soda consumed, so your body still sees a net positive from soda insofar as hydration is concerned.

Soda is simply not as efficient at hydration as pure water.

I instinctively think this has to be more or less correct. The question is, how much caffeine stimulates a given amount of urine production.

I've thought the same thing in a bar, nursing a beer as two-fisted drinkers put down an astonishing amount of beer. I wonder how their kidneys, much less their livers can process all that liquid.

Something does not add up.

Hangovers are real, as is dehydration of people unable to stay hydrated while drinking straight soda. Could be there isn't enough capacity to process the water out of the beer or soda.

We are having a mild cooling trend dropping out of the 90s into the upper 80s. Humidity is still up and every afternoon features a thunderstorm. I think the Queen and Princess are heading up to St. Louie for the day while I pull and early shift.

Big stupid is outside barking at something, but it is a lazy, half-hearted bark, so it might just be the wind...

;) ;)

Happy Wednesday!!!

We got oodles of rain last night in the form of frog-strangling t-storms. The light show and ruckus continued as I went to bed. Falling asleep didn't happen for awhile - seems I was overhydrated.

There are more storms on the way for this afternoon, so says the weatherman. We'll see how today's roofing project goes. Silly wankers!!!

It's 61 on the way to 75 today in Mexico City, and 64 going to 80 in Guatemala City. What are we doing wrong? ;)

John Kerry says it's our air-conditioners.
