There was a restaurant I used to frequent. The waitress was one of those almost transparent blondes, she was so blonde. There was no doubt that the carpets matched the drapes.

I saw the wee sticker on the cash register drawer one day and asked her, "does that really say, 'hello klitty'?"

She just smiled slyly and nodded affirmatively.

In this country we embrace the myth that we are still a democracy when we know that we are not a democracy, that we are not free, that the government does not serve us but subjugates us. Although we give lip service to the notion of freedom, we know the government is no longer the servant of the people but, at last has become the people's master. We have stood by like timid sheep while the wolf killed, first the weak, then the strays, then those on the outer edges of the flock, until at last the entire flock belonged to the wolf. We did not care about the weak or about the strays. They were not a part of the flock. We did not care about those on the outer edges. They had chosen to be there. But as the wolf worked its way towards the center of the flock we discovered that we were now on the outer edges. Now we must look the wolf squarely in the eye. That we did not do so when the first of us was ripped and torn and eaten was the first wrong. It was our wrong.

Love those posts...

There's are remixes of Reverend Niemöller, Pulp Fiction, Electricity for Dummies, Hillary's Guide to Yoga on the beach and Azaleas!

Our Crepe Myrtles are beginning to burst out, beginning with my very privileged white bush, followed closely by the reds and pinks and replacing the hostas and other flagging indicators of the late spring bloom. I'm trying to identify the plant which I let take over my garden, but it is in full bloom!

The hostas are wrapping up their bit of bloomage for the year.

The new cat seems content to be sitting on the kitchen table and to growl at the old cat occasionally.

A woman friend got three handguns from her parents and asked me to clean them, so I am. One is a Ruger Security Six - not pink - and the other is a Colt 1903, which seems to have been made about 1912. The recoil spring seems to be a bit bent, which may be contributing to its balky operation.

I really should take them both out and run a box of ammo through them when I'm done. :D

Is she a lifeguard with those new floatation devices we've heard so much about?

Is it still possible to replace the spring?

;)

I need to remind the Queen to rotate her magazines...

PS - the Asian lilies are just finishing up too, and the best thing about this time of year is that with the humidity and calm air, it just freaking perfumes the entire landscape.
