best seller removed...

I genuinely hope that you took the opportunity to read my Xmas story:

Egg Nogged Family

If you weren’t one of the 55,000+ who did or one of the 700+ who took the time to vote I’m afraid you soon won’t be able to read it here on LITEROTICA.

I asked that the story be removed from the site last night. If you wish to read it you’ll now have to go to the other site.

WHY? Well as many of know I’ve been unhappy with what’s been happening with voting in the SPECIAL CONTESTS over the last 14 months or so. For the 2007 Halloween Contest MANU changed the way he swept votes from contest entries – instead of just sweeping double votes and obvious “bad” votes (whatever they are) he instituted a system whereby any vote (whether legitimate or not) that came from a list of people he didn’t like were swept away.

Over a period of five contests my stories (and apparently those of some others) lost 65% to 75% of their votes. Two stories which would today be members of the 1000+ VOTE CLUB were savaged and now languish 4-500 votes short of enshrinement.

I sat out of the 2008 HALLOWEEN CONTEST in protest but did enter the HOLIDAY CONTEST when I’d been assured the system had been fixed.

IT HASN’T! Some 500+ of my voters were disenfranchised this time.

Others have also reported huge percentage losses. Mr. Heat seems to often be in the same boat as I. Even one of the winners reported he lost some 170 votes (leaving some 200 odd – a huge percentage loss).

I don’t enter these contests with any expectation of victory (I’m smarter than that!) – instead I enter them for fun (and certain clauses in my ROYALTY contract) but this disenfranchising of my readers has got to the point where all the enjoyment I once got from these contests is gone. The strange thing is my scores hardly change after these sweeps – invariably my score is within one or two hundredths of where they were before the sweep.

I hate to take a “best seller” down but I know if I don’t I’ll get pissed off every time I open my story or submission pages and see it. It’ll remind me of the poor bastards whose votes were simply thrown away. So in their memory I’m throwing the story away.

It’s time for reform my dear QUEEN!

I’m james r scouries, and I approve this message…

Dolphins always run fair contests…

p.s. ace: while the transparency comment may be directed at you too, both gabby and i once had specific references to it in our signature lines - in fact i think dear gabrielle still has it...

If it isn't YOU doing the proxy voting... something I might almost believe, given that you can't even figure out how to put a picture into a post :D ...

I wonder if someone is just proxy voting your stories just to mess with your head? Just to annoy you, and watch your face fall when the votes are taken away?

Ahhhh the conspiracy theories continue...........

:cattail:

only from a mind like yours would this idea spring..

Of course it’s possible miss k :p. The thought has crossed my paranoid mind. darkboy  or mr tex :nana: hunched over their computers, robotically voting in the dark as their free hand works to release the sexual tension the latest scouries tale has induced in them. Placing a vote each time they pump their shafts. In fact maybe they attach a string to their cockheads so that it’s their pricks that place these nefarious votes. YUCK! Isn’t that a disgusting thought! And even if true would their prematurely discharging organs have enough time to register more than a couple of votes? I think not!

It also should be noted that others do seem to be reporting the same loss of votes (mr heat, our friend from the bog etc.).

Secondly, it should be noted that I have nine 1000+ VOTE stories that go merrily on their way accumulating votes. They lose the odd vote in these sweeps but not very many.

Finally the number crunchers at ScouriesWorld have developed some pretty sophisticated mathematical models to predict VOTE totals on any given story. Taking into account diverse factors such as category, author, day of the week the story debuted, views, comments received, month, whether a contest entry or not, etc. etc., it has proven to be able to predict vote totals for a new story to within + or – 5%.

Quite simply, EGG NOGGED FAMILY got fucked. Some might even say it was ROYALLY FUCKED!

But beyond the issue of this story is the larger question: Other than for the reason of double (or multiple penis voting) why would any vote be swept away? If anyone wants to vote on one of my stories, no matter what vote he or she wants to give me, I say go ahead. The great benefit of having stories that regularly accumulate over 500 votes is that one or two or five low votes (or high votes) doesn’t have much of an effect on the overall score.

The site (and we authors) should be working to encourage more voting… not less which seems standard for so many of these contest entries.

p.s. I would have posted pictures on this thread long before now if a certain “expert” hadn’t given Gabby completely erroneous directions. We are now in the process of hiring a new (and competent) V.P. Imaging.

You don't have to ask for it to be removed. You can delete it yourself.

That wouldn't include you, though, would it? They can't like you so much that they pay royalties for your stories at the same time as disliking you so much they'd put your stories on a stop list, now would they? When all else fails, there's always common sense to fall back on.

:cattail:

You want a more realistic conspiracy theory

How about scouries using his tenth grade voting bot and 103 ISP's on other peoples stories so he isn't the only one losing 500 to 700 votes per story. It sure makes people wonder and that's what he wants. Hate and discontent are his hallmarks. That and a three hundred pound ego.

Oh and scouries, next time you hire a computer guru, make sure he's graduated high school and hasn't pirated your voting bots off the internet. Hacker sites don't post the good stuff with isp blockers and back sweepers.

QUOTE LAUREL :cattail: 1) The winter holidays contest is a "Readers' Choice" contest - not a "Contest Judged by a Panel of People of Whose Opinions I Approve". This is the case with all Literotica contests - and has been since the site began 10 years ago.

2) If those looking for 'transparency" in the voting are waiting for us to publicly discuss how the fraud vote system works - so that every troll and troublemaker can get tips on how to circumvent it - then they will have a long, long wait. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all who participated!

First off I’d just like to welcome you to the discussion. While we don’t always agree I feel any of these discussions about the site are always better and more informative for your presence.

As to your point #1 – Nonsense! A so called “Readers’ Choice” contest implies that our readers choose the winners. It demands that those running the contest publish the results for every story at the end of the contest.

I’ve repeatedly asked over the last two years that you publish the number of VIEWS and VOTES as well as the RATING for every story entered in these contests. You refuse to!

Why? We all know the reason – Once you publish the figures the whole sham will be exposed. No one who sees that a winning monthly contest story only received 25 votes and 3,000 views or that a Special Contest story received 52 votes and 4,200 views will believe the winners are “Readers’ Choices”. Not when they see them compared with stories that receive hundreds of votes and tens of thousands of views.

Just publish the results ma’am – all of them. For every story. Every vote. Every view. Their ratings. If the winners are the “readers’ choices” it will be obvious to all. And if the winners aren’t that will be obvious too.

As to your point #2 – I assume this “transparency” line is directed at me so have no hesitation in answering. You’re clearly trying to misstate my position.

I have no interest in (nor would understand) how you detect so-called “fraud” votes.

Instead, what interests me is what the site defines as a “legal” vote and what it defines as a “fraudulent” one.

Any voting system under which those in power can throw out any vote they disagree with without even explaining what the basis for their actions is illegitimate. LITEROTICA simply emulates the Banana Republics, the Haiti’s and Zimbabwe’s of this world.

You’ve lost all credibility with this last minute tossing of thousands of votes with no explanation.

Furthermore I hate your use of the terms “troll” and “troublemaker” in characterizing people who you think should be disenfranchised. In true free societies we don’t disenfranchise “troublemakers”. Names like “trolls” and “troublemakers” almost invariably are applied to those not in power – those who disagree with the elites - in our case at LITEROTICA they’re used almost exclusively by the small inner coterie of smug AHers to describe almost anyone who disagree with them.

You seem unwilling to even tell us what a fraudulent vote is my dear QUEEN. FYI here’s my two cents worth - I believe every single “READER” should have the right to vote – ONCE and only ONCE. I believe he or she should have the right to vote whatever they want – 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5. And have their vote count! ONCE!

As to the winners of this contest I’m sorry I can’t join you in congratulating them. I have no idea how many votes or views they received. I have no idea what rating they received. Only you know. I know you kept some votes and threw out others. I have no idea if you favor your friends or not when you massage the vote totals. But I do know that ninety percent of your winners over the past two plus years bear no relation to what are our “readers’ choices”. And you know it too!

Interesting theory--but I don't actually lose many votes in a contest. I'd have to wonder why Scouries would overlook my stories.

You are too close to this thread and other threads. He wants random people with a few of the quieter AH people thrown in. If her hit me or you it would be to close to home in his way of thinking.

Ya gotta remember big guy – Business is Business! And it’s not my stories they put on the stop list – it’s specific voting individuals (and yes it includes me). Every vote that listed individuals make is eventually removed. Even votes they made before they got on the list. Ask MANU if you don’t believe me (I’d suggest you feed him a few drinks before you get to the tough questions, he’s pretty close mouthed before he’s had a couple of stiff shots).

Do you really think a twenty-five time best seller, an author of the most commented on story and most voted on story of all time, a nine time 1000+ VOTE club member, has time to worry about other authors’ stories?

And what are these ISP guys you’re always talking about?

Doesn't require a computer expert. All you have to do is read the directions provided on the site.

Just resubmit your story with "DELETE" in the title line. To be sure you could put this in the comments box too. Looking forward to you successfully getting it out of the collection. :)

Why, yes, yes I do. Career journalism since 1974; royalty fiction since 1992. So, do you write?

Oh and Scouries, those ISP's, they lead to such interesting places. Neither one of which are Miami or Pittsburgh. Should I name the real PLACE? No, that wouldn't be ethical or right.

Have a nice day, if that's possible being you

QUOTE darkboy It's the internet. There is no way to give "every reader one vote and one vote only"… Defining what is a legal or fraudulent vote is exactly the same thing as saying how the system detects such votes.

No its not! Clearly telling the reading public at the end of every story that they are only allowed to vote once on each story (and that if they vote more than once every vote they cast will be removed) doesn’t tell them anything about how the system catches them.

QUOTE darkboy If you say "Votes from the same IP are swept" then cheaters know to use a proxy.

If you say "Votes cast without adequate time to read the story, even for a speed reader" then cheaters know to linger on each page for a few minutes before voting.

If you say "Votes cast from major proxies are swept" then cheaters know to use one of the umpteen lesser known proxies floating around that usually only serve a small community.

Any description of the criteria used in the sweeps is the same thing as throwing the code into a post with footnotes explaining how it all works. All you do is make cheating easier.

It doesn’t sound very easy to me! I don’t even know how someone votes twice – my computer certainly doesn’t let me.

Nor do I (or I suspect most of our readers) have any idea what an IP, a robot or major or lesser proxies are.

But again you miss the real point. My belief isn’t that these endless “sweeps” are finding fraudulent votes, instead it’s that most of the votes that are being swept away are legitimate votes. Made by legitimate readers.

I don’t for an instant believe that half the votes mr heat or boggy received were fraudulent. Nor do I believe that 65% of my votes were fraudulent.

Instead I believe that for every so-called fraudulent vote swept away ten legitimate ones are also.

If there is some system that can identify people who vote more than once and remove these “extra” votes without also removing as many legitimate votes I’m all for it. If I read your post correctly you’ve said even this is impossible.

All other votes I’d accept. Hell I start stories every day on LITEROTICA that I click away from after 500 or 1000 words because I think they’re terrible. Are you suggesting a reader who hates a story shouldn’t be able to vote on it unless he’s read the whole thing?

NUTS!

QUOTE No Dice As Laurel said, they are not about to give specifics as to how the system works. Isn't it about time that people accept what she has said and stop being fucking arseholes? It's one thing to discuss or even debate certain issues. It's another to make indirect accusations that are impossible to even try to defend.

Another of the palace toadies talks! And which issues are we allowed to “discuss or debate” my dear? One of the great impediments to any kind of serious discussion on this site is that LAUREL hides behind you old timers – sending you people out to stifle any new idea.

“Indirect accusations”? I believe there have been some very direct accusations. Like the contests are fixed.

“Impossible to even try to defend”? What crap. Define what a legal vote is. Report accurate results for every story. Explain how poor, little read stories suddenly jump into the winners circle as “Readers Choices” when everyone knows they aren’t. Engage in discussion and not pontification.

That's because you live in an isolated, fantasy land bubble where clicks are sales, and the people who pay your imaginary royalties are out to get you.

The reality is that even if 99% of people were as clueless as you, the remaining 1% could screw things up beyond all comprehension. That 1% is the bunch that can use any information provided about the criteria of the sweeps to do anything they want, circumventing any controls because they were told exactly how to do it.

You don't understand Dark. That's what he wants. He wants everyone to know how to get around the sweeps. His shit don't work anymore and he's at a loss to get anything that does. He also wants the whole contest system torn down. If he can't cheat and win, then no one will win at all. He's an egomaniac of gigantic proportions.

In the end, his real goal is to try to drag Laurel into the mud with him. The ultimate goal of any internet slimeball is to drag the leadership/ownership into a knock-down drag-out so they can scream indignantly about the cruel treatment of "the little guy" with something to link in their signatures and post in a thousand other places.

Seeing him fail miserably at that brings a smile to me face :D *laugh*

It's even better that everyone is pretty much warned about him as a matter of course upon stepping foot in the forums, so he doesn't even get much sustenance that way.

Scouries World is getting to be a lonely little circle-jerk for him, his blow-up doll, and the other puppets in the Land of Make Believe :D
