In "The Making of the President 1960" (Theodore White) the case is presented that Nixon lost the debate with Kennedy because he used this shit on his face called "Lazy Shave." It was suppose to cover his five o'clock shadow but served to make him appear darker and sinister in the eyes of some, especially on black and white TV.
