This whole thread began with a misleading assumption. She possibly kept her maiden name because she began in law and politics under it and it would be messy and complicated to change it, though it could have also been for feminist reasons. I can't say for sure. You'd have to ask her about it, if you could get past her security to do so. I am guessing that you are a Chinese national, currently living in China, and probably would have some difficulty doing that.

I'm speaking of what her legal name is. Legally, her name is Kamala Devi Harris. Mrs. Harris would imply that her husband's surname was Harris, which it isn't. The OP seems to assume that his legal surname is the same as hers. At this point, it's likely a moot point, since she is Vice-President Harris and may very well soon be President Harris. I am simply correcting an inaccurate assumption. One thing that irritates me is false information or misinformation, which the OP is evidently spreading here, intentionally or not. Financially, Harris made sense, because that way, the DNC could keep the funds. Demographically, she also made sense. It's very hard to dump a woman of color for someone else, especially a white man, without giving a very obvious reason that they couldn't provide. But I see a possibility: China could try to take Taiwan as a hostage to force the US to continue buying Chinese products so it can also buy Taiwanese higher tech products. But China would still be screwed with a falling birthrate, dependence on imported resources, and basically everything that goes wrong in the last years of a dictatorship dynasty.

I would tend to agree. It's mostly posturing. Xi is far more pragmatic than Putin. He can afford to be. He can't afford not to be, in fact. He wants to trade with both Russia and the USA, establish China as the dominant economy in the world, and sure up his shaky domestic situation ahead of the demographic time bomb that he faces. That would give him some cushion for the full shocks when they arrive.
