The Ranch... Open..

"Great!" Carolyn was glad and not just about exploring but that Penny would go too. It helped to feel more at home to have a friend around. "I'm glad you can stay Penny, but not just because you're a great help. It really feels better, more homey, when friends are around."

Carolyn smiled and the two went about with lunch.

occ: I'm off to bed 'Penny', again, it's been fun at the ranch.

Penny smiled widely, her mood much improved.

Friends. Yes, she had friends, even though she hadn't even known them a full day. It was strange, because there were people in Manhattan she had known most of her life, who she didn't really know. And wouldn't have considered friends, as she did Carolyn and these others.

"Well after we clean up lunch, then we'll figure out where we can explore."

"Don't know that job is the right word but if you'll put me up for a few days i'll earn my keep...manual labour isn't the sort i'm un used to."

He paused, waiting to see George's repsonse to his semi commitment...a man's as good as his word was his personal belief but it was hard to let a stranger into your house when you didn't know him from Adam.

George listens to Roger weighing what he has to say.

“So what your saying is you’ll earn your keep for a few days, but you don’t want a job and you’ve an aversion to manual labour. What kind of labour to you expect to find on a ranch, rounding up livestock, branding, clearing the stables and cowsheds, repairing fences and a multitude more, which would you class as non manual labour.” George asked.

George had to find out what this guy was offering before he made any decision he knew that Sam was watching him, but he’d met this type of guy before, and knew he had to make Roger give a commitment or he’d do nothing while he was around the ranch. Normally once they’d made the commitment these guys made very good hands.

Sam

I watched the two converse, silently comparing the two men. Roger stood taller then what George did. But the height didn't have any thing on George, he stood there proud and doing his job well.

I couldn't help smiling, something about George made me feel safe when he was around. I knew if I ever really needed him he would be there to watch over me and protect me. And although he hadn't shown it I thought that maybe he liked me. But at the same time it confused me, sense he hadn't made any sort of move towards showing or letting me know this fact.

Either way George not only made me feel safe but when he was near I felt the stirrings of need. I wondered what it would be like to have him hold me close, to feel his lips pressed to mine. I would almost bet he had a sexy voice when he was arroused.

ooc : i still dont have my glass's but i am braving the puter screen long enough to post. Wish me luck *grins*

Kathrein smiled at Josh as he held ButterCup's reain's for her and mounted up, Waving back to Sam, and George, and Tim as they left to begin taking care of their tasks for the day. Taking her reains back from Josh she waited for him to mount his horse.

Well how do you want to do this? I think we should start with the horse's for today most of them have brands already so it wont take long to do the one's without. Do you want me to bring them in one at a time while you get things ready?, or do you want me to get things ready while you bring them in? Kat asked looking over at Josh to see what he thought.

As they rode together over to the pen's to look over the horse's, Kat smiled thinking that things were indeed turning around for the better. Most of the horses were in the pens still frim Mr. O'Connor's men rounding them up the day before, save for the few scraggler's that Sam would be bringing in with her.

as Josh mounts up and rides beside Kat she asks Well how do you want to do this? I think we should start with the horse's for today most of them have brands already so it wont take long to do the one's without. Do you want me to bring them in one at a time while you get things ready?, Josh decides to see how she handles herself so he replies 'ill get the fire and the irons ready while you bring them in one at a time' as they reach the pens he dismounts and gets the charcoal and the branding irons from the pack horse and builds a fire and lets it burn down to the hottest coals and sticks the irons in and waits for Kat to bring over the first horse

Kat nodded and pointed out the empty pen to Josh letting him know she would bring the horse's to him there one at a time.

Riding her horse over to the pen with the horse's in it she dismounted and tethered her horse outside of the pen. Taking her rope that was hanging from her saddle she climbed the fence and slipped down inside so as not to startle the horses to much and looked for one without a brand.

Finding one a gray dapple with a white mane she walked slowly twords them talking to them as she made a lasso out of the rope and begain spinning it slowly working it up above her head letting it fly as the horse's begain to run around the pen.

Missing the first couple of time's on her third try she mannaged got the lasso around the horse's neck she was after. The mare reared her front legs in the air, and Kat still held onto the rope making sure to stay clear of her hooves, and stayed calm as she talked to it. Easy girl its alright easy now...... Thats it .. Thats a gril..

Smiling as the horse calmed and lead she lead her over twords the gate. Easing it open leading the horse thru and closing the gate behind them to keep the other's horse's in.

Kat walked the horse over to the empty pen and nodded to Josh seeing that he had everything ready, and lead the horse in. Teathering the gray dapple with the rope to the far side of the pen she walked over and closed the gate, then came back to holed the rope and keep the horse steady, and had another rope ready to use another to hold the horse's hide leg so she didnt kick Josh when he branded her. Looking at Josh she smiled and said. I'll pull her leg up when your ready...

As I finish up in the office I look at my desk to make sure I have taken care of everything before I leave on a two week vacation.

I happen to come accross something that I need to give to Samantha Renolds and stopped to think about mailing it.Just then I had remembered that she had said something about going back to the ranch in Montana.
So instead of mailing it I thought I could just take it to her i was going there anyway to take my two weeks away.It had been 4 years since i took my last vacation and I was due for a good one besides maybe I could get some ridding lessons while I am there.
Ok now that I have got everything together I put the the stuff in my bag and head for home.I will have enough time to grab a quick bite to eat and a shower before I have to go to the airport.
After getting out of the shower I put on a a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and out the door I went.I the cab pulled into the airport i could not wait to get inside and get on the plane and start my time off.My flight was great and I loved looking out the window of the plane such a great veiw I even got to take a short nap and rest a bit.
After getting off the plane my first stop after getting a cab was to see Samantha. As I get into the cab I tell the cab driver that I need to get to Renolds Ranch please. The drive was great i love to look at the sites as you drive somewhere new for the first time.
As we get to the front gate at the ranch I got out of the cab payed him and made my way up the driveway.I seen some people milling about and stopped one and asked if they knew where i could find Samantha Renolds.he said she was not there at that time so I then asked if it would be ok for me to wait there for her.

good Josh replies as he grabs the white hot branding iron and looks over at kat and say you ready? then he sticks the white hot steel iron against the horses flank and brands her before putting the iron back into the fire to heat up again the branding goes smoothly with Kat roping the horses and Josh branding them soon they had all of them branded and back into their original pen

Tim looked up from where he was sitting on the porch as a cab pulled up, and a rather attractive and well dressed woman stepped out and walked over. She asked where Sam was, but Tim didn't know, but knew she was not around the ranch.

She then asked if she could wait. Tim smiled at her.

"Sure you can wait. Follow me" He picked up one of her bags and walked into the ranch, heading for the kitchen where Ket was most likley to appear after she got back. "I'm Tim, by the way. I'm kinda new here"

Roger stood with his head slightly cocked to the side listening as George carried on. His hand came up and touched his hat slightly. He was a man of few words usually.

“So what your saying is you’ll earn your keep for a few days, but you don’t want a job and you’ve an aversion to manual labour. What kind of labour to you expect to find on a ranch, rounding up livestock, branding, clearing the stables and cowsheds, repairing fences and a multitude more, which would you class as non manual labour.” George aske

"Actually sir...Ai think you mis-heard me...manual labour is not something i'm un-used to....meaning I'm used to mucking in where i'm needed....you give me directions and i'll follow them in 'change for a bed and place to wash." He paused, "I'll find miy own food if needs be."

He watched George again now, wondering how he's respond to that, glancing at the lady and noting the subtle signs of admiration she had for him. His stance was not one of disrespect but it was one of confidence, he knew what he could do and he knew his own worth. He placed his back pack in front of him, "I don't require much space."

George

Looking at the horses that Sam has on a lead he walks over and unties one of them its as big as sheba so it should be able to carry Roger.

"Can you ride?" he asks Roger. "If so get on this one, I'm sorry there's no saddle but we weren't expecting you," George adds grinning. "We'll find a space in the bunk house for you," he grins at Roger.

"Mount up Sam," George says blowing her a kiss as she looks at him.

He mounts Sheba and waits for Roger to mount the horse he'd picked out.

"Mount up Sam," If it hadn't been for George's blown kiss my way I would have thought that he was upset with something by the way he was acting. Instead he had caught me off guard sending warmth to flood my face leaving me speechless. As I calmly mount Damion, watching George out of the corner of my eye wondering what I had missed.

Giving Roger a reassuring smile before turning back to look at George catching him watching me with a strange look upon his face. I could feel my face burn even hotter with my blush. Here I had just been thinking about him and what it would be like and now George was blowing kisses my way. I knew I was grinning from ear to ear over the whole thing.

"Shall we get back to the ranch, we're going to late for lunch and I promised Carolyn that I would be back in time for it." Sending George another long appraising look I head Damion towards the ranch.

George

George nearly laughs out loud when he see the look on Sam's face after his blown kiss to her.

As Sam sets off towards the ranch he follows wondering if she really does care for him, they've only know each other for less than twenty four hours, he was sure it was too soon to know. He knew that they needed to talk but since he'd arrived they'd only had minutes alone together with no chance to talk.

He lets Sheba follow Damion watching to make sure that Roger is following. He is looking forward to lunch as much as Sam is.

Michael O'Connor's directions served Anna well and she got back to the ranch without any difficulty. She arrived a little bit after Carolyn and Penny had put lunch out.

"Hi Carolyn; looks like you've already had a busy day. I can lend you a hand with cleanup."

"Hello Penny." She waved at the pretty redhead.

Anna didn't eat much. She was pensive. She knew that she was ignoring some big issues and that eventually she was going to have to look at them. She'd essentially left her job, husband, and life. The odd thing was she didn't feel any sense of loss. If anything, she felt free. She knew that she could pretend this was just a vacation but in truth she was not certain if she'd go back. Things would have to change tremendously if she did.

John was having an affair. Anna was certain. She was also pretty certain that it wasn't his first. She'd been ignoring it for quite some time. Why? Why had she settled for such a whitewashed, monochrome life?

She kept thinking about Michael O'Connor. She hoped that she would get to see him again.

Anna sighed. There was too much to figure out. After lunch, she grabbed her composition book and headed outdoors. She found a shady spot under one of the trees not too far fromt the stables and began to write.

Once Anna...er, Mrs. Kent was gone, Michael went back to the office and waited impatiently for Dr. Cortland to arrive. Once the boss was back, Michael said a quick hello and goodbye, then left.

He hurried to the grocery store and carrying a tomato box with his purchases inside. O'Connor jumped in his pickup, "MUST wash this soon," and drove out of town.

When he arrived at the road leading past the Renolds to his brother's place, Michael turned off and headed to his neighbors' ranch. "Quite a crowd," he thought. "Hope I brought enough for everyone."

He parked the truck and got out to fetch the box from the bed. He walked up to the front porch and knocked.

OOC:
Hate to knock and run, but I will be off and on this evening and tomorrow AM. I will have more consistent time tomorrow. Don't let me hold anyone up. I do think I will have time for another round tonight.
Appearance reminder: 5'10", fit but not big, jeans, boots, no hat this time, white heavy shirt. ~30, brown hair, brown eyes. Kind of boyish looking. Sounds Montana all the way when he speaks. Carrying a tomato box.

"Can you ride?" he asks Roger. "If so get on this one, I'm sorry there's no saddle but we weren't expecting you," George adds grinning. "We'll find a space in the bunk house for you," he grins at Roger.

Roger resisted saying anything and quietly and confidently swung himself upon his ride, undoing the belt that had kept his long coat tied tight so that it might hang loosely about him, he almost looked like the typical image of an old outlaw. He noted the smile from Sam and returned it briefly before he cast his gaze round about at the scenery and the house they were heading to.

It was a peaceful place, he felt it would be easy to relax here and easier still to forget the former things that had taken place. His strong thighs held tightly to the horse as he rode bare back and he gave into the rythm of the movement, becoming one with the animal, his eyes closing slightly as he listened to the sound of the wind, the breath of the horses, the gently chattering of human voices and dull thuds rumbling in the distance...and then the low growl of his stomach...yes lunch would be most satisfying.

George

Once George is sure that Roger is following him he gives Sheba her head and catches up to Sam and Damion.

"Tim and I have cleared the trail, do you know if Penny is going to learn as well as Anna?" he asked Sam as he rode alongside her giving her a big smile.

He was ready for his lunch as well but knew he'd have to see Roger settled before they could join the rest in the kitchen to eat.

Roger rode behind the others. Watching, listening, learning. He patted the horse on the side of its neck while getting a feel for the terrain around them. After all the travelling he had done in the last year it would be nice to call a place 'home.' Perhaps he might stay longer, depending on how the others responded to his presence. He had no qualms about leaving within the week if that was the way things turned out but yes...a permanent bed, good hygienic conditions and no need to worry about where the next pay check would arrive from; It did appeal to him.

Sam

"No, I.. I'm sorry I have no clue as of yet. I did not think to ask them I was more worried about getting the horses first." I was still a bit confused over George's blown kiss not that I minded but now I seemed to be tongue tied whenever he was near. As if I was worried that he could read my thoughts and it was more embarressing that I just couldn't get the thought of him out of my mind.

Tom had never affected me like this so it was new to me, I wasn't what someone would call a new virgin but to know the delights one could recieve from a man. Well Tom hadn't actually taken the time with those sorts of things but more to the point.

"I have high hopes for our trip around the fences I was thinking that we should be able to leave in about three hours. Four tops depending on how things are going at the ranch and if we can get things together before then."

I know I was rambling just to have something to say, but there seemed to be a lot I wanted to say to George but now was not the time nor the place. But I had this feeling that soon we would have our chance to talk.

Looking back over my shoulder to Roger I see him looking about us taking in the sights of the ranch. His eyes constantly scanning those about him which reminded me of a hawk, always knowing what was happening about him but not allowing it to affect him. "I hope you enjoy your time with us, maybe you will even decide to stay." Giving Roger a quick smile before turning back to look once more at George.

Roger noted the examination that was taking place...at least that was how he classed it, but he paid it no attention, prefering instead to play ignorant, if she wanted to figure him out it would take her probably longer than her life.

When she spoke to him he decided against answering when he saw her turn back to George...perhaps he would decide to stay, if that was how friendly they were it couldn't hurt anything could it?

He thought a moment about Sam...either she liked talking, and there was nothing wrong with that, or she liked George or both. He was a good judge of human character on the whole and he was fairly positive about his latest suppositions. His stomach growled again bringing him back to the immediate present...how long would it be until he could eat. Not wanting to be rude he didn't want to ask his hosts.

OOC:
I will be out of town all day Saturday and Sunday. If O'Connor is left on the doorstep, he will just leave, figuring everyone is just busy. He is "going to Helena on business" for a couple days after the current day of the story in any case.

I will be off and on for the next hour or so.

George listened to what Sam said smiling at her, when she mentioned riding the fences his heart gave a jump, they were going to finally get some time together without interference.

"I'm looking forward to our trip, I want to get to know you and I'm sure you want to get to know me as we're going to be working together getting the ranch into shape," George said smiling at her.

"I'll show Roger to the bunk house then we'll join you for lunch. After lunch I'll get a pack horse and get it loaded ready for us to leave," he suggested giving her a wink and a smile.

As they arrived at the ranch george turned to Roger.

"Well stable the horses and I'll show you to the bunk house where you can drop your gear, then we'll go to the ranch kitchen and get something to eat. Our cook does a good spread so I hope you're hungry, he told Roger.

"We'll join you in a little while," he said to Sam blowing her another kiss, he like the effect it had on her.

Marcus acknowledged the request from George. "Where are the stables?" He questioned before proceeding with the request.

"Starving." Came the simple reply to the food statement. "Nothing better than a fine table full of food." He looked over the house. From the outside it seemed fairly attractive and well cared for, he was sure it was a sign of the condition of the inside as well.

"Where's the bunk house?" He asked plainly.

Since no one answered, Michael figured they were out around the ranch buildings somewhere. There were cars out front to suggest folks were at home. He shrugged and went around the side of the house. There he could see a couple men and a woman talking (George, Marcus, Sam).

"Howdy, folks. Sorry to interrupt. I'm sort of a neighbor, Michael O'Connor, and I wanted to come say hello. I brought some pie," he said, nodding towards the tomato box.
