good Josh replies as he grabs the white hot branding iron and looks over at kat and say you ready? then he sticks the white hot steel iron against the horses flank and brands her before putting the iron back into the fire to heat up again the branding goes smoothly with Kat roping the horses and Josh branding them soon they had all of them branded and back into their original pen

After doing six more horses in much the same mannor Kat called a hault smiling and suggested they take a break. Looking out over the pastures Kat could see George and Sam as well as someone in a long duster heading in, and wondered who the stranger was. Hearing a car she looked twords the house and noticed Tim helping a lady into the house, and looking back at Josh wondering what he was thinking.

After leading the last horse over to the pen with the others, she remounted ButterCup and met Josh at the gate of the empty pen. Nodding twords Sam and the others then twords the Cab now leaving she grined at Josh as he mounted his horse, and said. Looks like we have more company.. Shall we go see who our new arrvials are? Then we can come back and finnish up the last few horse's.

Glancing twords the bunk house Kat new she would have to talk to George about having it cleaned out sometime today so that the Ranch hands could sleep there insted of at the house with the guests.

As Josh mounts his horse and joins Kat at the gate he hears her say 'Looks like we have more company.. Shall we go see who our new arrvials are? Then we can come back and finnish up the last few horse's.

'Yes ma'am lead the way boss lady' He replies then adds ;Shall we go see who the stranger is with George? He appears to be riding bareback then go grab some lunch?

Catching my breath once more with George's blown kiss, feeling myself blush even brighter if that could be possiable. Smiling back to George, dropping my eyes trying to think of something to say. Just barely getting out, "Ok you two I will see you inside when your done. I'll let Carolyn know that we have another person to add to our growing list of mouths." Laughing softly before giving them both a warm smile, hoping that neither of the men notice that my face is on fire once more.

Turning I see a man, that looks something like the neighbor but a younger version of him. Placing a smile upon my face I wait for him to join us, "Howdy, folks. Sorry to interrupt. I'm sort of a neighbor, Michael O'Connor, and I wanted to come say hello. I brought some pie." His nod indicates the box that he is holding before him.

"Hi, I'm Samantha Renolds," extending my hand to the man then I realize that his hands are full with the box. Smiling an apology I take back my hand, putting it down at my side before continuing to talk. "Michael O'Connor? Aren't you the new vet assistant? I was planning on coming and visiting with you today. Here lets get that inside and I'll tell ya why."

Turning back to George and Roger giving them a parting smile, my eyes meeting those of George's. Before I drop them feeling myself starting to blush once more. Turning I head for the house, hoping the good Vet will follow me in my rush to run away.

"Michael O'Connor? Aren't you the new vet assistant? I was planning on coming and visiting with you today. Here lets get that inside and I'll tell ya why."

"Yes, Miss Renolds I am the junior partner at our Dr. Cortland's veterinary practice." Michael noticed Samatha was blushing about something, what? he wondered.

Michael followed Samantha into the house with his box of pies. She was a real beauty, too, he noticed. Things were looking up in the neighborhood for sure.

George

George took hold of Damions reins and led him towards the stables with Roger following.

George brushed Damion and Sheba before stabling them.

"Lets go and see what state the bunk house is in," he suggested to Roger. "After lunch you could start cleaning it up for me if you would, theres so much work to do I'm thankful that you turned up. You've been a ranch hand somewhere so you wont much guidance, he added as he led Roger towards the bunk house.

Moving with George towards the bunk house he nodded in affirmative to the need for work. "Always work to do." He said pleasantly enough but the sentence was so short that it left little room for conversation.

"When was the last time the bunk house was used and how many can it hold?" He queried.

From the amount of people he'd seen it would need to be pretty big. He bought an arm up to his brow wiping away the small beads of sweat that had formed there from the sun that was beating down on them and then looked back at the sky, "And it's a mighty fine day for doing work." He shuddered at the thought of how the weather had been a few days past, the rain and cold had combined in a freak weather pattern to freeze him. Warmth and heat was so much better...maybe it was just a Texas thing.

George

"According to the girls it will hold around twenty, with a seperate room for the foreman," George told him.

When the entered George could see there was a fair amount of work to be done.

"I think that I'll have to get Tim to help you with this unless Miss Katerin has other ideas for him," George said as he surveyed the mess. "Drop your bag anywhere and we'll see about something to eat," he added.

He placed his bag near a bunk and then took off his coat, hanging it on a hook at the back of the door. He was wearing a work shirt beneath and old worn jeans. His eyes roved over the room. "Yes...alot of work...food will provide the incentive." He smiled and turned to George scratching his left arm briefly as he did so. "If this Tim can help fair enough, if not so be it...I have no worries about working by myself."

George was glad to hear this he knew that Roger would probably do a better job on his own.

"Ok, lets head for the kitchen and you can meet everybody else," George said leading the way out of the bunk house.

"I don't know for sure at the moment but there might be three of you sleeping her tonight," he told Roger as the exited the bunk house and walked across the yard to the house.

<gone for a few hours, feel free to have me rp any minor roles such as eating or idle talk - don't feel you have to wait on me>

Try as she might, Anna couldn't get any writing done. She scribbled a few lines but kept scratching out what she wrote. She began regretting not having eaten any of her lunch. With an exasperated sigh, she headed back to the ranch house to raid the fridge.

Maybe she could distract herself with helping out Carolyn with some things around the house until they were ready for her with the horses.

As she turned the corner into the kitchen, she nearly collided with Michael O'Connor.

"Oh--hello" she said with surprise. One step more and she would have walked right into him. Anna felt her cheeks grow warm.

"Hello, Mr. O'Connor. Your directions got me back here in one shot...thank you again."

"Hi Samantha," she smiled.

OOC: Have a great weekend, spark! :)

Carolyn

Carolyn kept refilling plates and dishes making sure there was enough lunch for everyone. She saw new faces and kept note of how many people there'd be for each meal. It was a very friendly group, everyone coming and going, conversations and laughter filled the kitchen. She was quietly going about lunch and saying hello to each person and mentioning if there was ever anything they'd like for meals to let her know and she'd do her best.

Watching everyone made her smile. She felt happy and was looking forward to planning meals for them, her new friends - almost family.

As Michael followed Samantha into the kitchen, he nearly collided with Anna.

"Oh--hello," she said. She seemed a little embarrassed to have almost bumped into him. Michael felt awkward as well, for more than one reason.

"Hello, Mr. O'Connor. Your directions got me back here in one shot...thank you again. Hi Samantha,"
Anna smiled.

"Hello, Mrs. Kent. You're welcome. I wanted to stop by and say hello to the new folks here. Um, I brought some pies." Michael put the tomato box down on the kitchen table and took out two large pies, one blueberry and one cherry.

"I will be heading to Helena for a couple days, but then I'll be back. Will you and Mr. Kent still be here?" he asked.
<PAUSE FOR REPLY>

"Now, Miss Renolds, what I can do for you? You mentioned something about wanting to talk to a vet. Is one of the animals ill?"
--------
<OK, I need to go and won' be back for a couple days. Michael will listen to the answers to his questions. He is totally up for working with any animals and can give an answer to questions about dog or cat availability if you ask - just make it up but remember that coyotes make snacks out of farm cats - don't consider farm cats as long term pets. Michael is interested in making introductions to everyone here - he's a friendly sort so you can play out chit-chat. He's got nothing of a fancy story: grew up on the farm, went off to school, came back a vet and has been working under Dr. Cortland for almost 4 years now. Never married, no kids. See you next week.>

Sam

"Hi Anna," Smiling at the woman before us seeing the interest between the two I step to the side. Giving them plenty of room to talk as I see Mr. O'Connor place the box on the table I scoop it up and take it to Carolyn explaining the kindness that the vet has bestowed upon us. Also letting her know that we would have another two joining us for lunch. Giving her a warm smile before returning to the two at the doorway.

"Now, Miss Renolds, what I can do for you? You mentioned something about wanting to talk to a vet. Is one of the animals ill?" Mr. O'Connor askes me, "Oh no its nothing like that. We are wanting to look into some collies I believe, and wanted to know if you knew of anyone close by that would have a litter or two that we could contact. I was thinking that if we had some dogs here to scare away the coyotes and give warning about anything larger."

Quickly explaining about our ideas about the dogs and cats, Mr. O'Connor sets me to rights about the cats. Deciding that there was no way I wanted them eaten, but the dogs would be a good thing to have around maybe just two. But that they could help with the cattle herding if taught correctly.

Thanking him quietly I move back towards the dishes upon the stove lifting lids smelling the delicious armomas of the cooking food. "Mmm Smells fantastic Carolyn. I think I have some reciepes for you to add to your collect."

My eyes keep drifting to the door and I begin to wonder what could be taking George and Roger so long. Maybe they had decided to clean the bunk house before lunch. Thinking this as I make my way to the table placing silverware and plates around the large table. Needing something to do with my hands instead of worrying about George's where abouts.

George

George enters the kitchen followed by Roger.

"Hi Everybody, this is Roger he's going to help out for a while," George says as he enters introducing Roger to the group.

"That smells wonderful Carolyn," he adds as the smell of cooking fill his nostrils.

He walks over to Sam, "Roger is going to clear out the bunk house, so the hands will probably be able to move in tonight," he tells her with a grin. "I'll wait until we get back before moving, unless you or Katherin have other ideas" he adds with a smile.

Looking around the room he sees a blonde stranger, "Who is that sitting there?" he asks Sam indicating the stranger.

I will be heading to Helena for a couple days, but then I'll be back. Will you and Mr. Kent still be here?" Mr. O'Connor asked.

"Mr. Kent is in New York," Anna answered evenly. "He--I--I decided to stay on here, rather unexpectedly. I'll still be here."

Anna didn't know what to say. She herself was uncertain about the status of their relationship. She was certain John wasn't. For him, it was business as usual.

She tried to keep her voice normal.

"The pies look great," she said, changing the subject. "That was very thoughtful of you. I wish people in New York were so neighborly but you're lucky if they even say hello."

Penny was busy helping Carolyn with lunch, and found a deep satisfaction in helping. Everyone seemed pleased, and Penny took their pleasure to heart, feeling that she had made a difference in people's lives. However small.

Her father, he threw millions at problems. To cheer people up, he bought them expensive paintings ... or bought out ranches seriously in escrow, along with all the livestock, fired everyone, and brought in an all new staff so his daughter could play at being a cowgirl.

She sighed. Damn him! How could he even suggest, even think, of doing that? Penny's happiness fell once more, looking at all these people. Sadness. They were all getting started here, struggling to keep the ranch out of the hands of people like her father. Struggling to remain alive in a way that mattered to them.

She wondered, if it wouldn't be for the best if she left them. She wanted to stay here, offer whatever services she could to Miss Reynolds, and help her keep the ranch from the Vultures, including her father. Room and board. That's what she'd do. She'd offer to stay and work however she was wanted, for only room and board. She didn't need money. Yes, that would be most helpful.

Her mood was improved by the time it came to clean up, and she was once more visibly happy as she helped Carolyn clear the table and wash up the dishes.

George's words "I'll wait until we get back before moving, unless you or Katherin have other ideas" caught me, I hadn't thought about him being so far away from Kat and I. Ok well yeah I was only actually thinking of myself with that one. I liked the idea that he would be just across the corridor from me sleeping. But if he moved out to the bunk house, I knew then I would have no time to get to know him as I wanted to so badly.

"I was thinking that sense you are one of the partners now, we... I mean you would stay here in the house with us." I couldn't actually put a reason as to why I wanted him in the house. Just that I did. I hadn't had the time to examine my feelings for this man or the reactions I had around him. I did know however that I wanted to find out. Looking away from George so he wouldn't see the confusion in my eyes, and maybe even know what I was thinking.

"George as to your earlier comment about wanting to have time to talk. I would like that very much and I am looking forward to riding the fences for the next few days with you. Perhaps we will have the chance to get to know more about each other since as you said we will be working close together from now on."

I had been so interested in asking the good vet about the animals that I hadn't really taken a look about the kitchen. Then George had come in so my attention had gone directly to him, with this I failed to notice the blonde that George sees.

Turning about my eyes land on Kasey, lighting my face with pleasure. Grinning from ear to ear I turn back to George to answer him, "this is Kasey Kershaw, she is the insurance adjuster dealing with Tom's... um with the policy that I was telling Kat about. Kasey this is George our foreman, he has just joined the ranch here like me." Death just stuck in my throat, Tom was actually dead and I was moving on like I should have three years ago. But death just sounded so final in my ears, I didnt want to say it just now.

Stepping forward to clasp hands with the pretty blonde girl I had come to know and appreciate over the last month. It had been her recommendations for me to come home and talk to Kat. Telling me that she could hold down the fort, and when things got settled she would find me. Which from the looks of it she had found me indeed.

"Its good to see you Kasey, your looking good."

Stepping in the house Kat could see Carolyn had her hands full and decided to offer her and penny an extra set of hands. After noon all. Here Carolyn... I'll give you and Penny a hand. She said with a smile. Seeing George, Sam, Josh and a few new people she hadnt met yet, but new she would soon.

George smiled at this, he wasn’t sure why she wanted him in the house rather than the bunk house. He hoped that it was because she wanted him near to her, but she’d turned her face away from him after saying it leaving him confused. Why would she turn away?

George could only grin stupidly at this remark, sure he wanted to get to know her better, but he wanted to get much closer to her as well. So far they’d teased each other a lot, with Sam even going as far as to give him a friendly hug as she’d left earlier in the day. He’d teased in return by blowing kisses at her and been pleased at her reaction to them.

When Sam had seen Kasey after George had pointed her out, she explained to George who she was and introduced Kasey to George, before shaking hands with Kasey. When Sam let go of Kasey’s hand George shook hands with her as well saying.

“Any friend of Sam’s is a friend of mine, it’s good to meet you Kasey,” letting go of Kasey’s hand he stood next to Sam wanting to put his arm around her because he could feel that something had made her feel insecure for a moment, but he resisted the temptation.

Kat it is then Josh replies as he rides slightly behind her once again noticing how her nice her ass looks in her snug jeans after dismounting and helping Kat brush and put the horses away Josh cant help but wonder if "a woman as beautiful as Kat would ever have any interest in a mere ranch hand as himself" as they finish putting the horses away he follows Kat to the house seeing all the new faces he excuses himself to go to the bathroom to clean up before heading to the kitchen for lunch.

I felt George next to me his presence and strength being so solid. I was so very glad to have him there, even as I fought the need to lean against him. Thinking that he might not appreciate it if I were to do this. It wasn’t like George and I were an item, we had been flirting with each other sure. Or at least I had been flirting with George. If I had leaned against him just for but a moment I wasn’t sure I would have what it would take to move away from him.

It wasn’t so much as the extremity of Tom and the ordeal of the last month or even three years for that matter. It was just the nearness of George and the thoughts of Tom, it finally being over. My life for three years was over and now I was able to have a new one. But that alone was scary, what if I messed up once more.. Could I handle another failure?

“Any friend of Sam’s is a friend of mine, it’s good to meet you Kasey.” Looking up at George thankfully for his unspoken support giving him huge smile. The pleasure of his words radianted warmth through me. It was again like he had known that I needed him to be there, and here he was by my side giving me what I needed without saying it.

To, Samantha (and George since he is right there he'd here it), Michael said, "I know you folks are just getting the ranch going again and money might be tight. If it is, I can take a look at your animals on my own time for a while, no charge, except for materials and such. I'm just glad the place is back. Your call, either way."

"Mr. Kent is in New York," Anna answered evenly. "He--I--I decided to stay on here, rather unexpectedly. I'll still be here."
"The pies look great," she said, changing the subject. "That was very thoughtful of you. I wish people in New York were so neighborly but you're lucky if they even say hello."

Uh, oh, there's something going on there. Watch it, man, Michael thought.
"You're all welcome to them. We try to be friendly folk here. Glad you are able to spend some more time here, get a chance to relax I hope." Looking around the surprisingly crowded room, Michael said "Well, folks, I have to move along, but don't be strangers. I'm in town or over at my brother's ranch. Here's my number, just give me a buzz whenever." He dropped his card, with office and cell phone numbers, on the table.

He waved and headed out...making sure his last glance was at Anna.

Logan is a muscular Ex Navy Sailor who is trained in Property and Human protection.
He had received a phone call from a very concerned distant relative of Katherin's saying that they were worried about her on the ranch all by herself and would he stop in and watch over the place for a while?
Hey Cate are you out there?

IC

Logan slung his huge ruck sack over his back and started to scan what he could see of the grounds of the ranch, it wasn't going to be easy to secure such a large place but he would do his best to keep the animals and people from harm.

Walking up the steps of the porch to the ranch house Logan walked in through the door and turned to go into the Kitchen. Surely someone there could help him find a room and it's a great place in the house to just sit with some coffee and watch everyone who comes and goes for a while.
