The Ranch... Open..

wow what a looker she is Josh thinks as he offers her his hand and says ' Howdy ma'am i'm Josh and i hope i dont let you down thanks for the oppurtunity to work for you' Then Josh steps back and observes the others in the room

"Umm, yeah sure. Fancy talking a walk?" Tim stammered slightly. He hoped that he wasn't sounding too much like some brainless dolt, but he was finding it hard to think of much to say. What he really wanted to do right now was some art. Perhaps Penny likes art too...

Ooc:::

At the request of Lady Fairy... here are some pictures to give us some clue as to what the house looks like and some info for us all to play with..

The property itself takes 2 and a half days to ride on horseback, the whole place if I have this figured out right would be close to 5000 square acres. Not sure if I have that right but you get the idea I hope.. *grins* The house has 21 rooms those rooms are as follows...

Kitchen, Sitting Room, Office/Libary, {2} Full baths, Dinning area, Front Entry, Rear Entry, Pantry, Attic.. Plus 11 bedrooms. All nicely furnished as well as large. But remember things would have the older quailty about them since they have been in the family for several years. *grins*

The bunk house can sleep 20 people including the private area for the foreman.

We figured she sold most of the livestock so somewhere around 500 horses, and 1000 head of cattle. Not including chickens and other such livestock.

Hope this helps and if anyone has anymore ideas please just let LadyFairy know and we will add more into it for you.. *smiles* I hope I got this right... *crosses fingers*

"Umm ... that sounds fun. Sure, walk a bit. Talk. Umm ... walk off dinner a bit?"

She smiled pleasantly. An evening walk under the Montana sky did sound pretty nice. And everyone was so friendly, even these people like Tim that she only just met ....

Ooc

Too cool!

That sure does help. :)

But ... no new ideas from me ... never been anywhere like this RL so .... :)

Tim nodded. "Sure. How about we head back out front?" Tim had a good feeling about Penny. She seemed so nice and easy to get along with.

Tim grabbed a couple of glasses of champagne and smiled at Penny as they walked back out to the front porch.

Handing Penny one of the glasses as they moved outside, Tim looked up into the sky, admiring the way the colours of the setting sun bled into the sky. "I've always liked this time of day"

"Um ... well ... OK," Penny said as Tim grabbed two glasses of champagne.

She followed him to the front porch, and smiled as she took one glass.

"Thank you."

"I've always liked this time of day"

Penny nods.

"I agree. It is very nice. Calm. Pleasant. And after a day like today, for me, a feeling of having done good, and deserving a little rest."

She sips, and shivers slightly as the bubbles tickle her nose.

Tim breathed in deeply and smiled before exhaling. "Yeah. It's in that stage when the world is scerene, at peace"

He sipped his champagne

"That, and it fires my artistic talents. The way colours blend into oneannother, yet remain seperate, and how they slowly change as you watch.."

Tim looked down and smiled hesitantly. "Sorry. You must think I'm wierd, or something, taking about the sky like that.."

"You're an artist? Wow. That's cool. I love art. My dad, he has a dozen original ... ummm ... well, he collects fine art."

She shrugs, blushing slightly.

"I always liked the ones that looked pretty, and like ... well, something real. Not just blobs of color."

Tim blinked in supprise. "Really? Wow that's great! Hey, I got a couple of sketches in my bag if you want to see." He put his bag on the ground and, holding his champagne in one hand, unzipped his duffel bag

Anna Kent

Anna grabbed a dish towel and helped Carolyn out with the dishes. The entire experience had a surreal quality about it. She never would have thought she'd end up staying on a ranch in Montana. It was so completely out of character. Or was it?

She wondered what kind of work Katherine would have them do. She knew nothing about keeping up a ranch. But the idea excited her. It was something new and utterly out of the ordinary. She felt as if she were living someone else's life, slipping her feet into another's shoes.

She decided that she'd just have her things sent to her from the hotel. She'd have to pick up some more practical shoes and clothes in the morning.

Anna quietly observed the others. It was a diverse and interesting group. She liked Carolyn's down-to-earth, unfussy warmth. It was refreshing. Dave was intriguing. Quiet. He had a thoughtful, pensive air that made the writer in Anna wonder what he was thinking.

After supper and cleanup, Anna went into the bathroom to tidy her hair. In New York it was almost always up in a French braid or a French twist. She pulled the pony tail out. Her brunette hair was long and straight, falling past her shoulders.

She decided to go outside for a walk. She was curious about the horses and headed toward the stables.

"Oh cool. Sure. So are ... you from around here?"

She stretched, sighing softly. The cool night air was refreshing after the heat of cooking. It was turning into a lovely night....

Tim started to root through his bag, soon pulling out his sketchbook. "Hmm? Oh! Err, no. I'm from Arkansas. Little town called Siloam Springs. It's sweet an' all, but not enough goes on there. That, and I kinda had to sell up"

He opened his sketchbook on one page with a rough sketch of a young cat

Hearing George’s assessment of the two men standing in front of her Kat’s smile reached her eyes as she shook their hand’s and said. “As long as George is willing to give you a chance I will trust his judgment, and the two of you along with Breanna are hired on as ranch hands, and will be under George’s charge as he is the foreman here. You all are welcome to stay in the house tonight as we have plenty of room’s, and tomorrow we can work on cleaning out the bunk house for ya all. Dave is our Furrier so if you have any questions you can talk to the both of them.”

Kat grinned as the one called Tim excused himself and moved to help Penny clear the table and Anna excuse herself to go outside. Kat laughed as Samantha took over helping Carolyn so that Tim and Penny could talk, and shook her head as the two headed outdoors. Looking back over at the one called Josh she said. “If your hungry hun there is plenty hear grab ya a plate and dig right in.”

Looking at George she said. “I am sorry we didn’t wait for you before we ate. When you’re done eating if you don’t mind I’d like to meet with you and Sam in the office so that we can go over the books. There is no hurry hun so take your time eating and I’ll see ya there when your done.” Smiling she turned to Carolyn and Sam and walked over to them picking up another dish towel and begin drying the dishes to put them away so the job would go faster.

“Dinner was wonderful Carolyn I really enjoyed it…. It’s been sometime since i've had someone’s cooking other than my own. The only thing I require is Coffee and lots of it.” She said with a laugh hoping Carolyn would know that she really appreciated what she was doing.

Being cook for a lot of people was a full time job in and of its self and Kat new that. Which was why if the other two women decided to stay, that she would put them in Carolyn’s hands so that she had some help if she needed it, and between Sam’s ridding lesions and the work around the house they should have plenty to do. “Sam when your done here if you could meet me in the office so we can go over the books I would appreciate it.”

Once the clean up was done she went into the office, opening the sliding wood doors she could see the bookshelves that were wall to wall save for where the filing cabinet set behind the desk There was two chair’s placed in front of the desk facing it.

Walking further into the room you could see a fireplace in the room, with two big brown leather chairs and couch they had pillows on them that had the western design print on them. They were facing the fire place and it looked quite comfortable. Not to mention any of the other decoration’s around the room. This had been her father’s domain when he was alive, and she had only come here when she wanted to read or was in trouble, and it was now her office.

Going over to the desk Kat walked around it and opened the filing cabinet she begin pulling out the ledgers and books that she would need to show Sam and George, as well as the paper’s that she had on all the horses for George to go over if he wanted to..

George

George had forgotten how hungry he was, with two new hands to look after. He sat at the table and ate enough to satisfy himself.

"When you're ready Sam we'll go to the office together, remember I don't know my way around yet," he called to Sam when he'd finished eating. "Don't hurry it's nice to sit and relax for a little while," he added smiling.

He suddenly realised he was doing it again, thinking of Sam who was now not only family but his boss as a partner in the ranch. He'd have to be careful or he was going to get himself into real trouble, she wouldn't be interested in him as more than a friend.

Sam

Smiling at George, "sounds good hun let me finish this up and then we can go together." Giving him a wink before turning back to take up another dish drying it quietly.

I knew what Kat wanted to talk about, maybe if it wasn't to late I could talk George into a small walk before bedtime. Although I planned on taking a quick shower before heading in. Tomorrow would be a very early day, and neither of us would really want to be late for it.

"Arkansas? Never been there. Never heard of Siloam Springs either. Sounds like some kind of bottled water."

She chuckles ... and then instantly worries that she has offended him.

"Sell up? OH, what a great sketch! I like it."

She smiles widely.

the younger O'Connor comes to his brother's place

OOC:
Name: Michael O'Connor
Age: 30
Ht: 5'10"
Build: normally muscular, more or less
Hair: under a hat, but dark brown and close cut, clean shaven
Eyes: brown
General appearance: not quite as tan and weathered as a ranch hand, but not a city complexion, either. Looks boyish for his age.
Basic story for the Renolds: Brother of Jay O'Connor and one of the family who lived in the next ranch over. He was going to be a vet when you last had track of him.
--------------------
IC:

A dusty white pickup with a shell on the back drives to the O'Connor ranch entrance. It pauses and a man wearing a blue shirt and a plain straw [cowboy] hat leans out the window and waves at any folks who are out front. From this distance it would be pointless to say anything, but in the dusk you can make out this friendly gesture. After a bit, the truck drives on and is lost from view.

-------
OOC: Just taking my time and warming up. It's my first SRP too.

Ooc:

Welcome to the thread I feel honored that we have two new to srp's coming in and joining us here... *hugs to you both*

Looking back over at the one called Josh she said. “If your hungry hun there is plenty hear grab ya a plate and dig right in.”

"Thanks' Josh replies as he realizes how hungry he really is he grabs plate and fills it with the delicious food watching Kat walk away he cant help but notice the way her jeans fit "nice' he thinks to himself as he finishes his food and carries his empty plate to the kitchen and hands it to the ladies doing the dishes ' That was great my compliments to the chef' then Josh excuses himself to go out onto the porch and watch the sunset as hes out on the porch he sees a man in a truck drive by and wave and he waves back as he sits on the swing and relaxes letting that fine meal settle

Carolyn

When Carolyn noticed Tim helping out she also saw the way he looked at Penny and smiled at her young friend and did a very quick introduction to Tim. Sam arrived so quickly to relieve Penny and before Penny relinquished her towel to Sam, Carolyn gave her a wink. Sam, Anna and Carolyn continued cleaning up and the work was going quickly.

"Your pretty good at all this I am so glad that Kat has you here, exspecial sense I love good food I am almost betting you and I are going to be great friends."

Carolyn almost laughed too loud at Sam's remarks. "Good food always brings people together doesn't it? But please don't forget I have no idea what I'm doing here, this is instinct and of course hunger too." The ladies laughed as they cleaned. Between everyone helping the work was almost done. Kat came over with a few dishes.

“Dinner was wonderful Carolyn I really enjoyed it…. It’s been sometime since i've had someone’s cooking other than my own. The only thing I require is Coffee and lots of it.”

"Thank you Kat. I'll make sure there is plenty of coffee for you Kat. I don't drink the stuff so you'll have to give me a quick lesson tonight. That coffee pot over there looks like a monster that needs taming." She had decided not to mention she was an accountant back home - her old home. Somehow the work she did today was more rewarding. "Kat, I told you I'd do my best and I will. I'll need some supplies and I've started a list. It's over there on the desk if you want to add to it. I hoped to go to town after breakfast tomorrow to pick things up or get them ordered for delivery. Do you have accounts with the vendors or should I set them up? Just let me know how you'd like to deal with payments." Carolyn really enjoyed her day and she looked forward to tomorrow. "Oh and Kat, I'm glad you enjoyed dinner." The two shared a smile and before Carolyn knew it the kitchen was cleaned up.

She was tired. Maybe it was all the work or the excitement of it all. She put on a kettle of hot water and poured herself a cup of tea. She noticed a radio in the corner and turned it on before sitting down at the desk. She added more things to the list and just reviewed the day. Everyone seemed to be scattered about, some in the house and some outside. She took her cup of tea and stepped out onto the back porch.

It was so dark, she realized it didn't get this dark at home - her old home. It was because they were far from town out here. There was a chill in the air and she held her tea cup with both hands. She let out a long yawn and pulled her hair from the ponytail and shook it loose. She sat for a while longer before heading inside. She turned the radio off and dimmed the lights of the kitchen.

She went to her bedroom off the hall, she stood looking at it wondering how she arrived here. So much had changed in these last months, each day she felt better about things. She went into her bathroom, took a quick shower and was asleep in almost before her head hit the pillow. She figured breakfast came very early around here.

Tim beams. "Thanks! It one of the stays who used ta wander on by. I called him Frank. Dunno why, just seemed to fit" He chuckled. "And yeah, it does kinda sound that way"

Tim put his champagne onthe gorund and started flipping through the pages of his sketch pad, holding it so that Penny could see, revealing drawings of various animals, both wild and domestic, as well as the odd landscape. "I don't like this new 'modern art'. I much prefer to draw and paint nature"

"Oh, very nice, Tim. Very nice. I agree with you too about that modern art stuff. I like these. Do you have your paints with you?"

Penny smiled happily. She hadn't ever really expected to be sitting here, in Montana, on a horse ranch, talking to someone she had met only a few minutes before. Ironically, she realized, that the reason she stopped was that out-of-place Ferrari with the New York plates. If it hadn't been for that, she would have driven on through the afternoon, stopped at dusk, and had some water and jerkey for dinner.

Anna reached the stables but she didn't go in. She didn't want to disturb the horses. She leaned forward against the fence, her arms crossed, and watched them from afar. The heels of her boots dug into the grass and dirt and she knew why Prada wasn't the best choice for a ranch.

She made a mental list of the things she'd need to pick up tomorrow: some more jeans, some Timberland boots, and maybe a cardigan or two. Damn, it got cool here in the evening. She shivered. She'd get a couple of composition books to start writing in. She loved those books. They reminded her of those college days at Brown, sitting outside on a fall day with her back against an aging oak tree, the book in her lap, writing until the sky lights faded.

It was getting dark now. She hadn't anticipated just how dark it could get. She started to head back. Anna yawned. Bed would be nice.
