It would be so odd when she passes, she is the only British reigning monarch the vast majority of people have known in their lifetimes.

Charles?

Is Charles going to be King when she passes? I thought the honour would go to William.

Monarchs of the Church can't divorce. Did Charles ever divorce? He's with Camilla.

As far as I know, divorce is no longer a legal impediment to becoming king or queen. Charles divorced and remarried Camilla in a civil ceremony, followed by a C of E service.
However, I think Charles will be forced to make way for William for other reasons - one being his age and another that he's simply not popular enough - but I guess we'll only know for sure the day Liz kicks the bucket, as I don't think she'll go before then.

Personally I don't care much for any of the spoilt and cosseted Windsors and would love to see them go, but that's just me.

<--- I did. Divorce that is. That is how the Church of England started.

Divorce will always be looked down upon by the church. It's not so much a legality, but it is a separate institution.

You could be right about "other reasons" however it probably has less to do with popularity and more to do with the whom the Queen deems worthy.

We shall see.

It is unlikely Charles will be king more than a minute because it's expected he will abdicate to allow William to take the throne.
 
I know there's a sense that a British monarch can't ever abdicate because their figurehead is somehow more significant than the figureheads who abdicate all the time on the continent of Europe. But if there comes a point where she's literally not able to appear in public anymore — and I know she's ceded some of her traditional ceremonial duties — one wonders if she may have a change of heart.

We have the example of The Regency and Queen Victoria who hid herself away for decades. Prince Charles and other members of the Royal Family have been taking over many of the Queen's duties, with her consent and agreement, for years.

Her Majesty the Queen has made it clear frequently that she sees it as her duty to devote her whole life to the service of the people. Although she is limited by her age, she still has a significant workload.

It's still very much frowned upon regardless of the split.
