Dr. Gray was walking down a hall, with a steady stride, examining his notes. He could barely contain his excitement. Only yesterday, the specimen had shown signs of awareness. Even though it was only for a few seconds, it was more than they had expected. It indicated that they were ahead of schedule and would soon have positive results.

If everything worked out, he would be famous. He, Dr. Gray, would be forever known as the hero of mankind. The man who had force jumped human evolution by unlocking the secret to human telekinetics. Approaching a door, he took a breath, and walked inside.

The room wasn't much. It looked like an airport security room than a research station. But it was the most important room in the entire building. Multiple computer, with untold wealth of data scrolling across their screens, were set on several desks. Each one being used by a fellow researcher. Dr. Gray walked over to a woman, "How's the specimen?"

"Not much activity since yesterday. We've been monitoring it, but..." she gestured helplessly.

Dr. Gray smiled as he straight ahead at the two-way mirror. On the other side was a slightly larger, square shaped room, completely bare of any furniture or computers. The white room housed only one thing. A large cylinder tank, full of greenish-red liquid, with a person inside.

Suddenly, the woman spoke up, "Dr. Gray. The specimen's showing full cognitive awareness to it's surroundings."

Dr. Gray stood stunned. "That's... not possible. We haven't administered the-" but he stopped and looked at the tank.

*************

Opening his eyes, the first thing he saw was water. Reddish-green water that surrounded him. His eyes slowly moved back and forth as he examined his surroundings. He was in the tank. The tank that he saw the last time he opened his eyes, before slipping back into the darkness. He was floating in the liquid and there were tubes attached to him.

Instantly he heard a voice, muffled and far off, but he still heard it. "The specimen's showing full cognitive awareness to it's surroundings."

Dr. Gray... Dr. Gray.. he knew that name. He had heard it when he had last opened his eyes. A man in a white suit, smiling at him. Not with a kind smile, but an unnerving one, right before the pains had set in. The pains that he felt since he first came into being. Even though then he couldn't see, he could feel the needles stabbing and blades slicing him as they experimented on him.

Rage boiled within him and he clenched his fist as they shook violently. He felt the force within him and, once it reached it's peak, released it. The glass shattered into a million pieces and water spilled out onto the floor. The tubes instantly disconnected from him, causing him to fall onto the ground.

A siren went off as an electronic voice spoke, "Warning... warning. Specimen-01 has been released. Initiating lockdown." He didn't care, all that mattered was getting out of this place.

He slowly got to his feet and headed for the nearby, double metal doors. As he made his way, the lockdown caused a huge slab of metal to slam close over the doors. He paused for a moment then, with a wave of his hand, the lockdown door was blown open. With a slight smile, he ran down the hall.

The building was in ruins behind him. Fire bellowed from opening in the walls and ceilings. Parts of the building were on the verge of collapsing. It had been difficult, but not challenging. He had, only twice, met a group of armed men who had tried to stop him. They now lay dead, nothing more than crushed corpses. Taking a breath, he looked out at the city in the distance with a smile and a single thought ,Freedom!

With groceries in hand, Bianca was on her way home. It’s was nearing 7 o’cloc and there was snow everywhere. It twinkled in the light of the street lamps and caked her black boots white. She pulled her hood over her dark brown hair and kept her face to her feet, it was too hard to see looking straight forward. The snow all ways hit her brown eyes until she was blinking more than she was seeing. In the distance unusual sounds surrounded her, and a chill caressed her skin. The smell of smoke was what made her look to the streets.

Through the blinding haze of snow, smoke could be just barely seen against the rapidly darkening sky. It looked like a disease, slowly spreading across the building tops.

What has happened? Was her first thought, but she figured it was another house fire. A big house, maybe. It was the only time she had ever seen that much smoke. The sirens were to far away to be decipherable as such. It all seemed so innocent, yet it bother her.

She knew the answer wouldn’t pop out at her, and she had to keep on her way. There was no use standing out her any longer than she had to. There were police and ambulance to take care of things like that. Just before turning her gaze back to the ground the color of flesh entrapped her wandering mind, it seemed to be a person standing, or perhaps leaning against a restaurant she frequented with her older sister. What bothered her the most was the amount of color, the person would have had to been completely naked to give off that that much color. Coming to her senses she released she had been simply standing there, staring off into the distance with all of her thoughts and wasting time just like she had been trying not to do. She had been hungry over an hour ago. To curious to resist, she figured she could cross the street, and see if it was anything. If it was not she would simply continue on her way without embarrassing herself by making a scene. The streets were empty, but she checked any way before lifting her foot high enough to clear the pile that lined the streets from cars pushing it sideways.

With the person only a few feet from her, she could see her suspicions were right. Groceries were forgotten as she rushed to him, oranges and ramen packets sprinkled across the sidewalk. The closer she got, the more was revealed to her. It was a man as she could now tell, and he was covered in circular punctures that still ran blood. The man’s skin was turning maroon from the cold.

“Oh my god.” She whispered, simply watching in confusion as of how to react. Was this the part where she took off her jacket? Or should she call the police? She had just been saying that it was there job to take care of things like this. Slipping her hand over her pocket she found she had left her cell phone at home. Probably on the table to remind her to take it.

“Are you all right?” It was a stupid question, but despite it all she asked.

Stumbling across the street Specimen-01, for that's the only name he heard someone call him, was trying his best to move on, despite the cold. He didn't except it to be cold and quickly he was shivering uncontrollably. The only source of warmth was back at that... place. Just thinking about it caused a chill down his spine that had nothing to do with the cold weather.

He could feel his strength starting to slip away. He was losing blood, but not much to be lethal, just weakening and they'd heal soon. The cold also affected him, but it actually only slowed him down. No, what really affected him was his 'awakening'.

He was like a new born child, his limbs were not use to being used. He was weak of breath, his head hurt and before he knew it, he was pretty much near to falling down.

Then, he heard a voice. He instantly felt fearful, hatred, surprised, and sad. They had found him and he wouldn't have much left to resist them.

He looked up and was surprised to see a female nearby. He was about to use his power to kill her, and he was a second from doing so.... but something stopped him. She seemed to have a caring tone in her voice, something that he never experienced.

His vision blurred and he spoke one word, "Help."

The man’s face was so sad, she felt her heart drop. His eyes brimmed watery and snow was starting to collect on him like…well, for some reason it made her think of a abandoned corpse. Bianca watched a considerable amount of news, perhaps that is why disaster all ways seemed its way to her feet.

“Help.” He spoke softly.

“Oh my god oh my god, oh my god!” Her hands shook, trying to keep herself together and make all the right decisions. The words rushed out of her as she tried to take her jacket off as quickly as she could. She only shook more; her fingers were having a hard time undoing the buttons on her purple winter coat. Stripping it off her body she quickly wrapped it around his shoulders, leaving her with only a dark gray sweater and black jeans. Snow collected on her shoulders and she could feel it start to seep onto her skin through it. The purple coat was to small to button around his shoulders, but she was able to get it buttoned around his hips and neck, leaving a gap for cold air to still touch his chest. Frustrated she took it off him and tied it around his waist to keep his nude body covered and hopefully provide enough warmth until she figured out what else to do.

“What’s your name?” but he didn’t seem to hear her. “Well come with me, I can get help for you.” She said with the idea of calling the police as soon as she could get him into her apartment. Bianca wrapped her arm around his back, using the standard technique of weight distribution to get him from his position. It was less than three blocks away, and she knew the heater was on high since she liked it warm.

“I will take you to my apartment and everything will be okay from there.”

Specimen-01 heard her voice, but it sounded far off, like she was speaking to him underwater. He did catch one part of her sentence, asking what his name was.

His name.... did he have a name? His captors always said Specimen-01, but that didn't seem much like a name. Could he make up one? Was he allowed to?

So many question were confusing him and causing his head to hurt.

With some of his inner strength, Specimen-01 tried to help her by moving his legs. It was tough going, but with his assistance, they would be able to get to their destination a lot faster and quicker then before.

Her question went unanswered, but that didn't trouble her much. Her mind was set on getting them inside her apartment. Than she would try again. Her groceries forgotten she helped him to her apartment not far from were she had found him.

Once inside they took the elevator up three levels to her own door, and let him in.

"Don't move, I am going to grab my lil portable heater and some clothes..." she contuined to talk as she went down the hallway and into her bedroom.

"Maybe some tea, anything warm I can find." with clothes she came up empty, but what blankets she had she let him cover himself. The next thing she lugged out was a faux wood heater with one of the legs broken. I sat crooked on the door next to him and glowed a soft orange inside the black mesh wiring. It seemed to match the house perfectly, with no real theme other than goodwill could discribe it. Tan curtains hung on the windows to dusty brown carpet that pastel blue couches sat on. The dining room table was cherry wood and the chairs were natural oak with grey cushion tied around them.

Bianca came into his view, her long hair wind blow into frizz and her eyes sympathic. "How are you feeling?" she asked. "Ready to tell me your name?"

He looked up at her with a confused look. He could understander her, but wasn't sure how to answer. He had never really talked before, considering he had spent most of his life in containment.

However, he had been created to be superior and therefore had the means to speak, it just wouldn't be easy.

Opening his mouth he replied, "Name...? No name? Never got name except called Experi..." he stopped and looked away, wondering why this person was helping him.

He turned back to face her and smiled, "Thank you for helping. Thought I had escaped only to die from cold."

He looked..confused, and she returned the look equally. How was he confused? It wasn't like he found her naked walking down a snow covered street, so cold that her skin was turning blue and purple.

"Name...? No name? Never got name except called Experi..."

Again he got the face what the fuck face.

"Thank you for helping. Thought I had escaped only to die from cold."

"You're welcome..but what do you mean, escaped?"

The first thing that ran through her head was jail. Just her luck she nabbed up an escaped convict and gave him shelter in her home.

"Escaped from were?" she quickly added, still trying to piece it all together. It would explain why he didn't give her a name, but not the nakedness.

Thinking of that place, bring back the many memories, sent a chill down his spine, "Never knew what it was called. I was created there. Never knew about the outside world."

He looked at the women and asked hesitantly, "You're not going to send me back are you? I have do desire to return to that place. The torture..." His voice broke off after that.

If she reported him to some authority figure, or anyone, about what he was or where he came from, he'd quickly be sent back to that place.

Her what the fuck face, quickly turned a you're scaring me face.

"What do you mean experiments? and tortures? What the hell...you need help, honestly." just sitting next to him was scaring her. For once she couldn't remeber where she had put her smart phone. Normally the thing was attached to her, but of course the first time she didn't have crazy naked people started showing up and she probably crazier than them, let them into her house. Her anxiety spiked, wondering if he was violent or not.

"But don't worry," she quickly added. "Just help to..eh help you."

He shook his head, "You've helped already. As long as they don't find me, I'm fine."

His worry of her getting the authorities was diminishing, he felt like he could trust this person. Another feeling came upon him, one that he hadn't ever felt, something like a longing and caring. It was odd.

"I'm not really sure what it was that I was held at. They.... experimented to improve upon genetics."

Palms to her eyes, she tried desperately to think rationally. She all ways got caught up in moments that made t.v. shows bad. The stupid mistakes were when viewing you would say "No don't open the door!"

well she knew she should be screaming at herself. "He's crazy! Get him out of your house! Save yourself!"

"Well," she commented, rising from the couch. "You can't just stay here, I mean if all this is true you don't live anywhere or have any kind of job and even if you did this is my apartment and I like it how it is. With just me."

"Job?" He asked, looking at her with a confused experssion. He wasn't sure he truly understood what that word meant. "What type of job?"

This was going be be difficult, living a life hiding from his captors. But with this woman's help, determination, and some luck, he knew that things would probably turn out for the better.

"I don't have any special abilities, except for...." He wasn't sure if he should show her his powers, in fear of scaring her, thus causing more problems.
