The Problem with Literotica

It’s unlikely you will hear from people here, since many are in the ‘trusted commenter’ group and have their comments posted instantly.

I’m not, though, and my last comment took almost three days to appear. It was on a Halloween story, too, which you’d expect to take precedence, while the contest is ongoing, over comments on some other random stories.

Before that, it would always be just one day maximum before my comments were posted, usually somewhere around early morning in the US.
I thought if you turned on comment moderation, it was up to the user to review, not Laurel.

Correct. The site reviews Comments for spam content, html links and so on, but I don't think it moderates the actual content on the first pass.

There's been evidence over the years that the site runs a hate speech finder (regularly or irregularly, I don't know) - folk have reported foul comments disappearing. But, that also happens when a member deletes their account or gets banned - their comments disappear - so that might be a site action, but might just have been accounts being deleted. Either way, comments do get removed.

The site has given authors the capability to moderate comments left on their stories, using whatever criteria they choose, and many do so. There used to be a type of victim shaming against authors who did delete comments, although that's largely diminished more recently. Whether that's because more people do curate commentary, or because there's less tolerance for unnecessary scumdom, or more people being more sensitive, I wouldn't have a clue.

At the end of the day, though, Delete is always an option.

Honestly, if this were my site, I'd ABSOLUTELY fast track the stories from authors that I KNEW I could trust and were not bots.

For contests & comps, I would try to fast track those too, with the understanding that anyone who tries to sneak something in that violates site rules, will probably have their account and stories deleted.
It's known, or assumed well known authors, especially those who typically don't violate the TOS and generally have at least passible grammar, punctuation, spelling, consistantly, are fast tracked. And you don't need to be too prolific.

When I made this new pen name, I was prepared to have a week or two wait. But I didn't. I suspect because the first submission met those requirements, I did not not. Also I suspect she and Manu also know I was already a member, probably by IP Address, or something else under the surface. Because there have been trolls fairly swiftly dealt with who were trying to get around being banned.

I was not running down the thread. It is entertaining. Some of the ideas have merit, and if I were the queen of Lit, I'd seriously consider them. Additionally, I would like the discussion to continue.
The thing is; threads like this have been going on for a long time. Nothing really changes. I've been seeing these threads for fifteen years now. We know practically nothing about the both of them, so we don't know how often they do at least lurk around here. Or if they ignore these threads or not. Only the folks who's been here longer, like Lovecraft, really know why Laurel isn't active in the forums anymore, at least a reason or two, given her post count.

Because it seems to take a lot to get her in a thread, same for whoever or whatever AH_Mod is, as well. Because I've seen so much shit talk about her, that I thought the user was gonna get banned. I've seen folks like Lovecraft, Keith, maybe even TxRad go at her with seemingly no restraint, back and fourth, the same way PSG, Cagiviagurl, somebody gets the business. That's usually when she pops up, and in my experience the only times, other than contest/challenge stuff.

Heck, if we merged all the threads discussing posting delays, we could free up an entire server room somewhere.
If we merged all the threads of "this is how they make lit better", "how lit should be", "what I would do if I ran lit", we would need that freed server room.

Which reminds me; apparently discussing where the servers are, is also heracy to Laurel and Manu.

I know the site itself does it. I've never turned on moderation, so I assumed it just sent all comments to a pending section for the user to review. The only thing I ever did was have guest comments turned off on my old account.

The only time I've seen her in a thread was when people were going at each other in quite insulting terms, and that was just to shut the whole thing down.

I recall her popping into a thread perhaps a year ago, maybe nine months, to steer a new poster towards some information they wanted.

Also, it took only three WIWAW threads here in the AH, I think, for Laurel to actively contact the thread starters and propose we turn it into an Author's Challenge. She definitely keeps an eye on things here, or at least she used to.

It was Laurel's idea to create that challenge?

Yup. I like to take credit for WIWAWs, but it was her idea to take it beyond the AH and unleash it story-side.
Huh. I've always thought she accepted all those requests for challenges and events just to indulge the AHers who asked for them, but it seems not. She is quite consistent, I'll give her that.

It aligns with "editor's choice" tags being awarded for stories about technical stuff nowadays. Like she's seen all the stories before, and now it's the meta aspects of writing and publishing that she cares about.

The thread will be locked whenever the thread is locked. Until then, continue with gloves off, and pound away, if that's what anyone wants.

You do know Laurel and AH_MOD aren't the same person, right?
Just asking because AH_MOD will shut down threads, but I've never seen Laurel do it directly.

Yes. I was told at the time that it was Laurel wot done it (or at least issued instructions for it to be done).
