we need to cut off all funding for higher education....period.

Make higher education compete for students and dollars. Problem solved!

Public higher education is a public good. Just like national defense.

I love the effort but seriously, take aim at just about anything else besides education. It would be better to cut ANYTHING other than education. Anything. Please cut anything else.

Higher education could've helped you spell it "nazi" instead of "natzi".

And kept you from having a thread dedicated to how bad your writing is.

just like health care, there is no end in sight to costs rising. Soon, I can see a bachelors degree costing $100,000

Yes. Healthcare is another public good. In the longer term it makes more economic sense to have a mandate that people have care, and to organize ourselves around preventative care rather than costly intervention based surgery.

National Defense. Public education. Healthcare.

Everything else is debatable.

Its good for all the foreign students who use our universities to get useful degrees.

Not so good for our own students who use it as a excuse to get drunk, have orgies, and avoid growing up for four more years.

...National Defense. Public education. Healthcare...

You're wrong on all three.

National Defense = utter waste of money (there's no real enemy anymore), its just a scam to keep the military-industrial complex in business.

Public education = make parents (and adult students) pay. Why should I have to pay for it. I don't have kids, make their parents pay.

Heathcare = its called medical care, and its a tragedy that we've adopted socialized medicine. Part of what made America, America, was that we didn't have that crap. Just very sad that got pushed through.

National defense is far from a waste of time and you don't maintain a military because there is a threat, you maintain one encase one arrives. Ours is far larger than it needs to be but still.

Public education helps us all, that's why we all pay. People are stupid enough with 12 years of free education, the last thing we need are a bunch of illiterate fucks running around.

America's greatness has nothing to do with us not having socialized medicine or any of that anti-commie shit you spout Renard.

Last I knew, student loans were repaid (plus interest). However, the default rate is 13.4% (largely associated with for-profit "universities"). In comparison, the default rate of a common bank loan is around 3.56%. Not all degrees have equal value. But your pay will increase between 10 and 300% accordingly. I wonder if that increased pay is taxed? If so, who benefits? And then take that increased revenue and multiply it out for the working life of the "student". I wonder why the Govt would do such a thing...as make money.

Renard you are a dope.

Hey! That's a great idea!

Make all higher education so unaffordable that only the richest kids can go!

Awesome :D

Education (and healthcare etc) is not a right.

Agreed.

But it is a public good. If my children are educated then they are the engineers, scientists, doctors and business people that will make your standard of living go up.

If they receive vocational training then they will be the plumbers, electricians, builders and mechanics that will build your new home and fix your new car.

It already is...tuition is up massively just since the govt took over student loans. The default rate is skyrocketing as well. The world needs mechanics, plumbers and others that don't require a 4 year degree too. If you actually allowed the free market to work and keep govt out of education, anyone could afford to go. The more govt is involved, the more expensive it gets.

Education (and healthcare etc) is not a right. Anyone can get their own education and pay for it on their own. Taking my money to pay for your kid's education is morally wrong and simple theft by govt.

Tuition has been going up for over 20 years, especially at universities which can set their own tuition with or without government assitance, that's what happens when private interests loosen regulations... I dont know what blog you're getting your information from

the government already takes your money to clothe, feed, and house the military ( and their education, and their spuses, and children)... is that morally wrong and government theft as well?

So pay for it yourself. Public good is more PC bullshit to justify theft by government. There is no moral justification for taking from person A to pay for person B. In a truly free market, anyone could save up and go to college without incurring debt up to their eyeballs. In fact, most would have hardly any debt at all.

and on what planet has an unregulated free market ever worked?

so lets say.. in a totally free market, I would be legally allowed to pay you 50 cents an hour

are you saying that person would have no debt?

Gee, that's not at all what happens when government gets involved with education in socialist countries...

quite the opposite actually.

It sounds like you could benefit from a little more education.

It was paid for by myself. The loan I borrowed was paid back in full plus interest. The Govt now benefits because my graduate degree allows me to make substantially more. They get their share through a concept called taxation. You simply don't want your "taxes" benefiting anyone other than yourself. Grow some fucking balls and say it instead of pretending to mask it behind what is better for the country. Fucking pussy.

I love these " taxes are evil social-ab-bi-ism" folks

fine,,, stop using the roads, the sidewalks, traffic lights and signs, stop turning on your faucets and accessing the public waterworks, if you get robbed dont call the police, if your house catches fire put it out yourself, if your child gets hit by a drunk driver ( just exercising his individual liberty after all) don't call an ambulance either

hope it all works out for you in this utopia

Almost right. I'll keep my money, you keep yours. You have no right to tax me to pay for any of this shit. A little concept called personal responsibility, which rarely shows up anymore. You're so fucking deluded you base your argument on govt taxing you more. Wake the fuck up and get govt out of ALL of our wallets for good.

It's actually humorous watching you liberals and progressives willingly becoming slaves out of some sense of doing public good. Soros, Buffet and all the rest are laughing all the way to the bank at your stupidity. They profit while you slave away to pay those taxes you so dearly love having for all those stupid programs.

Have you ever purchased a house? I wonder who guaranteed that loan? Have you ever purchased a car...did you pay cash or take out a loan? That's all I did. Take a loan. Paid it back. In full. On time. With interest. And for that I got a degree. No difference. Get over it and pick a new topic.
