Inspired by a recent comment made by Homburg in another thread, I present you with the Political Compass Test.

If you must know, the test positions me as a somewhat radical libertarian socialist, along with the likes of Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama:

My political compass
Economic Left/Right: -9.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.69

Sounds about right.

ETA: fuck. just realized I posted this in the wrong place. Anybody know if and how I can move it to the cafe? Catalina? Marquis? From what I hear, you two are the go-to persons for this.
ETA: thanks to whoever moved it!

Yeah, I am out there as a anti-authoritarian leftist.

I'm kinda to the left and down a bit from Mandella and the Dalai Lama ;)

ooh edited to add: I just noticed the same as you db :rose:

I'm so middle of the road :D

Kind of left without the whining?

I love a free market too, if the smaller guy has a shot at working it. Minnows in the shark tank are not "free."

looks like I am much more left then I thought I was.

Economic Left/Right: -6.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.46

This puts me south and left of Gandhi so I don't think I can expect a call from Faux News to be their next on-camera shill.

Netz, I believe in exactly the same kind of free market that you described. And it certainly does not have ready-made protective mechanisms to keep the sharks in control of the tank.

Holy cow, bro, you're like pacifica news left, like tin foil hat left. I like it!

Economic Left/Right: -4.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.31

Not quite as far left or as libertarian as Nelson Mandela, and nowhere near the Dalai Lama.

Economic Left/Right: -2.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.85

I didn't like this test. The way I would like it to be and what actually works are totally different. For instance it said 'It is regrettable that many personal fortunes are made by people who simply manipulate money and contribute nothing to their society. Obviously it's regrettable, but do I think that something should be done about it? No. Quite frankly I vote conservative, because I don't think that the liberal way works. I wish it did, but it doesn't.

Honey, what does work?

I've never seen anything working, really. The seventies were liberal and a giant recession. Now is not liberal and we're staring into the maw of -- a giant recession.

Except maybe Norway, and that was dependent on a homogeneity that is changing anyway.
Functional sounds utopian. "What might suck for most of us less" is about as good as it gets. :)

You said pacifica news! That might make me giggle like a schoolgirl with glee!

Ahem. Bitch face on again. That test kinda sucked. I needed some of the terms to be defined before I could vote.

I inspired something? Weird, but cool.

(And this test was precisely what I was referring to in that post, DB)

Ain't that the truth.

It's actually a pretty damned solid test in many ways. I dislike some of the questions, but the basic meme is solid. The standard single-axis political identification sucks balls. Prior to this test-taking, I was largely a centrist vis a vis the left-right axis. It had no bearing for me. The Authoritarian-Libertarian axis is the one I care about. The market is the market, and I want it free but accept that government can be used to do social good (if only because it helps balance the scales from all the vil it does). But fuck anyone that wants to legislate private conduct. Increased freedom is good.

Here's me:

Economic Left/Right: -3.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.46

I'm a bit surprised, as I am much more Left than the last time I took this. I would hazard a guess that it has something to do with the stark liberalising of my view on sexual issues over the past year or so.

I did this a couple of years ago but did it again...

Economic Left/Right: -6.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.05

(Soooo... hi... I'm the only freaking person who's answered so far that is in positive numbers on the economic left/right scale... )

LOL, it doesn't surprise me though....see, you are unique!! :D

My problem with it is that many questions are phrased in a way that make me disagree with the statement, although I agree with the 'sentiment' behind it.

Like all the questions regarding state control of the market. Yes i think that neo-liberal capitalist free-market sucks, but I don't think that the solution is for the state to 'better' control it. But then, answering that the state shouldn't put some control or restriction on the market would mean that I'm in favor of savage neo-liberalism. So, I have to go with the next best answer.

I used to. I've softened in regards to certain things, and they layer more weight on those. There is a more complex multi-axis test out there that gets really specific. It's good stuff. I'll try to find it, if it still exists.

Yes, I was faced with that too. I guess I prefer the current state of affairs to moving to Cuba but there's GOT to be a better way. The trickle down is a golden shower.

I'll vote for anyone who makes golden shower a focus of their political program.

I always score damned nearly in the middle of both axes.
