So just his preference, really. I'm all about Baroque.I think his problem was with all of the Late Baroque period and its showy, ornamental, pastel influences.

Pretty much so.So just his preference, really. I'm all about Baroque.
I remember an entire class on that painting, most of it discussing the man in the doorway.Diego Velázquez was criticized by his fellow artists for painting scenes of the lives and daily chores of common people. They also criticized him by saying he was just a portrait painter, that he couldn't paint historic scenes well. Just goes to show that you will always have haters, no matter how talented you are! His most famous painting is "Las Meninas".

Another one of his masterpieces is "The Triumph of Bacchus", also known as "The Drunks".

Wasn't that his self portrait? I can't remember off the top of my head. It's been a couple decades since my art class.I remember an entire class on that painting, most of it discussing the man in the doorway.
That's how I remembered it too, but I looked it up, and it's apparently a relative named Velazquez. I prefer thinking it's Diego himself. ;Wasn't that his self portrait? I can't remember off the top of my head. It's been a couple decades since my art class.![]()
Let's keep it that way then. We'll live in our own world. lolThat's how I remembered it too, but I looked it up, and it's apparently a relative named Velazquez. I prefer thinking it's Diego himself. ;
Yes, let's. Our own world is preferable in every sense.Let's keep it that way then. We'll live in our own world. lol

This is just beautiful artwork by French painter Marie-Laure Souq
I love this painting for it’s pure absurdity and it’s title, “Nude on a White Cock” by Marc Chagall.View attachment 2153187
I think "riding a great white cock" would have been better.It’s actually very beautiful, I think. But yes, the title wins![]()
