The paradise Island (open, players need)

I push myself to my feet as I finish sharpening the bit of metal into a blade, testing it I have into the tree next to me, smiling as the blade cuts into the bark revealing the new flesh beneath. I glance around, looking for a branch or young sapling that could be formed into some sort of spear, I'd noticed fish swimming around in the shallows and I was starving.

I hacked the young tree down at the base, sharpening the end to a point. Once I had done that I slip off my boots and began wading into the turquoise blue water, closing my era as the warm water creeps up my skin, refreshing it and hydrating it. I climb up into some rock pools, waiting for fish to return.

I follow Rom around, sort of uselessly, waiting for something that I can actually do to occur to me. I'm not great at....paractical things. I'm good at writing essays about literature. Not a great deal else. A strange thought appears in my mind- thank God I'd had my period just a few days agot wouldn't be much fun to have one here. I dismiss it. Amazing what the mind brings up in times of crisis. I pull my dress up again. It's holding on, just. Like me.

The fire is comforting- most of the light remains, but I can tell that the sun is slowly falling. I'm so glad to have found people before nightfall, I didn't want another night alone, sleepless and afraid.

My hunting trip was successful and I return to my shelter under the tree line with a couple of fish. I gut them and remove their skin before getting a small fire going and roasting them over the flames. Once cooked I take them off the pole, biting into the flesh, the juices running down my chin. The fish tastes so good I let out a groan as I swallow it, sucking my fingers clean.

It's good to have a fire and take a little bit to collect some more fruits for us and sit next to steph at the fire. and hand her a couple of mangos. "So what do you do for a living?"

It was a busy day. I had salvage broken planks, wet clothes, plastic containers, cooking utilities and anything that might be useful. Keeping those things away, under a big palm tree, I begin to spread the canvas among the trees, making myself a nice shelter.

I believe there might not be anyone living on this island and since I had not seen anyone along the beach this morning, I make myself a new home and store away fruits and water. The evening tropical sun soon loose its shine and it begins to rain.

I had a new shelter and plenty of fruits. A small fire to keep any possible wild animals away.

Going over the stack of junk I brought back this morning, I laugh to myself. What am I going to do with this woman's dress? Guess I got to wear them one day if mine worn out.

Adam, 5'8"average built. Once a sailor and been the cook on board for the last 2 years.

I peel the mango with my teeth- easy, as it's perfectly ripe and I'm an experienced mango-eater. It's the sweetest I've ever tasted. At least I have people with me. People who are good fruit-gatherers, and fire-makers, and probably a lot more besides.

I finish one of the mangoes and give Jay a sticky smile. "I don't really do anything for a living, I'm a univeristy student. I'm graduating in a few months." Something occurs to me. "That's.....if we ever get off this place". I shake the dark thought from my head. Stay positive.
"So, what about you? What's your story, Jay? And Rom?"

"Me?, I am a tech support guru, so I have very little experience with living on an apparently deserted island, unless you count watching Gilligan's Island reruns. Still from what I have seen of this place so far it seems pleasant enough. Hopefully ore Gilligan and less 'LOST'."
THis cruise was supposed to be a nice short vacation and chance to soak up some sun. Which it looks like I will be getting plenty of. At least I wont have silly tan lines."

I supress a smile, still avoiding looking at certain areas of his naked body, despite wanting to have a quick peek. "Yeah.... tan lines probably won't be an issue for you! I was hoping for a decent holiday too. But now..... I'd just be happy to..... survive".

Three of us together now. There could be more, somewhere on the island. But night is coming in fast, so I doubt that we will be able to find anyone else today. Another night under the stars. I wish I had a sleeping bag. I'd trade.... well, I don't have much to trade, maybe...... all my hair? Yeah, I'd happily trade all my hair for a goddam sleeping bag. But I'm not about to complain and look like an idiot.

"So, are we making this clearing our.... base? What do you think?"

"I think so.. and there are worse things than a night under the stars" I smile, "Especially with such charming company." I debate asking you to sleep beside me, but worry it would be... misconstrued. "Do you have anywhere you have picked out to sleep?" I take a deep breath and try to make it seem very casual." I have a nice bed of leaves and moss over under that tree. Not exactly egyptian cotton, but probably better than bare damp ground.

I consider this question, my eyes searching the clearing. Rom isn't here, I guess he is still getting firewood. I see some sort of makeshift bed of leaves and moss, sheltered beneath a tree. It looks comfy. But I guess that Jay must have made that.

"Erm, I'll probably just curl up on the ground somewhere. I'm a pretty deep sleeper anyway. And.... I'd hardly describe myself as charming..... but that's very nice of you to say".

"I Can be a gentleman if that is your worry,... If it rains though, you will need some protection from the rain." I smile.."anytime a beautiful lady is present it is a charming situation."

Lissy's throat was burning and her loose hair on the back of her neck was sticking uncomfortably. She gave up walking and flopped down on the sand by the lapping waves, letting the salt water cool her tanned legs. "Come on Lissy. Find water and food." she told herself, rubbing her eyes. The sun was sinking faster than she had wanted so stood up hastily and started crossing the beach towards the darkening forest. Her mind threatened her with images of wild animals, poisonous plants and aggressive natives. "Shut up." she muttered to herself, half wondering if she was going insane. "There might be survivors." she told herself hopefully, peering into the rainforest.

Stepping inside was like stepping in a warm shower in the dark, not something Lissy liked in bare feet with scuttling noises all around her. "Don't be a wimp Lissy." she muttered, pulling a leaf off a branch, checking for bugs before gulping the water droplets off it thirstily. The idea of food was disturbing Lissy. Raw meat didn't sound that good to the rich vegetarian. "Open minded." she reminded herself, thinking of fruit. The idea of poison cane up again, but ignored it, pulling a bunch of small red fruits. She popped one in her mouth and the taste reminded herself a bit of raspberries.

The fire on the beach is roaring away. Hopefully SAR or other survivors might see it. In the morning I'll lay out SOS signals. On my way back to camp I gather the inevitable load of firewood.

It's getting dark as I get back. I drop my load of wood and drink deeply from the stream. I look at the bed of leaves and moss. This is the tropics, that thing will be crawling with critters before long.

ooc: watch Naked and Afraid?

I spot a couple of remaining mangoes. And pounce on them. Christ, never realized how hungry I was. I inhale them. The sweetness really fills the belly.

"Who ever got the mangoes, thanks," I say, "Food, water and fire that's three out of four. We should get a shelter off the ground by a foot or so. This is the tropics. By midnight this jungle will come alive. But that can wait till tomorrow."

I look at Steph. "Feeling better?" I ask.

I drift off after filling my stomach with juicy fish. The small fire I made slowly burning away, a sheen of sweat coats my bare skin as the sun grew hotter as the day went on. I open my eyes and look up at the purplish sky as the sun begins to set. Reaching over I grab the machete I made and hold it close, looking out to sea.

I nod to ROm, you're welcome for the fruits. I know we will have to find some protein eventually, but for the short term there is plenty of fruit to keep us going. And we can work on getting off the ground tomorrow. For tonight it will just have to do.

I smile at Rom, back again, with wood, stuffing down the mangoes. I don't really like the sound of the jungle "coming alive" around midnight.... but I'm with people now, I'm safe.
"I'm okay thanks- I feel almost normal. We were just discussing the sleeping arrangements." I make a vague grand gesture that suggests that the clearing is some sort of luxury hotel. I smile bravely.

I think we will be OK.. I wasn't bothered too much last night, maybe I was just lucky... I will admit the accommodations are lacking somewhat. We will need to have a stern word with the concierge in the morning.

"Glad to hear," I reply to Steph and laugh, "Welcome to the Paradise Island Hotel." "As for sleeping I think I will stay near the fire for tonight," I continue.

I clear an area of ground, big enough for two people, of ground debris close by the fire. Laying on my side I contemplate the fire, our situation and Steph. She's a very attractive young lady. Her light dress clings to her and the broken strap reveals a nice sideboob view. With that view in my mind I fall asleep beside the fire totally exhausted.

i watch steph closely, feeling a little jealous for some reason and go over to the space I had been sleeping make ing a point to show I have room for two as well.

Rom certainly fell asleep quickly. He seems to have adapted to all of this thid pretty impressively. Someone to rely on. Both of these guys are.
I think.... it looks like Jay is showing me that his "bed" has room. It does look pretty comfortable. And I'd rather not sleep on my own again.
"Erm, Jay....?" I say shyly, "Is there room for me there?"

I nod trying not to appear to relieved that you chose me and I lay down and offer my arm as a pillow for you, stretching out my body lit dimly by the dancing firelight

A few hours later, Lissy had vomited several times, leaving a bitter taste in her mouth. She curled up into a feeble foetal curl, closing her eyes. Maybe something would eat her before dehydration kicked in. In the quiet that followed, Lissy could hear the sound of bird calls, frogs croaking and the rustle of bushes as some sort of plant eating animal ate leaves - she could hear it's careful hooves avoiding the twigs. After the animal had moved off, she could hear running water - not waves. Feeling a little more hopeful, she sat up and started dragging her tired feet in that direction. Finally she reached a small brook curling around a clump of trees. Even Lissy could've recognised the fruits on those - bananas! She hesitated for a second, pondering wether to quench her thirst or her rumbing stomach. She went for water and jumped in, pulling her dirty clothes off as she did. She splashed around for a hour before pulling herself out and dressing again. She headed towards the trees and stared up longingly at the fruit before contemplating the climb. Hardly Everest, but not something the Californian girl had ever had to do before. After half an hour of swearing, sweating and scrapes Lissy had picked fifteen bananas and made a water container out of a cleaned out shell of some kind. That in itself made her shudder. She was so not made out for this.

Lissy had staggered back to the beach and sat there for a while, staring at the waves. She finished her banana and threw it down along the beach. As she did, she noticed a dark figure with long hair framed against the darkening bruise coloured sky. Lissy stood up and gathered her few things. Maybe she could join up with this person. She was pretty crap with anything survival related.

After trying to relive my boredom somehow, hacking into the tree in front of me. I'm distracted by a figure stumbling along the beach with a bunch of objects in her arms. She raised her eyebrow and pushed herself to her feet, standing away from her shelter with her machete in her hand.

''Are you okay?'' She called out.

Lissy stopped, staring at the girl. She guessed she might be around her age, maybe younger. She looked a lot better than Lissy - with the remainder of a fire and even a knife or something. "Yeah, I'm fine. You from the ship?"

''Yeah'' Emily called out, moving forward a little, the girl had an american accent and sounded friendly enough. She moved closer until she was a foot away from the girl.

''Come on let me help you'' She took some of the fruit from the girls arms and nodded back to the shelter she had made by the tree's

''I've got some fish if you want something hot?''
